2025 Genesis GV80 First Drive: It's what's inside that counts
Tue, May 14 2024FORT WORTH – The 2025 Genesis GV80 represents the fifth model year for the luxury SUV, and it's getting its first major refresh. Though "major" is very much relative. This year's updates mainly boil down to styling and some feature updates. What was done to the interior in particular has made it better than ever, even class-leading. Most of the rest, however, is the same as it ever was, which is still good, but we wish the mechanical bits had been given the same sort of sprucing up as the surface-level details. The exterior changes are mighty light. The front grille mesh now has double bars to match the lights and fender accents. Those headlights have an array of small LEDs now instead of only a couple LEDs per unit. The front bumper gets a pseudo-skid plate garnish on the lower edge, and the rear bumper loses its exhaust cutouts, leaving vestigial mesh in place at each end, still with the vague shape of the Genesis grille. But the GV80 remains an elegant-looking SUV with its long arcing lines. And if you get up close, you can really appreciate the new, all-metal hood badge with the etched guilloche-style detailing. The 2025 GV80 interior is a much bigger deal. The dash has been significantly revamped with a new 27-inch OLED screen encompassing both the instruments and infotainment. It's silky-smooth and crisp, though the light beige graphics lack contrast and aren't quite as easy to read at a glance as your typical light text and dials on a dark background. We appreciate that Hyundai has kept the redundant infotainment control setup featuring both touchscreen and rotary controller on the center console. The controller itself is new, however, with a more tactile and responsive knob replacing the original, iPod-like disk. Both it and the shifter dial also benefit from "crystal-like" surrounds that are convincing and add both expensive-feeling heft and a bit of nice flash. The touch buttons and display for the climate controls are a bit silly, but they're livable, and the knobs for temperature setting are appreciated. The steering wheel is new, too, with three spokes now instead of two. We'd call it more of a lateral move style-wise, but the interior designer noted that the new design allows for more ergonomic button placement. We're not sure it's that big a difference, but we have no complaints about said wheel buttons. In addition to those crystal-like appointments, Genesis went above and beyond with interior color and materials selections.
Autoblog's Editors' Picks: Our complete list of the best new vehicles
Mon, May 13 2024It's not easy to earn an “EditorsÂ’ Picks” at Autoblog as part of the rating and review process that every new vehicle goes through. Our editors have been at it a long time, which means weÂ’ve driven and reviewed virtually every new car you can go buy on the dealer lot. There are disagreements, of course, and all vehicles have their strengths and weaknesses, but this list features what we think are the best new vehicles chosen by Autoblog editors. We started this formal review process back in 2018, so there's quite of few of them now. So what does it mean to be an EditorsÂ’ Pick? In short, it means itÂ’s a car that we can highly recommend purchasing. There may be one, multiple, or even zero vehicles in any given segment that we give the green light to. What really matters is that itÂ’s a vehicle that weÂ’d tell a friend or family member to go buy if theyÂ’re considering it, because itÂ’s a very good car. The best way to use this list is is with the navigation links below. Click on a segment, and you'll quickly arrive at the top rated pickup truck or SUV, for example. Use the back button to return to these links and search in another segment, like sedans. If youÂ’ve been keeping up with our monthly series of the latest vehicles to earn EditorsÂ’ Pick status, youÂ’re likely going to be familiar with this list already. If not, welcome to the complete list that weÂ’ll be keeping updated as vehicles enter (and others perhaps exit) the good graces of our editorial team. We rate a new car — giving it a numerical score out of 10 — every time thereÂ’s a significant refresh or if it happens to be an all-new model. Any given vehicle may be impressive on a first drive, but we wait until itÂ’s in the hands of our editors to put it through the same type of testing as every other vehicle that rolls through our test fleet before giving it the EditorsÂ’ Pick badge. This ensures consistency and allows more voices to be heard on each individual model. And just so you donÂ’t think weÂ’ve skipped trims or variants of a model, we hand out the EditorsÂ’ Pick based on the overarching model to keep things consistent. So, when you read that the 3 Series is an EditorsÂ’ Pick, yes, that includes the 330i to the M3 and all the variants in between. If thereÂ’s a particular version of that car we vehemently disagree with, we make sure to call that out.
Refreshed 2025 Genesis GV80 priced close to outgoing model
Mon, May 6 2024Announced last November in U.S. spec, Genesis increased the sweetness of its 2025 GV80 SUV with a host of new interior appointments. Inside, the formerly separate digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen have been combined into a single 27-inch OLED display. Ahead of it, a three-spoke steering wheel centered around a tidy, stitched-leather hub replaces the crossbar wheel we have now. To the right, a more unified console design with a waterfall-like trim piece descends from the multimedia buttons and HVAC panel — with knobs for the audio volume and the climate control temperature! — onto a central tunnel boasting a redesigned wireless charging pad. The new pad arrangement leaves the phone more visible than in the current GV80 and makes room for larger cupholders. Second-row passengers can take in the sights through the rear windows or on the rear entertainment screens, each screen a 14.6-inch unit suspended from the front seatbacks. Micro-lens array headlights trickle down from further up the range to be standard equipment here. On the tech side, OTA updates join the menu, as do Type-C USB ports and fingerprint authentication. Front brake calipers are upgraded to four pistons. And new exterior colors include Storr Green and Storr Green Matte, new two-tone hues for the cabin are Smoky Green / Vanilla Beige, Ultramarine Blue / Glacier White, Smoky Green / Earth Brown and Slate Gray / Bordeaux Brown. Powertrains hold over with either a 2.5-liter turbo-four producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 pushing 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. A tweaked structure jumbles the price comparison at the low end. The 2.5T starts at $57,700 after the $1,350 destination fee, and it looks like the base price hasn't changed here. However, it appears Genesis removed some features from the entry-level variant in order to retain the same base price. The 2024 GV80 2.5T Standard came with items like a heated steering wheel and manual shades for the rear windows. In 2025, buyers need to pay another $1,000 to get them on the 2.5T. We've included all trim prices for the model year.
2026 Genesis GV70 gets updated design and 27-inch display
Fri, Apr 26 2024Genesis is giving the GV70, one of its best-selling models, a round of mid-cycle updates for the 2026 model year. The SUV gets subtle exterior design changes largely centered around the front end and additional tech features in the cabin including a huge OLED screen. While the overall silhouette remains the same, several small design details set the updated GV70 apart from the model currently found in showrooms. The most obvious change is the grille, which now features a dual-weave mesh finish with bright accents. Genesis gave the headlights a new-look design, and it fitted the front bumper with a wider air dam as well as a bright piece of trim that mimics a skid plate. More subtle changes are found out back. Look closely, and you'll spot redesigned lights that now incorporate the turn signals. The rear-view camera and the camera that transmits footage to the digital center mirror live under the roof-mounted spoiler for a more streamlined look (and, presumably, better visibility), and the GV70 gains newly-designed 19-inch wheels with a Dark Hyper Silver finish and five split spokes. Buyers in some markets will be able to order a Sport package. It bundles a double-layer grille, bigger front air intakes, a dark-chrome-finished rear diffuser, and 21-inch wheels, among other features. Sport models also gain a flat-bottom steering wheel and orange stitching. The biggest change inside is positioned right in front of the driver. Genesis fused the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system's display into a single, 27-inch OLED screen on the dashboard. It also redesigned the center console: the upper part houses touch-sensitive buttons and a volume knob, while the climate control system buttons get moved down and grouped into a separate touch-sensitive display. Genesis made no mention of mechanical updates; it simply noted that full specifications will be unveiled in the coming weeks. As of this writing, the GV70 comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that's turbocharged to 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Next is a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V6 rated at 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive comes standard with both engines. The updated Genesis GV70 will go on sale in South Korea in May 2024. There's no word on when the order book will open on the American market, but a company spokesperson confirmed to Autoblog that the model will go on sale in the United States for the 2026 model year.
Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept comes in hot at Beijing Auto Show
Thu, Apr 25 2024The Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept just sprang to life at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, and it’s quite the sport sedan. DonÂ’t confuse it for the G80 Magma that was only just revealed at the NY Auto Show – that oneÂ’s gas-powered and an actual production car sold in the Middle East. This new Magma is electric and purely a concept for the time being. All that said, this Magma Concept looks pretty production-ready to us. It mimics its gas-powered twin in many ways aesthetically, but still finds way to stand out. Of course, its Acme Blue paint is totally new and a color chose specifically for its reveal location in China. Genesis says it was inspired by extra-hot blue flames, symbolizing “the dedication to ChinaÂ’s continuous progress and advancement while also signifying the ever-evolving nature of the brandÂ’s Magma program.” The blue paint is fitting alongside all the other appearance enhancements. It has a much more aggressive front grille, wider fenders both in front and rear, big 21-inch wheels (with staggered, wider rear tires), a lower ride height, big lip spoiler, rear diffuser and a bumper-integrated fog lamp meant to remind of race cars. As far as added performance goes, Genesis says this G80 EV Magma Concept is equipped with a suspension tuned for “elevated road-holding and cornering potential.” It also has larger, ventilated brakes and lightweight wheels designed to direct airflow to the brakes. Unfortunately, Genesis doesnÂ’t provide any details on the powertrain, so we presume it hasnÂ’t been drastically fettled with for this concept. There arenÂ’t any photos of the interior, but Genesis says itÂ’s used Alcantara, quilted leather and carbon fiber aplenty. Said carbon fiber features a blue weave to match the bright exterior, too. Genesis Electrified G80 long-wheelbase View 7 Photos Beyond the concept, Genesis showed off a long-wheelbase, updated version of its Electrified G80 (seen in the gallery above). It too is finished in a unique blue paint named “Vision Blue” that will be exclusive to the Chinese market. Its interior is just as blue as the outside with epic, quilted blue leather everywhere you look. The wheelbase stretch (by 5.1 inches) gives the car a profile closer to the G90 than the G80 Electrified itÂ’s based on. It also has a revised front fascia, dish-style 19-inch wheels, and of course, reclining VIP seats in the rear among many other refinements and luxurious add-ons.
Genesis reveals updated 2024 lineup and pricing
Mon, Apr 8 2024At last, Genesis is ready with its changes to the 2024 lineup. You'll find the familiar mix of product edits for a year with no generational changes or big facelifts, from disappearing base trims to a touch of additional equipment. The only common trait is that every 2024 Genesis picks up wi-fi hotspot capability. Leaving out the heavily revised 2024 G70 that debuted in December and that we drove in February, we'll start with the least expensive and work our way up:  GV60 The deets on this one emerged last October, the only thing that's changed by the slimmest bit is pricing, thanks to a destination price $135 higher, now $1,330. The GV60 gets an entry Standard RWD trim, with battery capacity shaved to 77 kWh instead of the 77.4-kWh pack in the Advanced and Performance all-wheel-drive trims. A single motor on the rear axle makes 255 horsepower, standard wheel size is down an inch to 19 inches. Estimated range for the rear-driver stands at 294 miles, which is 46 miles more than the GV60 Advanced AWD on 20-inch wheels. All GV60s get more standard equipment in 2024. In the safety column, more airbags take the airbag total to 10, there's a seatbelt pretensioner, a load limiter, and a rear seatbelt reminder. In the convenience column, all trims get Highway Driving Assist 2 and Digital Key 2. The Performance trim spiffs up with Genesis' Virtual Gear Shift included in the price. GV60 Standard RWD: $53,330 GV60 Advanced AWD: $61,880 GV60 Performance AWD: $70,880  Genesis G80 All trims welcome Advanced Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Highway Driving Assist 2 as standard equipment. Exterior colors Siberian Ice, Valencia Gold, and Verbier Matte White depart, with Bond Silver Matte joining the color palette. All base, rear-wheel-drive versions of the 2.5T — Base, Advanced, Sport Prestige — have bought the farm. That leaves the 2.T AWD to occupy the lowest rung on the MSRP chart, bringing a $4,400 price rise with it compared to the 2.5T RWD. On the 3.5T, the base Sport package is no longer available, most of its features rolled into a new $2,950 Sport Advanced package. At the time of writing, Genesis' retail site still shows the base and Advanced packages with overlapping features, so we're not clear on what's changed. It appears Genesis has removed some features on the entry trim and lowered the price; last year's base 3.5T Sport cost $66,875 after destination, this year that's $65,500.

2024 New York International Auto Show Editors' Top 5 Picks
Fri, Mar 29 2024The New York Auto Show, like many other shows over the past few years, has shrunk. But it's still playing host to some interesting reveals, and we even got a few surprises this year. It was dominated by Nissan and Hyundai Motor Group products, but ones running the gamut from affordable cars to flagship SUVs. It was a strange situation of being both quite diverse in reveals, and not at all, depending on how you looked at it. Our favorites of the show are a clear representation of that. And another interesting observation, only one of the picks was significantly electrified. Scroll down to see the best reveals of the New York Auto Show,. 2025 Nissan Kicks View 10 Photos 5. Nissan Kicks "The Nissan Kicks has gone from a reasonably attractive and small crossover into something way more funky with cool textures, color combinations and some actual presence. Plus, it's more spacious, more powerful and has available all-wheel drive. If Nissan can keep the price nice and low to compete with similarly stylish and well-executed competition like the Chevy Trax, the company's got a real winner on its hands." – News Editor Joel Stocksdale InfinitiQX80-Z63-051 View 39 Photos 4. Infiniti QX80 "The QX80 wasn't technically shown at the New York Auto Show, but it was revealed just a week prior at Hudson Yards – accross the street, in other words. Frankly, I wasn't blown away by the initial photos, but I think it looks great in person. The attention to detail both outside and in seem appropriate for an SUV that Infiniti hopes to sell for six figures loaded up. I'm a believer." – Associate Editor Byron Hurd 2025 Kia K4 Live View 7 Photos 3. Kia K4 Sedan "The Kia K4 interior has way more style than anything in the compact car price range has any business having. Now, if we don't get the green interior option shown in the initial global reveal photos, I'm retracting several of my points here. Otherwise, wowza. I kept looking and looking at that K4 interior photo, and finding new, interesting details to admire. Oh, and the exterior is pretty cool, too, though I do prefer the hatchback in that regard." – Senior Editor, West Coast, James Riswick Genesis GV60 Magma Concept View 10 Photos 2. Genesis GV60 Magma "I am psyched to see Genesis show off a proper performance car. The “Sport” trims on its various models are sort of neat, but the Magma brand looks like the real deal.
2024 New York International Auto Show not-so-mega photo gallery
Fri, Mar 29 2024The 2024 New York Auto Show press preview is in the bag and the public show has begun, and that means only one thing: Our work here is done. But really, we've been done since about mid-morning on Wednesday. As you'll see from the paltry selection of galleries below, the 2024 New York Auto Show wasn't much of one. And what there was? Well, in a word, it was Hyundai. As you scroll through the galleries below, you'll note that we have items from essentially two global conglomerates. In one corner, there's Hyundai, Genesis and Kia. In the other, we have Nissan and Infiniti. But that's being a bit generous to Nissan and its luxury subsidiary, because while this is the first chance we really had to see the Nissan Kicks and Infiniti QX80 in person (and that's not even entirely true of the latter), they weren't actually revealed at the show. New York has never been America's biggest "international" auto show, but it has been the venue for some big unveilings. In 2012, the new SRT Viper debuted to great fanfare at NYIAS; the Lincoln Aviator made a big splash in 2018; how about the Alfa Romeo 4C in 2014? And those are just cherry-picking from the past decade. By comparison, the 2024 show feels a bit uninspired. Yes, we would have liked to have seen some Vipers. Sue us. But we'll stop dwelling on what we can't resurrect. There's plenty to see at the show this year if you're planning to go in person, so don't let our negativity deter you. Genesis Neolun concept's New York Auto Show reveal previews a flagship SUV
Tue, Mar 26 2024NEW YORK – One of the last holes in the Genesis lineup has been a large SUV, likely with three rows of seating, but it seems it won't be a hole for long. Among a number of Genesis debuts at the New York Auto Show is the Neolun concept. It's a large, flagship luxury SUV, and it previews both a production model, as well as offering hints at where Genesis design is headed. The exterior is very simple, consisting of an upright, two-box SUV shape and clean panels. The only real detailing comes in the gently curved corners, large wheels, the two-tone paint scheme and the signature dual lighting. The latter of which clearly takes after the multiple Genesis X concepts with the suggested grille shape. Luc Donkerwolke, the Genesis chief creative officer, said the design takes after moon-shaped jars made in Korea. The Neolun also features rear coach doors, similar to those on the Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition. And Genesis notes that this might be a feature that actually makes it to production. Opening those doors reveals a far more exciting interior. The whole thing is covered in purple cashmere and leather, with the seats getting diamond stitching in some spots, and the door panels appear to have button tufting. The dashboard features a rather enormous flexible screen that can unroll to different heights depending on the need (say, low for instruments, or high for stationary video viewing). The front seats can swivel to face the rear to create a little lounge, one that features real wood flooring. An elaborate sound system is featured, and one of the tweeters swivels into view from the back of a crystal sphere on the dash. And for heating, there are radiant panels on almost every hard surface of the interior. This apparently is a nod to Korean "ondol" floor heating that dates back thousands of years. But we're curious if it might also be a more efficient way of heating the cabin than by heating air, which would be a big benefit in an EV, which this SUV could potentially be. Oddly, there only seems to be two rows of seats, but we would expect a production model to have at least the option of a third row. Genesis wouldn't say when we'll see a production version of the Neolun, but they said that they have a flagship SUV like it in development. They also noted that Genesis rarely shows concepts without some idea of having it apply to production models.
