ENGINE

The car now has a #3698630 400 "B" big block bored .030.  Other goodies are a Mellings high pressure oil pump, forged flat top pistons, molly file fit rings, a 1970 383 forged steel crank #2206159 and a matching set of forged rods, complete rotating assembly balanced.  The heads are a pair of #2843906 70 model cut for 2.25-1.88 valves, bench flowed, and have extensive porting & polishing.  The cam is a Mopar Performance Hydraulic Purple shaft, duration 248/248 at .50 and lift is .509/.509 w/108 centerline.  It is degreed in block and runs true roller timing set.  Exhaust manifolds are special high performance 1970 440 magnum port matched, custom cut & fitted for the "A" body big block swap.  2.5 inch pipe to 40 series chamber Flowmasters take care of the spent gasses.  The intake is an Edelbrock Performer RPM with an 850 cfm Holleydouble pumper.  Fuel is supplied by a Holley Blue from a 15 gal fuel cell.  Electronics are MSD. Cooling is from a 4 core downflow original factory style radiator.  This car runs 190 degrees always and NO MORE.

TRANS

The clutch pedal is still in the car as is the original 4 speed hump but it now has a fresh 727 Torque-flite with Blue Line clutches and band.  It is topped off with a Trans-go kit, B&M SFI flexplate, and a B&M 2500 Hole Shot converter.  This tranny was built to handle over 800 ft lbs of torque and works beautifully in this application.  It definitely shifts firm but not hard enough to break things and is very streetable.

REAR END

Is a 66 Belvedere 8 3/4 Sure Grip posi with 3:90gears and Moser axles.

OTHER

Car still has frame connectors and working line lock from it's racing days.  The fuel cell could be removed and a stock fuel tank reinstalled if you wish.

Car has new front & rear tires.  The front tires are speed-rated.

Has CUDA traction bars on it.

2.5 inch electric cutouts.

Interior is in good shape.  The driver's seat shows a little wear.

Paint is nice.  Has a few gravel nicks, but those are minor.

Temperature gauge does not work.

Pinion seal needs to be replaced.

2015 Dodge Charger priced from $27,995, Hellcat from $63,995*

Sun, 19 Oct 2014

Ladies and gentlemen, let's get the most salient bit of information out of the way right off the bat: $63,995*. That's the amount of money Dodge dealers will be asking for (at the very least, naturally) for a 2015 Charger Hellcat (*plus $995 for destination on all pricing figures). That rather reasonable sum will bring home its buyer a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine boasting a supercharger to post such gaudy figures as 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, leading to a top speed of 204 miles per hour to go along with an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 11.0 seconds.
With that out of the way, the rest of the 2015 Dodge Charger pricing information breaks down as follows: $27,995 will deliver a sedan with a 292-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Moving up one step of the ladder nets the buyer an SXT model with the same engine, but a nicer chunk of technology and optional equipment for a $2,000 premium. All-wheel drive adds another $3,000. Hemi V8-powered R/T models now boast an eight-speed transmission bolted to the same well-loved 370-horsepower engine as before, for a base price of $32,995.
The SRT 392 model that had hitherto been the top-performing Charger brings with it an asking price of $47,385 while bargain hunters can equip a Charger R/T Scat Pack machine with that same 485-horsepower 6.4-liter Hemi, albeit with somewhat less posh interior bits and pieces, the removal of the 392's adjustable suspension and hi-po wheel and tire package for $39,995.

Why the Charger Hellcat can't be ordered with a manual transmission

Sun, 16 Nov 2014

Fans of truly irreverent amounts of horsepower will find lots to love in the form of the 2015 Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat models. Both of them send 707 ridiculous horsepower to the rear wheels; the only question is whether you want your absurdity delivered with two or four doors. Oh, and whether or not you want the option of a manual transmission.
If you prefer rowing your own gears, the choice is made for you; there is no manual gearbox option available on the Charger Hellcat, or any Charger model at all, for that matter. Wonder why? Well, besides the fact that almost nobody - sorry, clutch fans, but it's true - would choose to buy a Charger with a manual transmission, that is? The answer, according to an industry insider in a post written on Jalopnik's Opposite Lock forum, is the floorpan.
It's probably not a surprise to most of our readers that the Dodge Challenger and Charger share a large portion of their chassis structure, which is codenamed LX at Chrysler, but there are still some significant differences under the skin due to the shorter wheelbase and two-door coupe bodyshell of the Challenger, as opposed to the sedan shape of the Charger. One of the differences is the floorpan, the huge chunk of sheetmetal that makes up the floor of the car and props up such essential items as the car's seats.

Chrysler extending production of current Dodge Avenger, Jeep Wrangler, Grand Caravan

Wed, 24 Jul 2013

Are you hesitant to pull the trigger on a brand new Dodge Avenger in hopes that a new one will be coming? Well, don't hold your breath. According to The Detroit News, Chrysler will be extending production of the current Avenger sedan through the end of 2015.
Originally, we heard that the company would kill the Avenger to better focus its midsize sedan efforts on the Chrysler 200 replacement. But then new reports stated there would indeed be an Avenger successor, and that we could see it as early as next January. This Detroit News report cites supplier sources confirming the extension of Avenger production, though Chrysler has not released an official statement on the matter.
These same suppliers say that the current Jeep Wrangler will live on through mid-2018 - that's right, another five years. The Detroit News reports that a replacement for the iconic, go-anywhere Jeep was due in mid-2016.
