This vehicle is a real gem. It is in excellent mechanical condition with no service needed. It has a current State of Virginia vehicle safety inspection sticker (passed). The exterior is in great shape with only a couple minor surface imperfections as would be expected. There is a dime-sized stone chip in the center of the windshield, out of the main field of vision, that has been repaired by an authorized auto glass repair center (receipt available) and guaranteed not to spread. One fog lamp has a slight crack in the lens but is still fully operational. The interior is also in wonderful condition with no rips, tears, or burns. The carpets look nearly new. No pet or smoke odors. No leaks on the manifold or exhaust system. The undercarriage is clean with no rust. Two owners. 2nd owner purchased vehicle from Toyota dealership in Georgia in 2010. Power windows, locks and side mirrors all work perfectly. The car averages about 46 mpg. It comes with a transferable 100,000 mile Toyota Certified Platinum mechanical failure service contract with $0 deductible ($40 fee to transfer, buyer pays). It has all-weather floor mats (you get the original floor mats too) and it also has 4 new matching Goodyear tires replaced at 72,863 miles (60K mile treadwear warranty; receipt available). It has a homelink garage/gate opener integrated. You can even set speed dial numbers to call from the car's touch-display. The really cool keyless entry system (RFID fob) will open the door when you get close and also prevents lockouts! It has power locks, windows, airbags, etc. - all the standard jazz. It is a 4 door hatchback so it has TONS of room. This is a great, great car.

How Charlotte lost to Plano without even knowing it was dealing with Toyota

Thu, 08 May 2014

With Toyota set to relocate its North American headquarters to the Dallas, TX suburb of Plano following a top-secret, 100-city search, the cities that missed out can now begin asking themselves what happened during a process they apparently knew little about.
That's a particularly brutal task for Charlotte, which, according to North Carolina's Secretary of Commerce, Sharon Decker, finished second to Plano. While Toyota has been fairly open about what it was looking for in a new headquarters city - direct flights to Japan, proximity to its US production facilities, a lower cost of living, high-quality educational facilities and finding a neutral site suitable to the California, Kentucky and New York-based employees that would be relocated - it's been less open about how the finalist cities, which also included Atlanta and Denver, stacked up against each other.
The Charlotte Observer has a few ideas. Part of the problem is the distinct lack of direct flights between Charlotte and Asia. US Airways, which operates a hub at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, doesn't fly to Asia.

Toyota launches new Pixis Epoch kei car in Japan

Sat, 12 May 2012

Kei cars may be small in size, but they're big business in Japan. The latest arrival to the category is the little hatch you see above, the Toyota Pixis Epoch.
It's the fourth vehicle produced by the Daihatsu division but sold under the Toyota brand. As with other keis, power comes from a 660cc engine. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission driving either just the front wheels or all four. In both configurations, the Pixis Epoch features a stop-start system that helps its emissions and fuel efficiency figures come in well below even the Japanese government's stringent standards.
The whole package measures just 3,395 mm (133 inches) long, 1,475 mm (58 inches) wide and 1,500 mm (59 inches) tall, but offers a relatively spacious and utile interior, plus a tight turning radius of just 4.4 meters. Pricing ranges from 795,000 to 1.2 million yen - that's less than $10,000 (and no more than $15k). Further details in the press release after the jump.

2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

People, us included, make a big stink about the importance of family sedans. There's no doubt they're critical - they represent a huge slice of the market's annual sales and profits. However, despite accounting for far fewer transactions than the midsize sedan segment, the fullsize sedan is getting attention from manufacturers now that our market's entire lineup of those (slightly) smaller four-doors has turned over in the last two years or so. As most of the fullsize segment's mainstays derive a fair bit of their platform and powertrain technologies from their midsize cousins, these larger four-doors offer the potential for fatter profit margins, too. And with the newly stylish duds found on many of the industry's most successful midsize sedans, it's only right that automakers no longer think about fullsizers as big, squishy, vanilla family haulers with flat seats, vague steering and a thin layer of 'luxury' in the form of faux wood trim.
As manufacturers have again started diving into large sedans feet-first, the cars themselves have become sharper. The interiors are now of a higher quality and loaded with tech, while the exteriors have become further extensions of each manufacturer's design language. There's perhaps no greater example of this than the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus, two models that evolved from subpar offerings into market leaders. This segment-wide transformation happened quite quickly, whether because of coincidental timing or because manufacturers are trying to get more out of their big cars, recognizing they account for a small portion of overall sales (just 3.5 percent of the new-car market in the first half of 2013).
The 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is one such vehicle. We remarked on the changes to the V6 variant last year, and while we previously had a quick steer of the gas-electric hybrid, we figured the new model was worth a closer week-long look.
