Not A Happy Customer

About a year and a half ago Jiffy Lube referred me to Mel Ken motors to replace my oil pan since they had stripped my oil plug. All went well until, while on vacation, I put my truck in 4 wheel drive for the first time since it was in the shop. The front drive line came unbolted (two bolts were missing?) and took out my power steering lines and also made large gashes in the engine. Mel Ken did the right thing and fi... view morexed the power steering as it was a result of their fixing my oil pan. I felt bad and offered to have them do a tune up on my truck at the same time so it wasn`t a complete loss to them. Now it has been over a year and I had a Toyota mechanic friend of mine do a tune up on my truck. The things he found disturbed me to NO END. The nickle plated spark plugs they billed me for were regular old spark plugs. They replaced the spark plug wires for no reason. The power steering belt was loose. The power steering lines that were replaced are very clearly one old and one new. They also put automatic transmission fluid in my manual truck. We also found that since we changed the front differential fluid a month ago, it started leaking. We investigated and found the hose for the front differential not connected. You can tell by looking at it that when they did the oil pan, they bent the back part of the hose and when it came time to put back in, it would not fit because it was tweaked. It was just left hanging there leaking all over under my truck.

I was supposed to have had a rental car and they forgot so I drove their shop truck, which was OK at the time but shows that they were not prepared. This is a small business and really gave me the feeling that they did good work and could be trusted even with the problems we had. Given what the Toyota mechanic has found though I will not be back.
