Reviews:

they were soooo nice!
I had been taking my car over the hill since the local dealer closed. I heard about these guys and decided to risk it since its so convienient. They were completely professional, gave me a estimate, were really helpfull in explaining some things that were going on with the car, and even washed my car! I will be definately using them from now on.

Best mechanics and service in Santa Cruz
I`m proud to say I have been a Specialized Customer for about 9 years now. I bought my last 3 cars through them (they are not a dealership, but sell used cars in SUPERB shape) and have taken my cars only to them for service. They are honest and reputable and their service technicians are top notch. I would not take my car anywhere else on this side of the hill. Specialized is simply the best.

The best ever
I used to have to take my Volvo to the dealer, but they went out of business. Now I know why. The guys at Specialized Auto are not only more knowledgeable, they actually care, communicate, and deliver customer service. What a concept! I wish all local business experiences could be this good.

Rebutle
This is a note to just clarify mishans issues. The vehicle had been in an accident and was deemed salvaged. The DMV requires that the vehicles brakes and lights be inspected and have to work just like they did when it came off the assembly line. Some lights were out on the car and he had a brakeline that was seeping brake fluid. These things needed to be repaired before we could pass it. He bought the JDM lights and ... view moreinstalled them. Just like he said they are lights for vehicles in JAPAN. They are not the proper lights for america. There is a reason they went through the trouble to redesign the headlight for america. He did not understand and sometimes I don`t understand some of the laws but I have to abbied by them. Sorry misha for the trouble.

Cheerful service
I don`t understand the review that dings Specialized, whom we have just started using as our only auto shop. They`re not a dealership of any kind. California doesn`t even have safety (brake/lamp) inspections for cars! How could they refuse to certify the car`s headlights and brakes, when no such program exists in this state? I suspect that this reviewer is complaining about some other outfit in some other state. ... view more

We`ve found the Santa Cruz-area Specialized Auto folks to be organized, timely, and cheerful. I love the fact that if they run out of loaner cars, you can rent one right across the street for just $30 a day. So far, all the work that we`ve had done was cheaper than what we used to pay at the (now closed) dealer. Nothing that they`ve fixed has caused us any problems again. We`ve had no problems with them.

So Relieved!
After the Volvo dealer closed I was very worried that I was going to have to start taking my S60 over the hill for service. I was recommended to Specialized and I had a great experience! the service guy(Matt) was very friendly, knew what my car needed, give me a great explanation of some of an issue that was developing(but didnt need to be fixed yet). They washed my car and generally treated me very well. Im so h... view moreappy to have found them. I only wish I would have known abouth them sooner.

Waste of Time
To start off, I`ve dealt with quite a lot of different mechanics and service folk and I also happen to be a hobbyist mechanic in my free time. This is the first time I`ve honestly had to write such a bad review.

I scheduled a brake&lamp inspection appt with them days in advance and they had my car for 8 whole hours before they finally told me I needed to put in a couple of bulbs and tighten a brake line (they ... view moreclaimed I needed to replace it).

The 2nd time I had everything fixed but they claimed my side marker lights were not supposed to be on at the same time as my parking lights and that my brake line was still leaky. They were wrong on both counts. On this occasion they also took a whole day to tell me this.. On both these occasions I had to take a vacation day to deal with them.

I ended up getting some JDM (stock factory part used in Japanese models) headlights and before I came in for my third inspection (the good is that they reinspected free) I inquired if they would somehow find something wrong with this.. After talking it over with their inspector, they claimed it would fail because they would check my wiring (this has nothing to do with the inspection, but I guess they really wanted me to fail). The service representative was even honest with me that this made no sense..

So I ended up going to another shop (a small one at a gas station no less) which inspected my car, found no faults, and passed it within 4 hours, even though the mechanic claimed he was really busy that day and might not get around to it.

Overall, I find that these guys waste a lot of time, aren`t very good in the communication department, and sometimes don`t know what they`re talking about. There are much better shops out there that also have better deals. This is a dealership shop which means they rip people off.
