HERE IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE AN UNTOUCHED 1964 MASERATI QUATTROPORTE SERIES 1 . HERE IS A BIT OF HISTORY ON THE CAR: IT WAS FIRST SOLD IN ITALY, WHERE IT STAYED FOR A FEW YEARS, BEFORE THE OWNER MOVED TO THE U.S. THE CAR WAS SHIPPED TO THE STATES WHERE IT HAS SPENT THE REMAINDER OF ITS LIFE---UNTIL TWO YEARS AGO, WHEN I PURCHASED IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER.
I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH THE INTENTION OF RESTORING IT. SINCE THEN, I HAVE REBUILT THE FRONT AND REAR CALIPERS, BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, FLUSHED ALL OF THE GAS TANKS, AND INSTALLED NEW FUEL LINES. THE ORIGINAL 10" CLUTCH WAS SEIZED SO I PULLED THE TRANSMISSION AND CONVERTED THE UNOBTAINABLE ORIGINAL CLUTCH TO A MORE DEPENDABLE AND AVAILABLE 9.5" FERRARI DAYTONA BORG AND BECK CLUTCH KIT.
I RECENTLY PERFORMED A COMPRESSION TEST ON THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND ALL 8 CYLINDERS WERE WITHIN 5% OF EACH OTHER, WITH COMPRESSION AT AROUND 170PSI. THE ENGINE STARTS RIGHT UP AND SOUNDS VERY HEALTHY, HOWEVER, I WOULD RECOMMEND RECONDITIONING THE ENGINE WITH ALL NEW GASKETS,SEALS, AND BEARINGS SINCE THE ENGINE IS 50 YEARS OLD.
THIS IS A VERY EARLY CAR, EQUIPPED WITH THE DE-DION REAR END, INBOARD DISC BRAKES AND THE EARLY S5-325 ZF TRANSMISSION AS FOUND ON THE GHIBLI OR ASTON DB5. THIS TRANSMISSION IS FAR MORE RELIABLE COMPARED TO THE LATER S5-20 ZF.
ALSO, NOTICE THE SINGLE CIBIE HEADLIGHT SETUP WHICH IS A FAR MORE ATTRACTIVE DESIGN.
THE EARLY QUATTROPORTE HAD A BETTER SUB-FRAME ASSEMBLY THAN THE LATER CARS. THE SUB-FRAME EXTENDS PAST THE FIREWALL, ALL THE WAY TO THE CENTER SECTION ON THE CAR, UNLIKE THE LATER CARS WHERE THE SUB-FRAME WOULD END NEAR THE FIRE WALL PROVIDING GREATER STABILITY AND BETTER HANDLING AT HIGH SPEED.
THIS CAR DID NOT COME EQUIPPED WITH AC FROM THE FACTORY.
THE BODY IS VERY SOUND WITH NO RUST ON THE CHASSIS, FLOORS OR HOOD. HOWEVER, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SMALL BUBBLES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORS. THE PAINT IS CRACKING AND LIFTING IN A FEW PLACES. SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS OF THE HOOD SHOWING THE PAINT LIFTING OFF BUT THERE IS NO RUST! THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE ONLY SOLID QUATTROPORTES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET.
THE INTERIOR IS ORIGINAL AND SHOWS TEARS ON THE DRIVER SEAT WITH LEATHER CRACKING IN A FEW OTHER PLACES.
THIS MASERATI WOULD BE A PERFECT CANDIDATE FOR RESTORATION AND BE THAT AS IT MAY, WITH ONLY A VERY FEW QUATTROPORTES REMAINING ON THE ROAD, THIS WOULD BE A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO A MASERATI COLLECTION. RARELY DOES ONE COME UP ON THE MARKET, ESPECIALLY IN ITS ORIGINAL PATINA.
THE CAR IS REGISTERED IN MY NAME WITH A CALIFORNIA TITLE. THE CAR IS LOCATED NEAR WASHINGTON DC. CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. SHIPPING IS AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE AND PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE CLOSE OF AUCTION.

Maserati confirms limited edition Quattroporte Zegna for production
Thu, Jul 17 2014Last year two of the biggest names in Italian style – one from the automotive industry and one from fashion – announced a partnership. Together Maserati and Ermenegildo Zegna revealed a "concept" version of the Quattroporte at the Frankfurt Motor Show, only given how production-ready the show car already looked, nobody really believed it would remain just a concept. And now, having revealed the final version in Geneva, Maserati has confirmed it for production. Limited production, that is, because Maserati will only build 100 examples of the Quattroporte Zegna edition for consumption around the world. That's about one-thirtieth of the number of cars Maserati produces each month at this point, and while the Modenese automaker doesn't break down its sales figures by model, the QP accounts for a large proportion of those numbers. Maserati also hasn't said just how much it will charge for the Zegna edition, but you can bet it'll be a handsome premium – more than some of those designer-edition hatchbacks get at any rate – yet it'll undoubtedly offload the entire run in short order. "ONE OF 100" THE MASERATI QUATTROPORTE ZEGNA LIMITED EDITION Wednesday, July 16, 2014 – After making its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Maserati has revealed an exclusive limited edition Maserati Quattroporte in collaboration with luxury Italian fashion house, Ermenegildo Zegna. Just 100 examples of the limited series will be built which feature colour schemes, materials and exclusive trims which link the histories of the two brands. To celebrate the launch of the Quattroporte Zegna Limited Edition, Maserati and Zegna are embarking on a tour of four international events starting in Shanghai in July 2014 before stopping in New York (Sept 2014), Dubai (Feb 2015) and Milan (Spring 2015). The events are designed to present the Quattroporte Zegna Limited Edition to an exclusive audience and to celebrate the partnership between the two Italian brands; both of whom are masters in Italian excellence. The exclusive event locations have been carefully selected to enhance the uniqueness of the alliance and represent the pinnacle of Italian elegance. Guests will be able to discover the car's premium finishes in detail and see the extraordinary result of the partnership. World famous Italian photographer, Fabrizio Ferri, will be in attendance at each of the four events capturing 100 unique images – 25 from each occasion.
Maserati MC20 Icona and Leggenda special editions channel the MC12
Tue, Jun 18 2024Maserati is celebrating 20 years since the introduction of its legendary MC12 launched and took to the circuit with a couple of special edition MC20 supercars. Named the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, each takes after a specific look originally applied to MC12s. The MC20 Icona uses the MC12 Stradale’s best-known look with the white and blue two-tone on the exterior. Maserati says it consists of Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale on this MC20. YouÂ’ll also notice the Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Audace on the side of the car and the Italian flag just behind the front wheels, reminiscent of where it sits on the MC12. Maserati matched the wheel finish of the MC12 with a silver look on the MC20, and the blue-painted calipers really pop behind said wheels. As for the interior, Maserati equips both cars with the optional lightweight four-way racing seats. The Icona specifically enjoys a black and blue two-tone interior colorway with “Icona” embroidered onto the headrests. As for the Leggenda (directly above), this MC20 takes after the Vitaphone Racing teamÂ’s livery for its MC12 GT1 race car. ItÂ’s finished in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte. Interestingly, Maserati throws a splash of yellow at the Leggenda with yellow trident logos on the doors, grille and C-pillars. The trident wheels are then done in Nero Lucido with Digital Mint accents, and the calipers are painted in black to complete the package. Inside, you get a black and silver two-tone interior with “Leggenda” embroidered on the headrests. Maserati is only making 20 of each special edition model, called out by “UNA DI 20” on a badge in the engine bay. All of them are specÂ’d with a number of options such as the carbon fiber interior package, electronic limited-slip differential, nose lift, carbon fiber engine cover, Sonus Faber sound system, blind-spot monitoring and premium carpets. Maserati details the new, 630-hp V6 that will power its mid-engined MC20 coupe
Wed, Jul 1 2020Maserati is done leaning on former sister company Ferrari for technical support. It has unveiled the six-cylinder engine it designed and will build in-house to power the MC20 supercar that's scheduled to make its debut later in 2020. Ferrari's willingness to develop and/or build engines for Maserati shrank significantly when it split from former parent company Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in early 2016 and became independent. Insiders knew the division would be spun off, so they began designing Maserati's new engine (which is called Nettuno) in 2015 and accelerated the process in 2017. It's a 90-degree, 3.0-liter V6 with a dry sump and a twin-spark, pre-chamber ignition system rooted in racing. In this application, it's twin-turbocharged (the turbos are mounted on the outside of the engine rather than in the middle of it) and it's equipped with both direct and indirect fuel injection. All told, the 485-pound Nettuno engine develops 630 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 538 pound-feet of torque between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm. It continues revving to a redline of 8,000 rpm. Matteo Valentini, Maserati's chief engineer, explained the Nettuno engine will ultimately power the company's entire range of vehicles, though he stopped short of naming the specific models that will use it after the MC20. He added the six-cylinder will "bring Maserati back into the world of racing," meaning its output will likely grow in the not-too-distant future. We'll learn more about the engine when the MC20 makes its debut September 9. What remains to be seen is whether Maserati will replace the V8 available in the Levante and the Quattroporte, or if it will surf the downsizing wave sweeping across the industry. Developed jointly with Ferrari in the early 2010s, that engine makes 590 horsepower when it's bolted in the Levante Trofeo's bay, meaning its output is eclipsed by the Nettuno V6's. Both engines are built around a 90-degree architecture, so the 3.0-liter V6 could turn into a 4.0-liter V8 if it's modular enough to gain a pair of cylinders — and if Maserati sees a market for another eight-cylinder.
