Condition:

Pictures were taken today.  Car is in great shape inside and out.  No rust or salt issues, apparent door dings.  Non smoker car.  Paint is shiny, has minor swirl marks but still in good shape and kept in wax.  Scuff on front bumper touched up from parking curb.  Scuff in center of rear bumper from garage door hinge scraping the car.

Steering wheel is in perfect shape with no shiny or scuffs.  Rear seats are in great shape.

Engine is quiet, transmission shifts great and suspension has no issues of any kind.  Shocks are built to go the long haul and work perfectly.

Have original books and some documents.  We have 1 key.

Minor creasing / cracking on driver leather near thigh - see picture.  Minor scuffs around ignition from key chain.  Minor scuffs on center shift console.  Trunk grocery holder plastic panels are not 100%.  We never used this after getting the rubber floor mat.

Intermittent issue:

Lift gate power open feature will *sometimes* try to open and drop closed.  It opens fine when you use the button on the lid.  No error codes, just have to retry or lift on gate.

This was our trip car for vacation road trips and utility, but we are not using it as much as we thought and can get by without it.

This car has strong performance with the high output version of BMWs bread and butter engine making 255 horsepower mated to a 6 speed steptronic transmission with sport mode which makes surprisingly capable yet reliable and inexpensive to maintain.

BMW says current M3 sold out, no new AWD M models planned

Mon, 06 May 2013

Car and Driver asked the head of BMW M, Friedrich Nitschke, a few questions about what the go-fast division had in mind for the future, and was rewarded with some enlightening answers. The best news to purist ears is that Nitschke said customers don't want all-wheel drive on their M cars, so it's the rear wheels alone that will propel new product into the future. If you want both an M badge and four driven wheels, it's the X5 M, X6 M and M Performance models you're looking for in the catalog.
"Mixed bag" is the phrase you're looking for regarding the other answers. Nitschke said that future M engines "at the core of their architecture" would "be closer to BMW AG engines" that are optimized for M cars, instead of following in the line of unique marvels like the V10 and naturally aspirated V8. They will keep the high redlines, however, with Nitschke saying "there is room beyond" the 7,000 rpm mark in BMW's current V8 turbos.
Managing weight will keep the same priority for M that it is for every other brand, so electrically assisted power steering is coming, as is an "unconventional" materials mix. At the smaller end of the M scale, Nitschke described three-cylinder engines as "attractive," saying that the brand can produce more than 310 horsepower from a three-pot.

2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe now more expensive than when new

Sun, 06 Apr 2014

At the end of the day, your friendly Autoblog editors are car guys, just like you. So, while we might have more of an opportunity to test some of the most interesting vehicles on the new car scene than does your average gear head, we can still be found whiling away those long afternoon hours looking at used cars and thinking about what could be.
Just the other day, we had a vivid reminder about one of our dream cars from the very recent past, the 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe. If you didn't catch it, Michael Harley had a great time testing and reviewing the new Dinan S3-R version of the car, which throws an impressively engineered turbo and suspension tune on a BMW that was damn near perfect out of the box.
In the Comments section of that review, a few savvy Autoblog readers pointed out that our estimated price for a used donor car, set at $50,000, was low. Odd, we thought, as the car retailed for less than $50k ($46,135) when it was new in 2011. So we started checking around.

BMW recalling nearly 570,000 1 Series, 3 Series and Z4 models over electrical issue

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

BMW is recalling roughly 570,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada due to faulty battery cable connectors that can fail, causing the engines in these cars to stall. Of the nearly 570,000 affected vehicles, just over 504,000 are here in the US.
The affected vehicles include 1 Series coupes and convertibles (both 128i and 135i) from the 2008 to 2011 model years; 3 Series sedans, coupes, convertibles and sport wagons (both 328i and 335i) from the 2007 to 2011 model years; and Z4 roadsters from the 2009 to 2011 model years.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "the connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time," which can eventually lead to a break in the electrical connection and a loss of power in the vehicle. If the car loses power, the engine can stall, which could possibly lead to a crash. The Detroit News reports that BMW knows of one minor collision in Canada as a result of this problem, but no injuries.
