THANK YOU. 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Custom Coupe Introduction Hello, I’m Marc Schiliro the owner of MS CLASSIC CARS,LLC. You might recognize my name or my business name from beautiful classic cars and trucks I’ve listed for sale nationally. I’ve got over 15 years of classic car and truck experience. I’d like to put that experience to work for you. Over the years I’ve featured many classic cars and trucks at multiple different auctions across the United States. I consign multiple classic cars and trucks at all four of the Barrett Jackson auto auctions every year. I’m considered one of the top consignors at Barrett Jackson. I’ve had many classic cars and trucks sell in the top 25 highest sale priced vehicles for each event. They’ve also offered some of my cars as the “Marc Schiliro Collection”. I was fortunate to have Speed TV at my new facility for an interview for Barrett Jackson that aired during the Barrett Jackson auto auction in Palm Beach 2012. I’m a regular consignor at the Mecum auctions as well. I also have had many cars that have been featured in multiple magazines and multiple websites. I specialize in beautiful classic cars and trucks that have what I call “The Pop Factor”. I purchase classic cars and trucks that are finished, I redesign other people’s restorations and have also coordinated restorations from start to finish. I’m currently not doing full restorations as it takes too much time and money. I love what I do and I’m extremely passionate about it! Two years ago I opened a beautiful new facility located in Seekonk, MA. MS CLASSIC CARS is open to the public on Saturdays. We offer about 25 classic cars and trucks for sale. We also offer complete automotive detailing. Our facility is very neat and organized. When you call you deal directly with me. I appreciate the opportunity. We except all trades. If you’d like to be added to our VIP EMAIL BLAST that gets sent to thousands of people when we get a new addition please visit my website and sign up. Please also like us on Facebook for updates. The power of networking is amazing! Market I've been collecting classic cars and trucks for over fifteen years now and have seen a lot happen. I've seen the hobby continue to grow not only at the auctions but also with the amount of television shows, magazines and websites that are related to classic cars in some form or another. I strongly believe the classic car market is a great place to invest in. When the economy is strong, the classic car market is extremely strong. When the economy isn't so strong the classic car market holds its own. I've sold classic cars and trucks in both economic conditions. The reason classic cars make such a great investment is because people are crazy about cars, especially the classics! I've learned it's not just the United States; it’s the entire world. Barrett Jackson stated, "Foreigners can sometimes represent 25% of the registered bidders at one of our auctions." At the Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, AZ 2011 they stated, "There was a registered bidder from every state in the USA.” I've also learned that no matter the gender or age, all different people appreciate this hobby. Another example would be the Barrett Jackson auto auctions; not only do millions of people watch it live on the Speed Channel but hundreds of thousands of people attend these auctions. Every year the attendance of visitors at the event and number of viewers on T.V. increase. Over the years I've noticed that the extremely detailed classic cars have always commanded a higher price. Even people who don't have any classic car experience can recognize and appreciate attention to detail. Currently the overall market is on the raise once again. Certain classic cars are on the rise and others are on the decline. Typically, the classic cars that are on the rise are the cars that a lot of people don't own. In other words, there are classic cars that haven't saturated the market. The cars that are at every car show and auction and page on the Internet for sale are the ones that aren't changing in value or are slowly on the decline. Of course, if the car is spectacular it will command a higher price as I mentioned. It's all about supply and demand, not a good or bad economy. Custom cars have remained strong because each car is different from the next one. They each have their own character. “I’m putting my money where my mouth is” I’m just a 38 year old blue collar guy who was working full time selling new and used Mercedes Benz. I was selling my classic cars and trucks part time. Although I had my used car dealers license I didn’t have a facility that was open to the public. Overall things were going just fine. However, my dream was to open my own classic car and truck dealership. I decided to give up my full time job with health insurance and a 401K to open a new classic and truck dealership. I had to invest a ton of money to make that happen and now have a lot more overhead. Do you think I would’ve done all that if I didn’t think the classic car and truck market wasn’t going to remain strong? I consign anywhere from three to eight cars at each Barrett Jackson auto auction at no reserve because I know there’s always going to be bidders for classic cars and trucks. “I’ve been collecting and selling beautiful classic cars and trucks for over 15 years and have always appreciated classic Volkswagens. I really like the Karmann Ghia bodystyle and when I came across this one for sale I had to have it. This is my first classic Volkswagen and the next one I purchase is going to have a hard time comparing to this one. Most Karmann Ghias on the market for sale aren’t full restorations with a lot of attention to detail. This car is over the top and speaks for itself. The proof is in the pudding with the multiple awards and multiple magazine features. This car isn’t only great looking but it was built to run and drives like a sports car. It’s also very roomy as I’m 6 foot 200 pounds and fit in the car perfectly. It even has a functional rear seat. A restoration of this caliber would cost $20,000 or $30,000 more then I’m asking. I would challenge anyone to find another one like it. This is a rare opportunity to get into a great classic car for a very attractive price range. Get it before some else does!”
The Owner- Marc Schiliro
Long Description MS CLASSIC CARS is proud to present a beautiful 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Custom Coupe. Attention Volkswagen enthusiasts! What we have here is something very special. As I mentioned above I’ve been collecting and selling beautiful classic cars and trucks for over 15 years but never have had a classic Volkswagen until now. I’ve always appreciated the Karmann Ghia for its overall design. I’ve been looking for a Ghia for a long time but honestly 90% of the ones on the market for sale are not the quality I search for. One day I was searching the internet for a classic Porsche and this car showed up in the search because the words, Porsche Burner chrome wheels was in the sellers description. I couldn’t believe my eye balls when I read the description and checked out all photos. I had to have it! The owners of Vintage Metal Werks, LLC located in Ohio named Joe and Kim Patterson have a reputation for restoring beautiful classic Volkswagens and Porsches. They have over 21 years experience and wanted to build a car for themselves. Like me they both really liked the Karmann Ghia and wanted to build one-of-a-kind custom. In August of 2008 there dream became a reality and this baby was being made. Thousands of hours and dollars were invested into this rotisserie restoration. It was completed in January 2010 and came out absolutely spectacular. They were determined to show the car to the world and give the car the exposure it deserved. Although the car has been to some smaller local shows it wasn’t until 2011 when the Ghia made its first major debut at Winterjam in Daytona, Florida. This is the largest VW car show on the east coast. The car placed first and won the “Best of Engine” and “Best of Paint” awards. At this show it was also selected as one of the featured cars for the world famous Air Monkeys magazine in Europe. This was only the beginning of its successful car show career. It went on to win many car shows with all different titled awards. It was also featured multiple times in HOT VW’S magazine. Listed below are some of the award titles: 2011 – Best of Gathering, Best of Show, Best theme and TOP 15 pick. Car was featured in HOT VW’s magazine in October of 2011. 2012- Sponsors choice, First place Ghia and both TOP 15 and TOP 25 pick. Car was featured in HOT VW’s magazine again in November of 2012. During the restoration the body was removed from the chassis and everything was completely sandblasted. New floor pans were installed in the chassis. Then the complete chassis was coated in epoxy primer then painted base coat clear coat in DuPont Platinum F1498. All bushings, nuts and bolts are new on the chassis. New heater channel and rocker assembly’s were installed. Rear quarter panels were cut out and new ones were installed from donor car. The engine bay was shaved and smoothed for a clean look. The body was first coated with epoxy Limco LP20 and then worked, blocked and primed with Limco 800K 2K primer. The entire body was then painted Limco LS800 sealer and then Dupont base coat Dark Blue Effect paint code D08. Then four coats of Glassurit clear coat was added. It was then wet sanded and buffed to a show quality shine. It has very nice body lines and gaps. The hood, doors and trunk open and close tightly. The DuPont Dark Blue Metallic paint is beautiful and serious eye candy. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced. I recently replaced the front windshield and replaced the aluminum side moldings with upgraded stainless moldings. The bumpers are stainless steel and it has upgraded HID headlights. The car has been lowered roughly 2” and has a great stance on reproduction Porsche Gas Burner chrome wheels. The front tires are Conti Eco contacts that are 145/65/15. The rear tires are Cooper Sportmaster GLT’s that are 165/15. The exterior is complimented gorgeous tan interior with matching blue appointments. The old dash was cut out and replaced with the dash from the donor car. The interior is from TMI with all new seat cushions under the new upholstery. Some of the interior upgrades include power Matt sound deader throughout cabin, new Wiring Works wiring kit, new seals throughout, custom red button for washer fluid, Grant GT steering wheel and Gene Bery quick throw shifter. Both the heat and defroster work. The sound system is over the top with no expense spared. It consists of the following components; Alpine stereo with Ipod and Bluetooth, custom kick panel enclosures with two MB Quart 6” speakers, rear deck panel two 6x9 MB Quart speakers, custom fiberglass enclosure with two 10” MB Quart subwoofers, two MB Quart amplifiers and a Soundstream crossover. Surprisingly the interior of this car is very spacious. I’m six foot tall and fit in the car with room to spare. It even has a functioning rear seat. The stereo equipment is located behind the rear seat. I recently replaced the windshield which was over $300.00. The windshield that was in the car was nice but had minor scratches so I decided to go brand new. I also replaced the aluminum trim on the lower door panels with stainless which was around $200.00. The original style basket shelve that sits below the dash is included with the car and pictured below. The rear engine compartment is highly detailed and truly stunning. It’s been fabricated to hide all hoses and mirrors have been placed to see the engine at any angle. The 1865 engine in this Ghia was built to perform. It’s got tons of upgrades such as electronic ignition, High Performance dual carburetors, DLRA 40 Delltro, big valve heads that were ported and polished, upgraded crank, flywheel, rods, pistons, cam, valve springs and a full flow oil system with deep sump. VW adding particulate filters to gas engines
Wed, Aug 3 2016Volkswagen is working hard to overcome the PR disaster that is its diesel emissions scandal, and part of its efforts is focusing, weirdly, on petrol engines. Starting in June 2017, the embattled German automaker will add particulate filters to the gas-powered Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi A5. The change will eventually impact nearly every direct-injected gas engine the VW Group makes. Audi? Particulate filter. Seat? Particulate filter. Even Bentley is going to get the tech, all in a bid to reduce soot emissions by 90 percent. In fact, by 2022 VAG expects 7 million of its vehicles to boast the emissions-cleaning tech, which has long been a fixture on diesel engines. "Following increases in efficiency and lower CO2 output, we are now bringing about a sustained reduction in the emission levels of our modern petrol engines by fitting particulate filters as standard," Volkswagen Group research and design boss Dr. Ulrich Eichhorn said in a statement. "In the future, all models will be equipped with the latest and most efficient SCR catalytic converter technology." VW's initial rollout focuses on the 1.4-liter, turbocharged Tiguan and the 2.0-liter, turbocharged A5. Considering the popularity of the 2.0-liter across the VW range, we'd expect it's only a matter of time before VW expands its particulate filters tech to additional gas-powered vehicles. 2015 Volkswagen Golf R [w/video]
Mon, Nov 24 2014Volkswagen hired a photographer to come shoot the handful of journalists that it brought to drive the 2015 Golf R at Buttonwillow Raceway north of Los Angeles. This fact, though unremarkable in and of itself, was something I hadn't noticed until I was well into my track time – probably ten laps deep on a day that would see me run twice that number. In any event, I noticed the intrepid shooter as he was sprinting from one side of the track to the other somewhere before Turn 2, while I was barreling down the main straightaway, still looking through Turn 1. In the roughly two-mile configuration of the track that I drove, Buttonwillow is a big, wide-open circuit, largely flat and with excellent overall visibility. On that layout, and just hours into my Golf R experience, I'd already become confident in endeavoring to push the limits of VW's latest blistering hatch. In fact, the easy nature of driving the thing quickly had me overestimating my pace. So when I saw the photog sprint across the tarmac I instinctively slowed way too much, way too early for Turn 1. Looking back at the incident after I'd pitted for the session, I laughed at myself, knowing I'd have had to be driving almost double my actual speed to put the camera guy in any real danger of being hit. But the experience crystallized what my full test of the R bore out: this is a car that makes you feel much faster than you otherwise would, at least in a competition setting. The 2015 Golf R is an uber hatch that will flatter those hyper-enthusiasts passionate enough to splash out on its steep price tag, but without threatening sales of core models like the GTI and its ilk. That's a good thing for the VW fanboys, to be sure, and, I'd argue, a great thing for the strength of the German brand overall. {C} The R felt both placid and comfortable while I clicked off highway miles in search of the racetrack. My test in California had at least two things in common with the First Drive feature that Steve Ewing brought us with the Golf R in Sweden. First, we both drove European specification cars (though mine didn't suffer from the same sticker abuse that Steve's did). Second, we were both somewhat limited in terms of driving the car in varied, real-world situations. My street route consisted almost entirely of tracking California's I-5 north out of Los Angeles; which any Angelino will tell you is a less-than-riveting mode of travel.
Rising aluminum costs cut into Ford's profit
Wed, Jan 24 2018When Ford reports fourth-quarter results on Wednesday afternoon, it is expected to fret that rising metals costs have cut into profits, even as rivals say they have the problem under control. Aluminum prices have risen 20 percent in the last year and nearly 11 percent since Dec. 11. Steel prices have risen just over 9 percent in the last year. Ford uses more aluminum in its vehicles than its rivals. Aluminum is lighter but far more expensive than steel, closing at $2,229 per tonne on Tuesday. U.S. steel futures closed at $677 per ton (0.91 metric tonnes). Republican U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is weighing whether to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which could push prices even higher. Ford gave a disappointing earnings estimate for 2017 and 2018 last week, saying the higher costs for steel, aluminum and other metals, as well as currency volatility, could cost the company $1.6 billion in 2018. Ford shares took a dive after the announcement. Ford Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks told analysts at a conference in Detroit last week that while the company benefited from low commodity prices in 2016, rising steel prices were now the main cause of higher costs, followed by aluminum. Shanks said the automaker at times relies on foreign currencies as a "natural hedge" for some commodities but those are now going in the opposite direction, so they are not working. A Ford spokesman added that the automaker also uses a mix of contracts, hedges and indexed buying. Industry analysts point to the spike in aluminum versus steel prices as a plausible reason for Ford's problems, especially since it uses far more of the expensive metal than other major automakers. "When you look at Ford in the context of the other automakers, aluminum drives a lot of their volume and I think that is the cause" of their rising costs, said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at auto consultancy LMC Automotive. Other major automakers say rising commodity costs are not much of a problem. At last week's Detroit auto show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne reiterated its earnings guidance for 2018 and held forth on a number of topics, but did not mention metals prices. General Motors Co gave a well-received profit outlook last week and did not mention the subject. "We view changes in raw material costs as something that is manageable," a GM spokesman said in an email.
