1986 Toyota Tercel Dlx 4wd Wagon Auto on 2040-cars

1986 Toyota Tercel 4wd DLX in nice shape. Runs good. Engine and transmission strong. No leaks. Uses 1 quart of oil every 3K miles. Transmission shifts very smooth. 137,000 miles. Being driven so miles may be higher. I bought this in January for my son but he wants something else. We have driven 3k miles and have had no problems with it. Body is nice for age. Some surface rust spots, and some some rust around window seals. The bottom of the doors have more rust on the inside than can be seen from outside. Frame and underneath are solid. 4wd works great. Car always starts right up. Drives straight smooth until you reach higher freeway speeds. At 60 car is smooth. At 75 steering wheel shakes. Interior is in excellent shape. Has carpet.

Just replaced transmission fluid and back portion of transfer case.

What it needs: rear shocks/struts, slight leak on exhaust manifold (after engine warms up, not noticeable; I purchased one to be installed, but haven't done it. It comes with car), one inside boot is cracked but does not affect steering yet, break fluid would need to be flushed, tires have tread but are cracking, needs rear wiper, A/C blows warm, may just need a charge. The guy I bought it from said it worked.

This is an old, used car and may need other things. I've described it as best as I can. Overall, car is in good shape.

Japan's government gives hydrogen vehicles a big boost

    Tue, Jun 3 2014

The Japanese government is really paving the way for hydrogen fuel cell technology on its roads. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry is changing regulations on fuel tanks to make hydrogen cars more appealing to drivers, which should help put the country ahead of others in the race to develop a viable H2 fleet. Japan is raising the allowed pressure of hydrogen tanks from 700 atmospheres to 875, which has the effect of increasing driving range by 20 percent. This move puts the country in line with others with high-pressure fueling regulations. Japan is also in talks with the United Nations and the European Union to streamline inspection rules to make it easier to export Japan's fuel-cell vehicles. Toyota premiered its hydrogen-powered FCV Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show last year and plans to release a production version as early as next year. Honda also plans to build its own fuel-cell cars for 2015, and it debuted its FCEV Concept at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Nissan is sending mixed messages on hydrogen, both questioning the availability of a refueling infrastructure and working on developing the vehicles. In Japan, a relatively small country, increasing the range of fuel-cell vehicles makes creating a usable infrastructure a bit less daunting. Will hydrogen-fueled electric cars see the same sort of success as Toyota's Prius hybrid or battery-powered EVs? Only time will tell, but we can keep our fingers crossed that it will, and that the popularity spills over beyond Asia. Toyota issues multiple recalls for 6.4 million vehicles worldwide

    Wed, 09 Apr 2014

It looks like 2014 may go down as the year of recalls. We were already at a record pace, and now it seems Toyota is recalling 6.39 million vehicles worldwide, including about 30 of its models for a variety of problems. None of the faults have caused any injuries or fatalities, but there have been two reports of fires caused by a defective engine starter motor.
Toyota's numbers show 1.772 million vehicles being recalled in the US, but that includes some overlap because the Yaris is being repaired for multiple faults. According to The Detroit News, there are 2.36 million affected models in all of north North America, 1.09 million in Japan and 810,000 in Europe, plus smaller numbers in other regions.
Among the vehicles recalled in the US are 1.3 million units of the 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris. The problem is that the driver's airbag module is attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on the cable can be damaged when the steering wheel is turned, which deactivates the airbag and causes the airbag warning light to come on. Toyota is replacing the cable with an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin the repair. The company is sending affected owners notifications in the mail. According to The Detroit News, an unspecified number of Pontiac Vibe vehicles are also included in this recall because it shares the part with the Matrix.

NHTSA releases updated Takata airbag recalled cars list, but it still has errors

    Wed, 22 Oct 2014

Unfortunately, the government's list still contains errors.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued an updated list of vehicle models that it's urging owners to repair under the mushrooming Takata airbag inflator recall. The latest version adds vehicles from new automakers like Subaru and Ford that are missing from the original announcement, and it also removes erroneous entries from General Motors, leaving only the 2005 Saab 9-2X (a reskinned Subaru WRX), and the 2003-2005 Pontiac Vibe, a joint project with Toyota.
