Porsche slathers Martini livery on 911, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne

This is how we imagine the conversation went in Porsche's Stuttgart headquarters: "Martini livery. Martini livery all the things." Okay, so maybe not, but that hasn't stopped Porsche from showing off images of its entire lineup bearing the iconic racing livery.
While we aren't sure about the questionably yellow 911 and lime green Macan, the navy blue Cayenne and the white Panamera both look pretty spectacular as they lap about the streets of Sochi, Russia.
As for why the liveried sports cars and crossovers were at the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, we aren't totally sure. Porsche's Facebook page, where the images first popped up, was really light on details. Whatever the reason, we fully support Porsche doing more with Martini livery. Perhaps one of the most iconic sports cars in the world, it was no surprise that the Porsche 911 showed up in numbers to the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Although the original 911 launched 50 years ago, the original and current models are instantly recognizable as 911s, and since the 911 has a storied racing background, there were probably just as many racing versions of the coupe as there were street-legal versions.
As the show's 2013 honoree, one of the prime racing examples was a 1970 Porsche 911 S raced by Sam Posey. There were so many cars in attendance, we didn't know where to look, but a 1985 911 Speedster concept and a Porsche-owned, rally-ready 911 Type 953 were definitely among the more impressive standouts. As an added bonus, Jacksonville-based Brumos Porsche had many of its classic racecars on display including a beautiful 959.

Water-cooled Porsches are superior to the old, air-cooled models. This really isn't up for debate, despite the mob of Porsche purists, with pitchforks and torches in hand, currently descending on the Autoblog offices. Water-cooled models are more powerful and easier to live with, two factors that make modern Porsches just so darn amazing.
And while we won't hear arguments on anything we've written above, we will say that the old air-cooled models, while not superior, are just, somehow, better. They sound better - a lot better. They're simple, elemental and wildly entertaining things, that just beg for more and more. They rev in a way that forces drivers to work to unlock their power, rather than just push their right foot down. Part of the appeal of air-cooled Porsches, in addition to what we just listed, are the gorgeous cars they're slotted into, like the subject of the latest video from Petrolicious.
Starring a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS, this video is a bit shorter than recent ones, but it's no less exciting. This 911, complete with it's sweet-sounding exhaust is the kind of simple, entertaining thing we can watch over and over. Scroll down for the full video.
