This is NOT another wrong motored, green on green, average, base 350 hp GTO you see everywhere on the market. This is 1 of only 3140 1968 360hp 400 HO GTO’s produced with complete PHS docs. It is a one owner car bought new in San Diego in late 1967. Check out the vintage HURST TIRES sticker! Hurst made tires?!? I bought it from the son of the mother that bought it new (she must’ve been a pretty cool mom). It is an all numbers matching, truly investment grade car that has just undergone a complete restoration. It looks as good in person as it does in the pix. The original YZ block has the matching vin stamped on front of engine and the born with PX-68 turbo 400 transmission with matching vin stamp as well. It is a power steering, power drum brake car with less than 2000 miles on the rebuilt engine and trans. It is an original and rare Meridian turquoise with white interior car sporting period correct redline tires on Ralley II rims, hideaway lights and a complete and correct for 1968 Ram Air setup. The hideaway light setup has all new vacuum actuators and hardware and operates flawlessly. The wheel opening and rocker mouldings are new as are the emblems. Having spent most of its life in sunny southern California the car has never seen rust. The floors, trunk, quarters, fenders, doors ect are all original to this car. The body was completely stripped down to bare metal, sprayed in PPG epoxy primer and then primed and blocked multiple times and then sprayed in the correct original Meridian turquoise. The underside and motor compartment were cleaned thoroughly and resprayed the correct semi gloss black and both look better than when they were new! The trunk only needed cleaning and recoating in the correct spatter paint. The rear bumper and tail lights are new. New shocks. The engine is relatively stock with a slightly larger cam, Crane roller rockers, bored .030, Holley 750 cfm 4 bbl carb and a Petronix electronic ignition setup and distributor, all performance upgrades that really woke up the motor. The heads and exhaust manifolds are original. This car is making close to 400 hp and runs very strong in any gear. While most of the interior was still in good shape the front seat covers, headliner and carpet are new. Original Hurst His & Her shifter. It also has a new windshield. Rear end is the original 10 bolt with a posi and 3:73 gear and it has a complete new exhaust system.
True Pontiac enthusiasts already know this but in the Pontiac world real value is in the originality of the car. If your in the market for a nice GTO don’t throw away your money on a non-original car with the wrong motor and/or trans. You WILL sell it some day. Wouldn’t you like to not only get your investment back but actually make a profit? I have done my best to describe this car but there is no accounting for individual taste. As usual winning bid is NOT an invitation to inspect but a legally binding contract to purchase. This car is available for inspection anytime prior to auction ending. I urge any interested parties to either inspect car themselves or send someone to act as their agent. YOU WIN THE AUCTION I EXPECT YOU TO PAY FOR THE CAR. This car is sold without warranty. 20% non-refundable down pymt due 3 days after auction end. Vehicle must be picked up within 3 weeks or storage charges will apply.

Detroit City Council vetoes Autorama stunt, objects to Confederate flag
Wed, Feb 20 2019Detroit's Autorama hot rod show will stage its 67th annual event next month, and wants to kick off with Burt Reynolds tribute. The plan is to re-create the Mulberry Bridge jump from " Smokey and the Bandit" using a movie-correct 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. But the Detroit City Council voted 7-1 to prohibit the jump. Why? Because the Trans Am's front license plate holder displays the former Georgia state flag, a portion of which is the Confederate national flag, and the city council doesn't like that. In the movie, Bo "Bandit" Darville was a Georgia driving legend, and the flag on the car was Georgia's flag at the time. Councilman Scott Benson laid out the council's position when he said that the car "still proudly flies a Confederate flag, which is a symbol of oppression, slavery, as well as home-bred American terrorism. So this body said we are not going to support that type of symbolism nor the audacity to support that type of activity in the city of Detroit." It seems part of the council's ire comes from the same event two years ago. A stunt group called the Northeast Ohio Dukes re-created a "Dukes of Hazzard" jump in 2017 using a series-correct 1969 Dodge Charger, complete with a Confederate flag on the roof. Benson said the stunt group "expressly said they would not display that [Confederate flag] symbol during the jump." Not only was it displayed, but when driver Raymond Kohn gave interviews after the jump, his driving suit featured the Stainless Banner on the collar. Seems the council has been grinding its axe in silence for two years. Now Benson accuses Autorama of "a history of supporting images and symbols of racism, oppression, and white supremacy." Autorama is certain to take place March 1-3 at Cobo Center. This year's show will have around 800 cars on display, along with a special exhibit of 17 low riders and a Batmobile built by Flint native Carl Casper. Even if the Bandit car doesn't make the jump, the Trans Am and other memorabilia from the film will be there. A spokeswoman for Autorama said, "We are continuing to work to try to resolve this with the city." Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
Burt Reynolds' personal 1977 Trans-Am from Smokey And The Bandit for sale
Fri, Dec 5 2014Smokey and the Bandit is one of those quintessential 1970s car movies with insane premises but tons of fun. After all, the basic plot of the film is about distracting the police to transport cases of Coors beer cross country. While Burt Reynolds receives top billing, the real star is definitely his black Pontiac Trans-Am. Now, there's a chance to posses one of these muscle machines actually owned by Reynolds, and it's already proving quite popular. The car is a '77 Trans-Am with the famous, gold screaming chicken proudly on the hood. However, while this is a piece of Reynolds memorabilia, it's not really part of cinematic history. According to the listing, this example was used as a promotional vehicle and then given to Reynolds with a title showing him as a previous owner for proof. Still, there's 400-cubic-inch (6.55-liter) V8 under the hood with a 4-barrel carburetor and an automatic transmission. A plaque inside the driver's door proclaims the car as a "1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds," and there's a Bandit logo on the door. This is just one lot of Julien Auction's sale of Reynolds memorabilia on December 11 and 12 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Bidding is already running online, and the Trans-Am is up to $130,000, as of this writing. For the true Reynolds fanatic, the auction also lists the motorized stagecoach from his wedding to Loni Anderson. It rides built on an International Harvester Scout frame with an interior reportedly from Dolly Parton.
