1958 Ford Ranchero.

Up for auction is a really nice customized Ranchero. This muscle truck has a V8 351 cu.in. Cleveland engine with an C6 automatic transmission, and is equipped with a console mounted B & M shifter. The engine has an Edelbrock aluminum intake and an Edelbrock four barrel carburator (with a manual choke), and dual exhausts. The wiring on the Ranchero looks to have been replaced with a painless wiring setup. The Ranchero sounds very nice and drives well, it has manual steering and the brakes are manual drums, they stop the car as they should. The truck has 16" American Racing polished aluminum Torque Thrust wheels, wider in the back and narrower in the front, and it has air shocks in the rear; this Ranchero has a very nice stance.

The interior is in excellent condition, it has been completely refurbished. The Ranchero has newer Ford bucket seats, they are very comfortable and give the driver of this car a great driving/seating position, the carpets are nice and cover most of the cab. The car has many cool features, including a secret start button and working power windows. It has a custom center console, with an aftermarket triple gauge package (volts, water temp., oil pressure), and a steering column mounted tachometer. All the gauges/lights work.....(it even has matching purple courtesy lights in the cab :), as do the wipers, horn, and radio.....even the heater works!

I really like the custom look and paint style of this Ranchero. It looks very nice, even the bed has been painted to the same standard, with grey stone chip paint for the heavy duty sections. The paint is of a nice driver quality, but being older it does have some wear, minor chips/scratches....most only visible close up. There are a couple of spots were the paint has blemished from age. The body is in very good solid condition as is the frame and suspension. The chrome looks good, but has not been refurbished and shows its age in places. This car is an older build (possibly 7+ years), and was nicely set up to be used and enjoyed. The Ranchero has a clean and clear California title. If you have any questions you are welcome to contact me through ebay, or call my cell 559-801-8623 only between 10am-6pm California time.

NOTE: due to "multiple" problems with non-paying zero/excessive -ve feedback bidders. We will not accept bids from zero/excessive -ve feedback ebayers, unless they provide valid contact information before bidding.

The car is sold as-is and as equipped. However, you are welcome to come see and/or have the car inspected before the end of the auction. Payment is due in full within seven days of the end of the sale. California buyers and all in-state sale are subject to sales tax, doc. & lic. fees. All vehicles in California over ten years old are sold miles 'exempt', it is assumed that the mileage on this vehicle has turned over at least once. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer.

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set

Tue, Jul 19 2022

Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence  the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.

EPA says fuel economy test for hybrids is accurate

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

The EPA says it stands behind its fuel economy test for hybrid vehicles following controversy about the testing process after Ford C-Max Hybrid customers and automotive journalists alike struggled to achieve 47 miles per gallon, the advertised mpg number, Automotive News reports. Ford responded to the issue almost two weeks ago by claiming that a 1970s-era EPA general label rule was responsible for the inaccurate mileage numbers, rerating the C-Max Hybrid's mpg numbers and offering customers rebates. Ford later said it didn't overstate the C-Max Hybrid's fuel economy and that it was surprised by the low numbers.
Ford technically didn't do anything wrong because it was following the general label rule, but agency regulator Christopher Grundler says the automaker was exploiting a loophole when it came up with the hybrid C-Max numbers, and that the testing process remains accurate. The general label rule allows vehicles that use the same engine and transmission and are in the same weight class to share fuel economy numbers, but it doesn't take into account other factors such as aerodynamic efficiency, which affects hybrids more drastically than non-hybrid vehicles. Ford originally used the Fusion Hybrid economy figures for the C-Max Hybrid and claimed the engineers didn't realize that its aerodynamic efficiency would affect fuel economy as much as it did.

1964 Ford GT40 prototype sells for $7M

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Seven-figure Ferraris are not horribly rare. Heck, an eight-figure Ferrari isn't a rare occurrence. Between modern masterpieces like the Enzo and more classic offerings, cracking the million-dollar mark isn't a particularly tall order for the cars from Maranello. For a Ford, though, it's a big deal.
Now, this is not just some rare Mustang. This is a GT40, the car that Henry Ford II commissioned to whip Enzo Ferrari around a track in France. As far as the Le Mans-winning racers go, they don't get much rarer than this one. Sold at the Mecum Auctions in Houston, this is one of the prototypes, meaning it's one of the very first GT40s ever built. That makes its $7 million winning a bid, a record for on-air coverage of the auction, a pretty darn impressive figure.
You can watch the auction below, but first, take a look back at our original story on this rare Blue Oval.
