Ultra Clean & Straight Survivor Of The 1980's on 2040-cars
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
Relisted because of non-paying "buyer". Reluctantly offered up for sale is my ultra clean, cherry 1985 Dodge Ram 150 Royal SE Prospector pick up truck. I now have 3 cars and 1 truck and not enough parking for all four. One of these vehicles has to go. I purchased this truck from it's long time owner in southwest Texas, close to the "Arid-zona" border. The dry climate out there could be why there are NO rust holes on this truck! The (mostly) original paint is still Smooth and Shiny, the under carriage also rust free. There are no rips or tears in the seat, carpeting, dashboard or headliner, as the pics here show. The seat's insides are still firm and supportive. I am guessing that the mileage is 123K; but it sits, looks and drives like a 23K vehicle. The 318, 2 barrel carb engine starts up instantly and idles quite smoothly when warmed up. The 3 speed TorqueFlite transmission shifts up and down by textbook standards, part throttle down shifts happen exactly when needed. (Did you know that the powertrain combination of the 318 engine and 3 speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission was Chrysler Corporation's lowest warranty claim powertrain....ever?) The smooth, easy to use power steering and power front disc brakes give great driving ease. the tilt steering wheel and cruise control add to your driving ease and enjoyment. The muffler & tailpipe appear to be of recent replacement. IMO this truck drives as sweet and perfect as it did the day it was built. The heater WILL scorch you in the winter, the Factory Air Conditioning is all intact but inoperative. The am/fm "Quartz Lock Precision Series" factory radio works as well as one can expect from almost 40 year old technology. IDK if the cassette player still works; no cassettes to try in it. In my efforts to make this truck a completely reliable & enjoyable driver I have replaced the following in the last 2 years/3K miles: spark plugs & wires, dist, cap & rotor, ignition module, coil, carburetor, fan clutch, brand new battery, alternator & voltage regulator, radiator hoses, thermostat & radiator cap, fuel pump & filter, oil pan and oil pump (gasket was leaking, oil drain bolt rounded off, changed oil pump "just in case" because it was accessible at the time), windshield & gasket and added Dodge factory fender mounted turn signal indicators. The tires were brand new, with the nubbies still on the side when I bought the truck. The front brake pads have plenty of miles left on them. The headlights have been upgraded to the Sylvania "Silver Series" for increased brightness/night time visibility. This low mileage truck needs nothing! Just drive it and enjoy it. The turn signals, brake lights, back up lights, horn, intermittent wipes & washers all work. It passed LA state inspection a few months ago. This truck was to be my "loaner" vehicle for my family & friends so I made darn sure it would perform perfectly for us all. It's been "loaned out" several times with no complaints; just admiring comments and praise. The enclosed pictures just do not do this truck justice. It truly is a very clean, reliable almost 40 year old survivor! I am always surprised and flattered by the compliments and comments it receives from strangers. Legal stuff: Although I know of no major problems with this old truck, it is being sold "As-Is" with no warranty given. There is an intermittent rattle somewhere in the dashboard. I have tried to be truthful and give an accurate description of this truck. No refund will be offered. I will have to have full payment before I can release this truck to you or your shipping agent. Bid now, bid often! (HaHa!) If you have ANY questions email me here; I check my emails several times a day. |

Old Dodge vans are big in Japan
Fri, Sep 23 2016One of the great things about Japan and its car culture is that it plays host to some of the most unusual and unique vehicle trends in the world. Whether it's neon-clad Lamborghinis or luxury sedans with insane negative camber, the country always seems to have something new up its sleeve. One of the most surprising trends is track-ready, full-size Dodge vans called Dajibans, and the video above presents a great look at these absurd machines. This isn't the first time we've covered these racing Dodge vans, but it's a subculture too awesome not to merit a second look. For one thing, just as American fans of Japanese cars here like to use JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) parts on their cars, the owners of these Dodges like to use American parts. Many of the vans feature Little Tree air fresheners inside and even have Spectre air filters on the intakes. Who would've thought there would be a market for Autozone's bread and butter auto accessories? Plus, these vans get some other impressive mods. Notice that some vans that appear to have stock metal bumpers, but they're actually fiberglass replicas in the original shape and given a chrome-like paint job. The video's host, an Australian drift fanatic named Alexi who lives in Japan and runs website called Noriyaro.com, gets some great onboard footage, too. One of the vans he rides along in is powered by a generally stock 318 Dodge V8, and still has the original automatic transmission and column shifter. Impressively, the driver manages to manually shift it without grabbing the wrong gear, and even rev matches the shifts. Alexi explains that the driver can catch neutral in-between gears three and two, so there's a brief moment where he can blip the throttle. There's even more information in the video, and it's all fantastic fun to watch. If you decide you haven't seen enough of Dajibans, you can also check out our previous post on it, which is more polished and provides some history and context to the trend. Dodge to reveal Hellcat-powered Challenger in Detroit?
Fri, 10 Jan 2014On top of all the other performance car debuts slated for next week's Detroit Auto Show, we might be able to add one more to the list - the new, supercharged Hellcat V8 from Chrysler. According to new reports, the rumored 640-horsepower mill is likely to cross the Motor City stage in the engine bay of a Dodge Challenger.
As AllPar points out, though, there may be more news than just the fire-breathing engine. While we've seen spy photos of the Hellcat testing under the hood of the current Challenger, there's a very fair chance that it won't arrive until the muscle car is refreshed later this year. The question now is whether that refresh will be shown off alongside the new engine in Detroit, or if it'll be saved, perhaps for the New York Auto Show.
Other details dug up by AllPar include potential transmissions for the supercharged engine - the Mopar-minded site is expecting an eight-speed automatic or a Tremec six-speed manual. Prices, meanwhile, could be in the same elevated range as the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, at $70,000 to $80,000.
Queens man knows how to party, disrupts Mets game with van
Fri, Jun 24 2016A New Yorker and all-around true American hero took his weekend festivities a little too far and landed himself in front of a judge last week. According to NBC New York, Nelson Hidalgo drove his unassuming Sprinter to Citi Field on Saturday, June 18, around 10:45 p.m. While the Mets were getting thrashed by the Braves, Hidalgo pulled up to the intersection of 127th street and 35th avenue. Hiding within the van's cargo area were 80 speakers driven by powerful amps, around $20,000 worth of car audio. Hidalgo opened the Sprinter's rear doors, deployed his amazing speaker system, cracked a cold Coors Light, and unleashed hell. Noise complaints immediately started flooding in to the police, including one from the Mets' bullpen. Soon, Hidalgo amassed a sizable crowd who had come to rock out and marvel at the lunacy of the Sprinter's sound system. The NYPD showed up eventually and, undaunted by noise and the crowd, clapped the irons on poor Nelson. The Sprinter was impounded and Hildago was charged with second-degree criminal nuisance, general noise prohibition, disorderly conduct, and obstructing the driver's view. "I know it's illegal, but it's the weekend," he explained to the cops as they hauled him away. Once they had him in custody, the NYPD realized that Hidalgo was the person they had been looking for in connection with absurdly loud music coming from various city junkyards in the dead of night. Hidalgo, who has no prior record, spent the night in the slammer but was released the next morning with no bail on the promise that he return for his court date on August 1. Related Video:
