1987 Monte Carlo Ss Aerocoupe on 2040-cars
Catawba, Virginia, United States
1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe. This low mileage Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe is a must see for any collector. In 1983 Ford introduced the new aero designed Thunderbird that inspired the style, even into today’s cars. While it also took over NASCAR and the showroom. So naturally GM had to fight back with what they had. While the styling of the Monte Carlo SS, of that era was a hit, it was still missing something on the racetrack. The sharp, vertical cutoff behind the C-pillar and long rear deck caused airflow turbulence at high speed, including unwanted lift. It just wasn’t competitive with the T-bird. With the Monte Carlo’s G-body platform not scheduled for replacement for a few years, engineers were left with few options. Their answer came in the form of a sloping, fastback-style rear window that effectively replaced the rear deck lid, giving the car greater stability and about a five-mph boost in top speed. Of course, to make the car legal with NASCAR, a number of production models were required; and with that, the Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe was born. The car’s development was completed in 1986, with a scant 200 production examples built that year. The production run in 1987 was 6,052, for a grand total of 6,252. Considering that more than 41,000 examples of the standard SS were made in 1986, and more than 33,000 “notchback” cars were built in 1987, the Aerocoupe is a comparatively rare model. The documentation for this includes the original window sticker. It still pulses from the original motor, a 305 cubic inch, 5.0 Liter High Output 4 barrel V8 with a 4 speed Turbo Hydramatic TH-200-4R transmission and a positraction rear end. This one was purchased new at GIL Farmer Chevrolet Corporation, Rocky Mount, VA . This SS Aero Coupe has 54,973 original miles and has been sitting in storage since 1998. It runs and drives great. Some of the features include six-way power seats, power door locks, power window, power truck opener, which is part of Chevrolet’s 75th super saver package. Other options on this car are the rear window defroster, air conditioning, remote sport mirrors, cruise control, and tilt steering. The original price of the car was $17,604 with $2,336 in options. This car is garage kept and will be a great investment for anyone for years to come.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]
Fri, 25 Jan 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Chevy confirms Corvette Stingray Convertible for Geneva
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Want proof that General Motors has increased global ambitions for its 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? It's staging the world premiere of the model's convertible variant at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.
As previously rumored, the droptop rendered above will debut at the Swiss show, making its first appearance anywhere on March 5. According to Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet, the location makes sense because Corvette "...is an icon that has long been recognized and admired even in countries where it's never officially been offered."
While neither Chevrolet nor the Corvette has a major sales presence in Switzerland, the Bowtie's European headquarters is located in Zurich (about three hours to the northeast of Geneva) and GM has made it clear that it wants to build the Chevrolet brand up across Europe.
MotorWeek looks back at 1995 Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon
Sat, Jun 20 2015MotorWeek's Retro Review series gives us a nostalgic look back at some of the best sports cars and luxury sedans available in the 1980s and '90s. For its latest clip, the show shifts gears to remember the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Similar to the success of crossovers today, SUVs were tallying big sales and making big money for automakers in the mid-'90s. The Tahoe and Yukon filled slots in the market as steps down from the larger Suburban. These twins weren't wanting for space, though, with plenty of room to haul around a family. MotorWeek came away generally impressed too, and called the models some "of the better riding sport utilities we've ever experienced." This review comes with some jazzy, electric guitar licks to enjoy in the background.
