1964 Malibu Ss Convertible on 2040-cars
Edison, New Jersey, United States
Up for auction is a 1964 Malibu SS convertible. It is non-number matching car, it is not restored and is definitely a driver. Title is clean. At some point in its life the original motor and trans were pulled. The history, reason and when that happened is unknown to us. When my family got the car it had the motor/trans as seen in the pics, a 350 with a 350 turbo trans. Car also does not have the original front bucket seats, or console, per the VIN and Trim codes thats what originally came with the car, and its what all SS came with. I did pick up an original console and floor shifter that I will sell separately if the buyer is interested. Also at some point a previous ower did repairs to the floors, there solid but its not the cleanest job, again this is why I consider the car a driver. After all of that its still a real 1964 SS convertible. So heres what we did with the car: all new harnesses interior and under the hood, new horns, upgraded the front brakes from drums to disc, rear brake job, front end was gone threw, all new ball joints, upper and lower bushings, all new weatherstripping, new door hinges on both sides, new carpet, classic audio radio with MP3 wire for your iphone, ipod, mp3 player, new front kick panels with speakers, new dual stereo dash speaker, also installed dual antennas. Wiper linkage was frozen so that was replaced, correct wiper motor was installed. Exhaust is a dual setup with magnaflow mufflers that have a nice rumble to them, its what was on the car when we got it, its in great shape and is welded, no clamps. Convertible top is in excellent shape, rear plastic window is very clear, top is manual and has to be folded down. I forgot to take a pic of the trunk but its in good and has a new trunk mat in it. The body color isn't the original, From my research of the codes it was originally a white car. This is butternut yellow and it has its flaws. A friend of ours did the door hinges at his shop for us and when we were finished tinkering around he was going to paint it for us, unfortunately his shop was destroyed when hurricane sandy hit the coast here in NJ in 2012. The car runs and drives good and handles like every other car built in the 60's. Have used it to go to car shows and cruise nights and have enjoyed it. I have some extras that I'll be including, the original front kick panels, extra set of headlights, a car cover and anything else I have that goes with it. If I had to list some cons of the car for you guys I'd say its the paint and the neatness of the floor work. The paint is not pealing or dull, it cleans up nice but it has its share of chips and some cracks. Just trying to be upfront, I dont want someone to buy it take delivery of the car and freaking out on me. With that in mind PLEASE ask any questions you have before bidding. If you are local and want to check it out we can set something up. Also - not interested in any trades at all. Thanks for checking out my auction. Must be paid for in full before the car goes anywhere.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value
Thu, 12 Jun 2014Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.
General Motors Recall List
Wed, Oct 22 2014It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. We used the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall list to compile a snapshot of all the GM vehicles recalled in the last two months. NHTSA also provides a search engine that allows owners to search for recalls on their vehicle. An automotive company must do everything in their power to notify its customers when a recall is issued on a vehicle. If you own any of the following vehicles and you have questions regarding your car, you can contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, Buick at 1-800-521-7300 and Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. Or check out General Motor's recall site. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov. Here's a brief summery of the other vehicles currently under recall: July 26 – 414,333 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V447000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with power height adjustable driver and passenger seats. Problem: In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position. Consequence: If the driver's seat unexpectedly drops, the distraction and altered seat position may affect the drivers' control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Solution: Dealers will replace the height adjuster shoulder bolts, free of charge. July 14 – 16,939 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V341000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured October 18, 2010, to June 2, 2011. Problem: In the affected vehicles, vibrations from the drive shaft may cause the vehicle's roll over sensor to command the roof rail air bags to deploy. Consequence: If the roof rail air bags deploy unexpectedly, there is an increased risk of crash and injury to the occupants.
Weekly Recap: Geneva's splendor reflects growing demand for ultra-luxury cars
Sat, Mar 7 2015Geneva is one of the most glittering auto shows in the world, but the list of high-powered and bespoke luxury cars was decadent this year even by the rich standards of the Swiss exhibition. It's great for enthusiasts to revel in the flame-throwing Aston Martin Vulcan, the racing-inspired elegance of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept and the insane performance of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, but there's a reason for all of this opulence: the luxury market is big business. And it's growing. IHS Automotive forecasts that so-called ultra-premium sales will nearly triple this decade from 123,000 to 353,000 units around the world. The estimate includes brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, but doesn't count BMW, Mercedes and Audi, which offer less expensive models in addition to their high-end flagships. Though IHS includes Porsche and its relatively large volume in the study, the ultra-premium segment is still set grow at about the same rate, even without the German automaker's figures. So what is propelling all of this growth in the most expensive segment of the auto industry? Put simply, there's more rich people. IHS Automotive principal analyst Tim Urquhart pointed to economic expansion in China, market recovery in the United States and a surge in the lucrative technology sector as contributing factors. This dovetails with a research report by UK-based Oxfam, an international relief organization, which found the world's richest one-percent owned 48 percent of global wealth in 2014, and it's expected to increase to more than 50 percent by 2016. View 17 Photos Carmakers are moving quickly to capitalize with new products, expanding their portfolios with low-volume speedsters like the 800-hp V12 Vulcan at Geneva, and plans to enter new segments, like Rolls-Royce's strategy to make an SUV. "Ultra-premium carmakers are looking to explore ways of growing their product offerings, and thus their bottom lines, in this most potentially profitable of segments," Urquhart wrote in a report on the Geneva show. In a nutshell, there are more choices for people with more money. It's a good time to have expensive taste. Other News & Notes 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata production launches It won't be long now.
