Up for sale is this 1971 Malibu Convertible. I purchased this car in 1997 and have enjoyed it over the past 16 years as a great driver for trips to the beach and
car shows. The car was in good driver condition when I purchased it with a fresh engine and transmission. Over the years the car has received several improvements
such as a new paint job in base coat clear coat and during that time the floor boards were inspected and a new passenger side front was replaced with Goodmark
sheetmetal. The rest of the floorboards appear to be factory and in good shape. I also added new dual exhaust with flowmaster two chamber mufflers,
all new front suspension and conversion to disc brakes, new cloth top with glass rear window, CD player with amp, 12" sub woofer, CD changer,
and four speakers, new chrome bumpers and trim, MSD ignition with HEI distributor, Edelbrock performer manifold and 4bbl carb. Recent improvements include new A/C compressor, receiver/dryer and thermal expansion valve and system was converted to R134. Blows cold and nice. I also changed the wheels to Torque Thrust D's 15 x 7's with brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A's size P255/60R15 for the rear and P245/60R15 for the front. The tires are new and have less than 200 miles on them. Battery is new as is the Master cyl.

Car is in excellent mechanical condition. All gauges, lights, turn signals, idiot lights, horn, wipers, A/C, Power brakes, charging system, P/S, work excellent. Only thing that doesn't
work is the dash clock. The car starts and runs smooth, the choke works exactly as it should. Trans shifts firmly with no lag at all. Steering and handling characteristics are
fine. The brakes are excellent and in fairly new condition. The disc brakes are a huge improvement over the drums and the car stops straight.

The paint and body are in good driver quality condition. The paint was done in 2002 and the car has been stored inside for most of the time since then, though it has
spent some years outside. Some chips are there, there is a half dollar sized bubble in front of the drivers side rear wheel and a very small rust spot at the trailing
edge of the drivers quarter. Hood has a medium sized chip with delamentation of the clear coat. Passenger side door jamb has some cracked and missing paint in a small
area.

All in all the body and paint are very presentable and shows well. but please remember this is a 11 year old paint job that has seen some weather and highway use.
The interior appears to be the original and I haven't really done anything to it. There are no tears or rips in the upholstery, the carpet shows well, and there are
no cracks in the dash pad. Over all the interior is decent, simply appears a bit worn due to it's age. The convertible top is excellent. It raises and lowers with no issues
no leaks in the hydraulic system. The cloth top is very nice and looks good as does the rear glass window.

All of the pictures shown were taken either this past week or within the last year.

Auto Show Notebook: Legendary Continental name inspired Lincoln's designers

Thu, Apr 2 2015

What's in a name? A lot for the Continental concept, and it gave Lincoln designers a sense of purpose as they styled the brand's upcoming flagship sedan. "The moment that we told them, it was amazing," Lincoln president Kumar Galhotra said. "They totally got it." "It" is cutting-edge technology wrapped in stately, large-sedan design. It's a nod to Lincoln's storied past, but a signpost for where the brand is heading. Though the Continental name dates to the late 1930s, Lincoln designers avoided making the concept overtly retro. "You can't let it pull yourself back too far in history, but you've got to design a car that lives up to the name," Galhotra said. Speaking to Autoblog on the floor of the New York Auto Show where the Continental formally debuted Wednesday, the Lincoln president reiterated that the car is on track to launch in 2016. It will compete against the Audi A6, Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series and other large luxury sedans. After its debut, the concept in New York will fly to China – another critical market for Lincoln – for display there. It will be replaced in New York by a prototype without an interior. The Continental is the latest high profile play by Lincoln to raise its image with consumers, who have either ignored or forgotten about it amid steep competition in the luxury sector from German and Japanese brands and a potentially resilient Cadillac. Lincoln sales are essentially flat compared with 2014 through the first quarter of this year, with total volume of 21,478 units. The middling start to 2015 comes on the heels of nearly 16-percent sales growth last year spurred by the launch of the MKC and the prominent signing of Matthew McConaughey to star in Lincoln advertisements. Other News, Notes & Quotes Speaking of names, Chevrolet did its homework before deciding to proceed with "Malibu" for its new generation of midsize cars. "We went out and researched it," said Alan Batey, president of General Motors North America. "People actually like the name 'Malibu,'" he said. Admittedly, the current Malibu has struggled in the marketplace against entrenched competitors, Batey said, but he's optimistic its awareness and historical value are assets to the dramatically redesigned sedan."The name's strong," he said. Meanwhile, in other Chevy news, the brand kicked off a new marketing campaign, "Real People, Not Actors" Wednesday. It will show consumers interacting with Chevys and their spontaneous reactions to the vehicles.

Watch Evo pick its 2015 Car of the Year in this epic video

Mon, Dec 7 2015

With just a few days left in 2015, it's the perfect time to check out Evo's annual Car of the Year test to determine the greatest performance vehicle of the last 12 months. The writers' picks for the 11 finalists spanned a breadth of engaging models and included: Peugeot 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport, Lamborghini Aventador SV, Seat Leon Cupra Sub8, McLaren 675LT, Porsche 991 GT3 RS, Porsche Cayman GT4, Honda Civic Type R, Ferrari 488 GTB, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Lotus Evora 400, and Mercedes-AMG GT S. For the venue to test the mettle of these performance machines, Evo stuck close to home this year and visited the twisting roads at the beautiful north coast of Scotland. Racing brothers Marino and Dario Franchitti also came along for the ride to provide two more voices in the competitive challenge to determine a winner. Evo's video explains why each model deserves to be among such rarified company but doesn't gloss over their faults either. There can be only one winner, though. We don't want to spoil it, so check out the clip for magnificent views of these performance machines through the Scottish countryside.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

Sat, 24 Aug 2013

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
