Getting sick and tired of the up and down ridiculous gas prices??  With the price of gas skyrocketing yet again, there's no better time to buy an alternative fuel vehicle.  Here is your chance to own a hard to find 1999 Chevy Cavalier CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) Bifuel sedan.  Save big $$$ with natural gas, while helping clean up the environment.  This is a factory CNG package, NOT an aftermarket retrofit.  This is a bifuel and runs on Gasoline or CNG.  This was an expensive factory option.  Being sold with NO RESERVE so the high bid wins it!!

I am a CSA certified CNG cylinder inspector.  I have been dealing in CNG vehicles for 7+ years.  All cylinders are inspected for damage in accordance with 3yr/36,000 mile guidelines so bid with confidence.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions as I am always happy to assist.  631-871-3459 (Seth).

CNG Specs:

Compressed Natural Gas Tank Capacity: Approximately 6.9 US Gallons Gasoline Equivalent(GGE) @3600 psi 70 degrees F (21 degrees C). Average CNG range approx 120-160 miles.  Exp. date1/2014

·  This hard to find 1999 Chevy Cavalier Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and gasoline bifuel hybrid Sedan.  Equipped with the reliable and highly efficient 2.2L  SOHC engine and automatic transmission.  This is a one owner fleet maintained former fleet vehicle.  This was mostly highway driven and used in a rural area.  BEWARE of people selling vehicles with untested/unfilled CNG systems.  CNG system functions.  This vehicle has been filled with CNG and test driven 50+ miles.  This car is super economical to drive with CNG priced under $1.00 a gal in many areas.  State tax credit still available (Utah and other states that offer tax credits).  Please read complete description below for vehicle condition including service and defects.

What is CNG???

Compressed Natural Gas or CNG, is one of nature's best untapped energy sources.  Unlike fossil fuels, it is constantly produced by the earth and can also me synthesized through chemical processes.  Cyber_lot. The technology has been around for decades but until recently has been kept in the closet by big oil!  It is one of the fastest growing alernative fuel sources and unlike biodiesel and ethanol (E85), is a viable replacement for pertroleum.  Within the next 10 years 90% of gov't fleets will be CNG and civilian population will follow over the next 20 yrs.

Why should I buy a CNG/Bi Fuel Vehicle?

  • SAVE MONEY!  CNG is about 1/3 less than reguar unleaded and more stable in price.  AS LOW AS 99 CENTS PER GAL IN SOME AREAS!
  • CNG burns with practically no emissions compared to petroleum fuel so each mile you drive helps the environment....THINK GREEN
  • CNG is safer (less volatile) than gasoline as it has a higher ignition temp, 1200 deg vs 800 deg.
  • CNG poses little if any environment risk of contamination and in the event of an accident where tanks are breached, it evaporates into the air with no spill Cyber_lot
  • CNG fill stations are growing more and more each day.  Check the links below for fill station locations across the US.
  • You can fill up at home using a Phil Fuelmaker device if you have a natural gas line.  Cyber_lot No more trips to the gas station.  Tax deductible.
  • Most states allow you to drive solo in the HOV lane.
  • CNG is not corrosive like gasoline and wears MUCH easier on a motor.  Most CNG fueled engines reguire oil changes less frequently and sparkplugs last almost forever.  Overall engine life is usually significantly extended.  Cyber_lot
  • Unlike hybird electic/gas cars, there are no costly batteries ($6000) to replace
  • Unlike hybird electric vehicles, the CNG drivetrain is the same as the gasoline counterpart and can be serviced by most mechanics.  Cyber_lot.  Only the CNG fuel system requires specially trained service technicians.
  • There may be tax credits/deducations available for CNG vehicle owners and for the purchase of a Phil Fuelmaker (check with IRS and state tax authorities)
  • Be the first person in your town to sport a CNG ride.  Cyber_lot Almost always a conversation starter when you open the trunk!

Condition

Drivetrain

Engine starts up and runs strong.  79k  mostly highway miles. NO knocks, NO smoke, NO dripping engine leaks.  Transmission shifts into and through all gears.  Under hard acceleration, transmission will periodically jump into gear a little hard.  I've only observed this after driving for awhile and in warmer weather.  Shifts smoothly between gears when driving.  Has proper acceleration and cruises nicely at highway speed.  The 2.2L  is one of the most durable and efficient 4cyl engines GM produced and should easily last 300K+ miles with proper maintenance.  This was a fleet maintained vehicle with regular servicing, including oil changes at proper intervals.  One of the rubber motor mounts is worn.  Recent Service: new double platinum spark plugs, new spark plug wires, air filter.

Exterior

Paint has most of its shine and glistens in the sun as you can see.  No major dents or rot on the body.  The body is overall very straight as the images show.  There are some dings, scratches, and minor blemishes here and there.  There are a few spots on the roof where the clear coat has peeled (see pic).  There are some marks in the paint on the lower part of the trunk lid beneath the Chevy emblem where a decal was removed.  This is a decent specimen for being a fleet vehicle as you can see.  Please keep in mind this is not a showroom new but in decent condition for the year.

Interior

Interior is in good condition with minor to average wear.  Seats and floor are not ripped or shredded. The plastic vent trim has a crack (common factory defect).  Inside is fresh and clean.  A/C worked and blew cold when charged but has a slow leak and loses refrigerant after a few days.  No visible or detectable leaks.  Most likely an o-ring on one of the connections.  ABS light is on, most likely due to a faulty wheel sensor or connection.

Wheels and Tires

·  Tires have approx 50%+ tread remaining. Full set of factory GM wheel covers.

CNG System

I have fueled up with CNG.  Starts and runs on CNG.  At idle, car sometimes stalls when on CNG mode only.  Drives ok.  Only stalls at low rpm/idle.  Aside from that, everything else looks to be in order and system/tank holds pressure as it should.

I have test driven this vehicle over 50 miles and it should have no problem going anywhere.  I have assessed the condition to the best of my ability but this is a used vehicle and additional repairs may me required.  As I recommend to all my customers, you should have your mechanic look over any newly purchased vehicle before extensive use.  I have tried to list as many details about this vehicle as I can, including known defects.  There may be deficiencies that I am not aware of so buyers are encouraged to inspect in person.  Repairs may be required.  This was previously a fleet/lease vehicle and may have greater wear and tear than private vehicles.  Vehicle is otherwise sold as-is and where is with no warranty express of implied.  If you are local I encourage and welcome you to come down and test drive the car for yourself or have an independent inspection completed PRIOR to bidding.  There will be no price adjustments or cancellation of sale for failure to do so.  I am happy to answer any questions so feel free to e-mail me or call.

·  Payment Details

A non-refundable deposit in the amount of $500.00 must be made via PayPal within 24 hrs of auction's close.  Balance to be paid within 3 days via certified/cashier's check from a verifiable institution, US postal money order (no other's will be accepted due to counterfeit MO's going around), or cash (in person only, DO NOT mail cash).  A document/prep fee of $150.00 will be added to the winning bid price.  If you require documents to be mailed please add $20 to final price for overnight service.  Item must be picked up within 10 days of auction's close unless you make other arrangements with me.  If not, buyer agrees to pay $20/day storage.  Sorry but I can not have vehicles sitting here for weeks or months.  IF DEPOSIT IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN 24 HRS OR PAYMENT IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN 3 DAYS, VEHICLE WILL BE RELISTED OR SOLD TO NEXT BIDDER.  Cyber_lot.

Shipping

Shipping is at the expense and responsibility of the winning bidder.  If you require shipping, I am happy to assist.  Shipping for vehicles is approximately $900-1000 for west coast, $500-600 for southeast, $800-1000 for southwest, and $800 for midwest.  These rates represent average prices and may change with fuel costs.  Vehicle is located in Long Island, NY, 11713.  Cyber_lot.  If you wish to fly and drive, I can pick you up at the area airport (Long Island Macarthur, ISP) or the train station (LIRR-Ronkonkoma).

Legal Info

Please only bid if you have the funds available and intend to complete the transaction.  Ebay is a great place and you guys are wonderful but the occasional fraudulent bidder ruins it for everyone.  Non-paying bidders will be reported to eBay as well as the appropriate authorities as interfering in interstate commerce is a federal offense.  If you have negative feedback please contact me if you wish to bid or your bid(s) will be canceled.  By bidding, you agree to all the terms of this auction.  Item is sold as-is where-is with no warranty or guarantee.  If you are local, feel free to come and inspect the vehicle in person.  Cyber_lot.  I have tried to describe this item as best I can but I am not responsible for any incorrect information regarding specs, condition, undetected problems, etc.  I am happy to answer any and every question so please e-mail prior to bidding as all sales are final.  I reserve the right to end auction early as vehicle is for sale locally.

Cruze Diesel Road Trip reveals the good and bad, but no ugly

Tue, Mar 31 2015

Most of us have strong opinions on diesel-powered cars based on our perceptions of and experience with them. I used to thoroughly dislike oil burners for their noise, smoke and lackluster performance, and the fact that they ran on greasy, smelly stuff that was more expensive than gasoline, could be hard to find and was nasty to get on your hands when refueling. Those negatives, for me, trumped diesel's major positives of big torque for strong acceleration and better fuel economy. Are any of those knocks on diesel still valid today? I'm not talking semis, which continue to annoy me when their operators for some reason almost never shut them down. At any busy truck stop, the air seems always filled with the sound – and sometimes smell Ā– of dozens of big-rig diesels idling endlessly and mindlessly. Or diesel heavy-duty pickups. Those muscular workhorses are far more refined than they once were and burn much less fuel than their gasoline counterparts. But good luck arriving home late at night, or departing early morning, without waking your housemates and neighbors with their clattery racket. No, I'm talking diesel-powered passenger cars, which account for more than half the market in Europe (diesel fuel is cheaper there) yet still barely bump the sales charts in North America. Diesel fuel remains more expensive here, too few stations carry it, and too many Americans remember when diesel cars were noisy, smelly slugs. Also, US emissions requirements make them substantially more expensive to certify, and therefore to buy. But put aside (if you can) higher vehicle purchase and fuel prices, and today's diesel cars can be delightful to drive while delivering much better fuel efficiency than gas-powered versions. So far in the US, all except Chevrolet's compact Cruze Diesel come from German brands, and all are amazingly quiet, visually clean (no smoke) and can be torquey-fun to drive. When a GM Powertrain engineering team set out to modify a tried-and-true GM of Europe turbodiesel four for North American Chevy Cruze compacts, says assistant chief engineer Mike Siegrist, it had a clear target in mind: the Volkswagen Jetta TDI 2.0-liter diesel. And they'll tell you that they beat it in nearly every way. "I believe we have a superior product," he says. "It's powerful, efficient and clean, and it will change perceptions of what a diesel car can be." The 2.0L Cruze turbodiesel pumps out 151 SAE certified horses and 264 pound-feet of torque (at just 2,000 rpm) vs.

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set

Tue, Jul 19 2022

Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, henceĀ  the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950sĀ and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with theĀ American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.

Corvette Stingray Shooting Brake under consideration by Callaway [w/poll]

Mon, 18 Mar 2013

Callaway has released a few renderings of a design study for a shooting brake version of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The company says it wants to create a long-roof version of America's sports car to offer buyers more interior room and a vehicle with "unique style." The company says it will use structural carbon fiber for the new body bits, which suggests the conversion shouldn't add too much more weight to the Corvette. Along with a few mechanical tweaks, the Callaway Corvette Stingray AeroWagon could breeze past the 200 miles per hour barrier.
Provided that they get enough interest, Callaway estimates they will be able to effect the changes on the Chevrolet for around $15,000, and says the conversion work should be available through its network of dealers. You can check out the brief press release below for more information, or head over to the Callaway site to plunk down a deposit - but before you do, we want to know... do you find this C7 wagon interesting? Vote in our poll below, then feel free to leave a few lines in Comments.
