Up for auction is my 1999 Chevy C/K3500, 1-Ton, Crew Cab pick-up truck. I am the 2nd owner- it began its life in Ohio, and has lived in North Georgia and Western North Carolina since 2009.
We operate a small micro-farm, but the kids are off to college and we're down-sizing in all aspects of our lives. This has been a great truck for our family and farm, and I will be sorry to see it go! It has been a workhorse of a vehicle that has served us very well. It has been dependable, solid and although very large, easy to drive. The condition of the truck is consistent with its age, and I am often stopped at random while in town, and asked if I would be willing to sell it; I guess it is a hard combination of size and strength to find! Now, the time has come for me to list it and join the ranks of Honda-drivers...

This is a very basic, heavy-duty pick-up truck; basically a commercial-type vehicle- no bells and whistles on this one! Has always met inspection certification in NC and regular maintenance. There are no major mechanical problems or issues- unless you consider the air-conditioning not working well... Where we live, we really don't need air too often, so not a big deal to us- all the windows roll down! The engine does not leak oil, does not run hot at all, and there are no leaks. The engine smokes just a bit on start-up, but goes away quickly. There is a small squeal from the power-steering unit possibly at start-up, but it goes away after a few minutes. Automatic transmission is strong- never any issues shifting or idling. Long-bed 8-foot (10-foot with the gate down, with sprayed on dura-liner), shift on-the-fly 4-wheel drive (no getting out of the cab), 5.7, gasoline engine. I've used it as a farm truck for about 6 or 7 yrs; bought it used, to pull my horses around, haul gravel, haul hay, feed, dirt, pull tractors and drive in deep snow and on ice. It excels at all of these tasks, and then some, but it's a little rough- like I said, we use it as just a farm truck, but is completely street-legal- no modifications are necessary. There are defects you might expect on a truck of this age- the tailgate is bent and must be opened by pulling on a 'redneck-release' chain (unless you put a new gate on, of course), and there is a small dent in the driver's side rear door, but it is even hard to tell in the pictures. Overall, I'd say the red paint is in fair to good condition for a truck this age, and although I haven't waxed it in a few seasons, she shines up perty good! There is no major rust anywhere on the truck- not deteriorating anywhere on the main body that I can see, except just a bit on the tailgate (see pics), which one would probably want to replace or just take off completely, anyway. All the windows are tinted really dark, and they are ol' fashioned hand-cranks, not power windows. The locks are power-locks, but they don't work; should be a quick fix for someone with know-how. The truck as air-conditioning, but as I mentioned above, it doesn't work well. The fan moves air but there probably is a small leak in the system and it does not blow cold. Heater seems to work fine. There are a few rips/tears in the front seat on the driver's side vinyl bench seat- we've used duct tape to hold it together and it works fine; a bench seat cover would be great and no one would ever know.  The rear seats are also bench- no holes or rips there. All safety/seatbelts are all there, and all work. The rear hitch is heavy-duty and the truck also has power-assist 6-point hookup for pulling multi-axle trailers with brakes. The spare tire is in excellent condition and the jack/crowbar pieces are all there. This model Chevy K3500 was also available in a dual-rear-wheel, but this one is Single Rear Wheel (SRW), and I prefer it over the dually for driving the narrow mountain roads around here. The tires aren't real good; maybe only 10% left, but are 10-ply E-Class and will get you home within a reasonable distance. The last few sets, I've only put used, retreads on it since it gets such little use, for short distances only. The wheels are the stock OEM rims, painted black- no dents; the front brake rotors are new and the brake pads/shoes are relatively new, too and work well here in the mountains- no pulling or thumping. There is a sound system installed, but the front, driver's side door speaker is missing and the head-unit CD function doesn't work. All lights, turn signals, horn, interior and gauge lights all work fine.

I always wanted to keep this truck, and like I said, I'll miss it! I wanted to put a 2 or 3inch lift on the frame for off-road and hunting and continue driving it until the end of it's life, which I'll bet is a longgggg time away. This truck would make someone a good, durable work truck; painting, cement, carpentry, forestry, it can do it all, and for a very reasonable price. The title is clear, and the carfax is good- it has had 2 "events" in its history- the first one right after the original owner backed into a parked car in a parking lot (minor dent repair) and the second when my own son didn't cut the wheel hard enough and a contacted a tree in the driver's side left-rear door (carfax report says passender-side, but that is not accurate). It was claimed and repaired by an authorized body-shop, and also classified as 'minor'. No frame issues- the truck drives straight, although I might suggest you do a front-end alignment after you put some newer tires on it! Between Kelly Blue Book and NADA values, it should go between 5 and 6K, but I'm starting it out much lower, and with NO RESERVE. Wife won't let me wait, and wants to buy another car soon, so this is it- HIGHEST BIDDER WINS!

Corvette Stolen In Detroit Returned To Owner After 33 Years

Wed, Jun 25 2014

A Detroit man had his stolen Corvette returned 33 years after it disappeared while parked on one of Detroit's main drags, according to ABC 7. The last time George Talley saw his 1979 Corvette was on a July day in 1981, when it disappeared from its parking spot on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. He had given up hope of ever seeing his car again, until a phone call from AAA brought his sporty ride home. Authorities had come across a Corvette with a questionable VIN in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When they ran the number Talley's stolen car report came up. The car is still in pretty good shape and only has 47,000 miles on the odometer. Talley wasn't sure how he could get the car back home, but General Motors stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of bringing the 'Vette home. Talley has always had a passion for Detroit-made muscle cars. "I've always liked Corvettes. It was attractive. The ladies like 'em," Talley told ABC 7.

GM cutting Chevy Sonic, Buick Verano production [UPDATE]

Sun, Jan 25 2015

UPDATE: A previous version of this story indicated that Orion Assembly would be idled for seven weeks, from February 16 through April 6. This was incorrect. The factory will instead only be idled for the weeks of February 16 and April 6. The story has been edited to reflect this. General Motors has announced that the factory responsible for the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic will be idled for the weeks of February 16 and April 6, with blame being placed on excess supply. The Orion Assembly plant, about 45 minutes north of GM's Renaissance Center headquarters, employs about 1,800 people, but they'll be given a pair of furloughs as inventories of the sub-compact Sonic and premium compact Verano reach 127 days and 84 days, respectively. That works out to 26,600 Chevys and 9,800 Buicks waiting for buyers. According to Automotive News, the compact Chevy sales bested the industry average in 2014, jumping up nine percent versus the the overall segment's eight-percent gain, while the Buick sedan's sales were down four percent. When asked about the shutdown, a GM spokesman told AN that it will "build to market demand," while also pointing out that the company did not comment on production plans. GM raises 2023 guidance on strong sales, higher profits

Tue, Apr 25 2023

General Motors beat first-quarter profit estimates and raised its full-year earnings and cash-flow guidance after vehicle demand at the start of the year surpassed expectations. Its shares rose in premarket trading. GM made $2.21 a share in adjusted profit in the first quarter, compared to a consensus forecast of $1.72 a share. Revenue rose 11% to $39.99 billion, it said Tuesday, which was more than the $39.24 billion analysts expected. The stronger results stem from rising sales in the US, even in the face of higher interest rates and inflation. GM executives said demand was strong enough to revise 2023 guidance upward, boosting profit estimates for the year by $500 million to between $11 billion and $13 billion. “We did it with strong production and inventory discipline and consistent pricing,” GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said on a call with journalists. “All in all, weÂ’re feeling confident about 2023.” The Detroit automaker raised per-share full-year guidance to between $6.35 and $7.35, up from $6 to $7 a share, and said free cash flow would also increase by $500 million to a range of $5.5 billion to $7.5 billion.  GMÂ’s shares pared a gain of as much as 4.4% before the start of regular trading Tuesday, rising 3.5% to $35.50 as of 6:55 a.m. in New York. The stock was up 1.9% for the year as of the close on Monday.  North American Strength The automakerÂ’s sales were particularly strong in North America, where first-quarter earnings rose before interest and taxes rose to $3.6 billion. Vehicle sales rose 18% to 707,000 in the region. Jacobson said the company originally expected to sell 15 million vehicles in the US this year, slightly less than the 15.5 million annualized rate automakers foresaw in the first quarter. North American demand was enough to offset a weak performance in China, GMÂ’s second-largest market. The automaker continues to struggle in the country, where its vehicle sales fell 25% to 462,000 vehicles in the quarter. Profits from its joint ventures in the market slumped 65% to $83 million.  The market has struggled overall in the wake of Covid-19 restrictions and foreign automakers have had to overcome a growing preference for Chinese brands by competing on price, squeezing profit margins. The situation in China probably wonÂ’t significantly improve until the second half of the year, according to Jacobson. GM remains on target to sell 150,000 electric vehicles this year, the CFO said.
