I bought this 1964 comet off of the original owner. He had it painted at a Maaco some years ago and this is a Maaco blue…he did the body work not Maaco. The original color was red. The body work was done to make the front and rear end caps seamless. There are cracks starting to form in the seams if you look close…I tried to take pictures but hard to see…they aren't really noticeable unless you are looking for it. He also removed all of the badging. He also removed some chrome around the rear hardtop posts and added filler (see pics). The hood was made seamless where the hood ornament used to be and the filler is cracking there also. The car appears very rust free with the exception to the left rear fender well…there are some bubbles in the paint (see picture). The car has very nice chrome and side trim. The car is very straight. The car was originally a 260 car with a 3 speed on the column with a bench seat. IT NOW HAS A 289 4BBL WITH DUAL EXHAUST AND A 3 SPEED ON THE FLOOR WITH BUCKET SEATS FROM A 1964 THUNDERBIRD. I drive the car often and start it once a week. The car has multiple oil leaks with the main leak being at the back of the oil pan. I don't know if it is the pan or rear main. The motor does not knock or smoke. The drivers seat has some tears in it which I have covered with a gorilla glue tape. The passenger seat seams are getting stretched. It could benefit from both seats being redone. The glass is all intact. The lights work and has the original radio with an added FM receiver that is pretty vintage. The tires have good tread but are older and wouldn't trust long distances with them. The rims are steel and all chrome. The headliner is ok and intact (definite driver quality). The carburetor probably needs to be replaced because it idles fast after it is warmed up (normal idle on start up). It still runs fine on the road but would benefit from a new carb. This is a hardtop comet ( fastback ) which in my opinion looks much better than the post cars. When all the windows are rolled down it feels like a convertible. This car would be a great A/FX clone or B/FX clone. These 1964 comets enjoyed a rich racing history that included Drag racing and road races to include the African Safari race. These cars also shined during the 100,000 mile durability run. These cars are great for car shows and different than the ordinary mustang. I want to be up front about the car so you know what you are getting. This is a driver as is and a good looking car but has some things going on. It could be driven to any car show as is and draw a crowd. It has the original california black plates. Please email me with any questions or additional pictures. Sold as is where is. I am not sure how far it can be driven…I have driven it 30 + miles without problems but not sure about hundreds of miles so I would say it needs to be trailered and buyer is responsible for shipping.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

Preposed class-action lawsuit targets 'defective' MyFord Touch

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

A national law firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit whose presupposition is that MyFord Touch is defective. Specifically, the complaint states that the system - as well as the MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch clones - often freeze, fail to respond to voice or touch commands and have issues connecting to mobile phones.
According to Hagens Berman managing partner Steve Berman, MyFord Touch is a theoretically "brilliant idea" that falls short in actual execution. Said Berman in a press release, "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Other MFT issues enumerated within the 41-page filing include problems controlling the window defroster, rear-view camera and navigation system. The suit maintains that Ford is aware of the problem but has yet to submit a workable and acceptable solution to MFT customers. Scroll down if you'd like to read the full press release.

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.
