1971 Mercury Comet Base 5.0l on 2040-cars

I am selling my 71 Mercury Comet GT, this car has a 302 bored .60 over and is putting out over 300 hp. It was set up to drag race and had times of about 12.5 seconds in the quarter mile.

9" rear end, subframe connectors and traction bars are installed also.

It is streetable and I have 1971 License plates on it. The car is an automatic on the floor with a line loc on it. It runs STRONG and drives good, I just don't use it and could use the cash for other things. It does need some cosmetic improvements but is a nice street car as it sits. I have an original set of front bucket seats for the car that would go with it. It has a racing bucket for the driver seat right now and another bucket on the passenger side. The carburetor was rebuilt last year. The battery is new and is mounted in the trunk.

Mileage unknown and odometer and speedometer are not hooked up, fuel gauge does not work.  Tachometer is inoperative, worked when I got car, but I think it shorted out when positive battery cable hit frame on a bare spot.

NO power steering or brakes, and has four wheel drums on it.  No heat or AC, lower dash has been removed for racing purposes to reduce weight, I do not have parts.

When was the last time you saw one of these for sale. Tires are great and I have an extra set that will also be included, along with a couple of boxes of spare parts and other stuff I got with the car.

Thanks for looking.

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
