2000 Volvo V70 Xc Loaded, Low Mileage on 2040-cars
Buffalo, New York, United States
I purchased this car in 2000. My understanding is that it was built in Belgium for the Quebec market. Therefore the previous owner had the odometer, etc., converted from metric to English units. The only other difference I've noticed from its origins is that the headlights are always on when the motor is running, evidently a requirement of Quebec law. I kind of like that feature, so I've retained it. I probably would have kept this car until either it or I died, except for the following turn of events: Last July, my wife's car was totaled in an accident, and she was injured. She had to drop everything to get herself healed and find a replacement car. Eventually she decided to order a 2014 Subaru Outback, but when it arrived, she felt that the leather-covered seats were not as comfortable as the cloth-covered seats in the demo. Weeks later, she still could not get comfortable in it. But I did find it comfortable. So I told her, go find a car you like and I'll take the Subaru. And so she did. She's leasing a 2014 Volvo XC, and so now she's happy again. Therefore I'm happy, but I now have the Subaru and need to sell my old Volvo. It's really a good car. Come see it and take a test drive. 12-year-old golfer wins Volvo for hole-in-one [w/video]
Wed, 27 Aug 2014Some people just have all of the luck. Natasha Oon, a 12-year-old girl in Malaysia, was recently attending the 40th RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship at the Royal Selangor Golf Club with her parents. On a whim, she teed up a shot with her eight iron and scored a hole-in-one. That would have been impressive for a girl her age by any standards, but she didn't see the sign that said making the shot also won her a new Volvo XC60 T5. Not a bad prize for a tween who won't be allowed to drive for at least a few years.
So what does any good 12-year-old do with a CUV? Give it to her parents of course. According to website Paultan, she plans on giving the crossover to her mom and told her, "this is the car that you will use to drive me to school every day." Scroll down to watch video of Oon receiving the oversized key to the Volvo with her family and a brief interview with her about what she was thinking when she found out she won a car for sinking a fantastic shot.
Volvo XC40 delayed because it's too big for its own good?
Thu, 11 Jul 2013As fuel prices rise and greenhouse gases poke holes in the ozone, big, gas-guzzling sports utility vehicles are becoming less popular as smaller, cleaner vehicles, such as crossovers, gain market share. Volvo is late to the small crossover party, though it wants to build the XC40 crossover to compete with the Land Rover Evoque. The only problem with that, Autocar reports, is that a suitable (read: small enough) platform for it is up to five years away, despite a hopeful photos of it in testing guise.
Volvo is currently developing a new platform, called SPA (Scaleable Platform Architecture), to underpin its next-generation of vehicles, such as the 2014 XC60 pictured above and the S60 sedan, which is likely the smallest vehicle that would be able to use the new platform. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be a quick fix for the gaping hole in Volvo's lineup, and Geely, the Chinese budget car manufacturer that owns Volvo, is reportedly preparing to launch a mid-market brand that may or may not be sold outside of China.
Can't Swedish car manufacturers catch a break?
Volvo S60, XC60 caught testing with freshened faces
Thu, 24 Jan 2013Neither the Volvo S60 nor the Volvo XC60 are that old, but the Swedish automaker is wasting no time ensuring that two of its most popular products don't get stagnant on the market, a fate that has befallen some of the other products it offers.
Even though these two models helped usher in a new styling direction for Volvo not too long ago, the modest facelifts on tap for both looks like they will bring both products closer to the styling of the handsome overseas V40 hatchback.
Aside from the pointier front end, the XC60 crossover is also getting a revised rear fascia that now includes integrated dual exhaust outlets. The shots of the S60 show us that the sedan's interior will be getting minor tweaks as well, including reshaped front seats and a new shift lever.
