Vehicle Description:

This is a 7-Day NO RESERVE auction for a 1998 Volvo V70XC Cross Country AWD Turbo Wagon!  HIGH BIDDER WINS!

Rare Third Row Seating!!  Check out the pictures & video!

This Volvo runs & drives extremely well!  You would never guess the mileage by looking or driving this very nice automobile.  This Volvo was traded it at a new-car dealership in NW Ohio and I purchased the Volvo from them.  I have personally driven this vehicle for the last 100 miles and it is very nice!  The inline 5-cylinder turbo engine runs strong with plenty of power.  The automatic transmission shifts smooth with no issues at all.  This Volvo is loaded with all the options like power/heated leather seats, power windows and locks, cruise control, keyless entry, and so much more.  Zero accident history per autocheck!  Mechanically, this Volvo is in good condition.  Engine & Transmission are 100%.  I have not noticed any leaks on the ground where this Volvo has been sitting.  The brakes stop the car smooth and straight.  While driving the steering & suspension components appears to be in good shape - particular buyers may note a little suspension rattle when hitting bumps but still extremely smooth and nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age/miles.  The 4 matching Michelin tires have TONS of tread remaining and the vehicle drives straight down the road. No vibrations at all when driving.  No driveline noise or vibrations at all.  Turbo spools up with plenty of power.  Overall, this vehicle drives extremely nicely for its age and mileage.  All the power options work like they should including the power seats, sunroof, mirrors, windows, etc.  The automatic climate control works and this Volvo blows air on all blower levels and wherever you want it to (vents, defroster, etc).  The AC is blowing cold, but for full disclosure when I acquired the vehicle it was warm and I recharged it -- it has held up for a week but there may be a small leak somewhere and the a/c compressor is a little noisy when engaged.  The Volvo is equipped with AM/FM/CD/CASSETTE - the radio powers up great and sounds very good.  The check engine light is on (code P0108 - MAP sensor high) but there is no noticeable performance issues.  There are no other dash warning lights illuminated except for the service light comes on for 90 seconds when the vehicle is started - this is a light that comes on at regular intervals just to remind you to service your vehicle (it does NOT indicate malfunction) and can be reset.  The dashboard informational display works and all settings read appropriately.  All of the gauges read properly and there are no abnormal readings. The engine runs smooth with no lack of power at all.   The keyless entry system appears to be working properly with the key fob.  Extremely nice running and driving vehicle!  Cosmetically -- this car looks in excellent shape. The exterior paint is in excellent condition.  There is no visible rust on the body.  All glass is in-tact and in good condition with the exception of a small crack below the sight line in the windshield (see pics).  The alloy wheels are in exceptionally good condition.   The interior is in very extremely nice condition with no rips or major discoloration.  OEM floor mats are included although in used condition.  Check out the pictures - they speak for themselves!  I have tried to capture both the positives and the flaws in those pictures.  There is a minor dent just in front of the passenger side rear wheel in the dog-leg, there is slight cracking on the interior wood grain below the shifter, and some of the leather inserts on the doors are no longer tight, (see pics). These are very minor imperfections that are consistent with the vehicle age.  Overall, this Volvo shows extremely nice and will be a vehicle that you can be proud of!

I have tried my best to represent this vehicle accurately and to the best of my abilities.  Earning and keeping a 100% positive feedback rating is very important to me!  I purchase most of my vehicles as trade-ins from new car dealerships as traded. I test drive each vehicle on the expressway and around town for at least 20 miles, often over 100 miles, and use that experience to represent the vehicle to you on eBay.  Please remember that you are buying a used vehicle and that a certain amount of wear/use/flaws are to be expected on any used vehicle -- including this one.  You are welcome and encouraged to come check out this vehicle for yourself and take it for a test drive before the auction ends.  I have included over 50 pictures and a YouTube video - please check out them out.   Feel free to email/call me (Michael) at 734-717-3653 with specific questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Auction Details & Payment Information:

Daimler and Volvo could jointly develop internal combustion engines

Sun, Jan 5 2020

BERLIN — Luxury German carmaker Daimler and Volvo, owned by China's Geely, are considering cooperating to cut the costs of developing combustion engines, a magazine reported on Sunday, citing unnamed company sources. The Automobilwoche weekly cited a Volvo manager as saying there were initial talks with Daimler, but no concrete plans, while a company spokesman said it was too early to talk about firm projects, although it was not excluding anybody. A Daimler spokesman said the company's cooperation with Geely, which owns a 10% stake in the German carmaker, was developing in a positive way, but declined to comment further. Global tariffs, accelerated by a trade war between China and the United States, as well as higher investment requirements for electric and autonomous vehicles, are forcing carmakers to seek new ways to cut and share costs. In October, Volvo said it would merge its engine development and manufacturing assets with those of Geely, creating a division to supply in-house brands and also potentially others with next-generation combustion and hybrid engines. Automobilwoche said this new division would start operating by the end of March, which could be a possible starting point for cooperation with Daimler, while a further step could be a partnership to develop electric power trains. Geely and Daimler have said they plan to build the next generation of Smart electric cars in China through a joint venture and the two companies are also cooperating on a premium ride-hailing service in China. Geely bought Volvo Cars in 2010 from Ford, allowing the Swedish brand to operate on an arms-length basis. But in recent years, it has deepened cooperation between the two brands. Volvo already supplies engines to some Geely-branded vehicles, sharing technology through Geely's Lynk brand. Both companies share and develop common vehicle platforms. Junkyard Gem: 1969 Volvo 145 Wagon

Sun, Oct 24 2021

Volvo managed to sell the 1940s-design PV544 and its 1950s-design Amazon descendant all the way into the mid-to-late 1960s in the United States, but those iconic machines were replaced here by one that began a line of even more iconic Volvos: the 140 Series. Starting with the 1968 model year, the 140 became available in the United States as a two-door sedan (the 142), a four-door sedan (the 144 and 164), and a station wagon (the 145). These rear-wheel-drive, brick-shaped cars later evolved into the 200 Series and its heirs, with the very last of the breed appearing here in the form of the 1998 S90/V90. That's a lot of history all wrapped up in one vehicle, and so I was pleased to find this 145 in a Denver-area car graveyard earlier this month. This car rolled out of Goteborg with a gleaming coat of Morkgron (dark green) paint and, according to this build tag, was built to California specifications. At some point, it made its way to Colorado. Very few US-market cars had six-digit odometers prior to the middle 1980s, but Volvo felt optimistic about their cars' longevity (at a time when reaching the magical 100,000-mile mark was something that rarely happened with non-Mercedes-Benz vehicles) and so now we can see that this car made it well past 200k miles. The 2.0-liter pushrod four-cylinder engine in this car can trace its ancestry back to the Amazons, P1800s, and PV544s of the early 1960s, and it was rated at 115 horsepower. A six-cylinder version of the 140 sedan, known as the 164, could be purchased here as well (though it had few American takers). But wait— what's that Detroit-looking two-barrel carburetor doing on an engine that's supposed to have a Stromberg 175? Yes, it's a GM-spec Rochester clone built at the ancient Bay City Plant (now known as GM Powertrain) in Michigan. Earlier Volvos came with a pair of British-made Skinner Union sidedrafts, which could be pretty painful to keep working right, but perhaps even the less-oddball Stromberg proved too much hassle for whoever installed this carb (which was meant to go on engines with much more displacement than a Volvo B20). Transmission choices in the 1969 140: a four-on-the-floor manual or a three-speed automatic. This car has the manual. The interior is pretty thrashed, as is usually the case with the 140s I find during my junkyard explorations.

Volvo eying return to 100k US sales to ensure dealer profitability

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Struggling Volvo may be on a verge of a renaissance thanks to the forthcoming completion of its lauded concept car trilogy, new Drive-E engine family and much-discussed SPA modular platform. Its nascent renewal is mostly being financed by $11-billion in funding from its Chinese parent company, Geely, and if it all goes right, Volvo hopes to sell 100,000 cars a year in the States by 2016. That milestone is vital, because it would ensure Volvo's US dealer network is profitable, according to Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson.
In a new Ward's Auto story, Samuelsson notes that his company is launching a slate of fresh products in the coming years, including the new-to-the-US V60 wagon and mid-cycle updates for its S60 sedan and XC60 crossover. But the most important new vehicle will be the recently spied XC90 that is expected to be unveiled just before the end of this year. Samuelsson is also looking at future vehicles for the US, including replacements for the S80 and V70. The V40 is also planned for the US, but not until the next generation, according to the Volvo CEO.
Of course, it's going to take a lot to reach 100,000 US sales in three years. Volvo sold just 61,233 units here in 2013, and according to WardsAuto, Volvo hasn't sold 100,000 cars in the US since 2007. To reach its goal, Volvo's stateside business will need to grow sales by about 40 percent.
