1998 Volvo V70 GLT
| We are pleased to present this very nice 1998 Volvo V70 GLT. There are several things that make this car quite special, and I'll try to make sure that I list all of them for those that are not quite as familiar with these Volvos. These 98-00 V70s are developing quite a following among our customers, and we are constantly having people asking us to find nice examples of them (because of our reputation as a seller of volvos of this vintage). We often come across them, but rarely in the fantastic condition of this particular one. 1998 is by far the best year for these cars. 1998 was the last year for the cable throttle. The 1999 and newer models have an electronic drive-by-wire throttle system which was extremely problematic and troublesome. Additionally, 1998 is the final year for the distributor-based ignition system which makes maintenance quite a bit less expensive as it has conventional spark plug wires, along with a distributor cap and rotor, rather than an electronic ignition system. Also, 1998s use the 4 speed automatic transmission which has been known to be virtually bulletproof. In fact, the engine and transmission configuration in this car will have no problem eating all of the miles you throw at it. We have seen several of these with 300, 400, and even 500k miles! Among those who know these cars well, 1998 is the year that is most desirable. Now, on top of all of the things that make the 1998 V70s special, this is also the GLT model which is quite rare. It gives you the reliable and powerful low-pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine along with front wheel drive. The all wheel drive models, though excellent in winter weather, have fairly high-maintenance all wheel drive systems. The GLT gives you the best of both worlds in that it has the turbo engine without the all wheel drive. The front wheel drive is also assisted with TRACS traction control which helps prevent wheel spin on slippery surfaces like snow and ice. It also has a winter mode for the transmission which starts the car out in second gear to prevent wheel spin. This car is a ONE OWNER vehicle. It has been owned by the same family since it was brand new in 1998. One owner cars are almost always very well cared for because the person who bought it paid well over $30,000 for this car, and they are protecting that investment. We have a fairly extensive service history for this car, and the carfax shows no accident history whatsoever. The other AWESOME thing about this car is that it has the very rare third row seat. That seat makes this car a 7 Passenger vehicle, and allows you to have the seating capacity of an SUV while still having the handling, performance, and gas mileage of a car. The interior of this V70 is in very good condition. In fact, overall, this is one of the nicest interiors we've ever seen in one of these cars. The arena tan leather seats are in nearly perfect condition for the car's age with no tears and virtually no cracking. They're still very soft, and feel great. They're also heated for your comfort. Everything in the interior works. Even both cup holders aren't broken! The car has a fancy upgraded stereo system that includes and ipod connector in the glove box. It's easy to use, and sounds excellent. It also has a power moonroof. The previous owner of this car was definitely a non-smoker. These cars don't even come with cigarette lighters, just power outlets. There is a cup holder that accommodates two beverages. This Volvo has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags. The side airbags are part of a system called SIPS which stands for "Side Impact Protection System." This is a combination of high-strength door beams, specially designed door openings, and side airbags, which keeps the passengers safe in the event of a side impact. Because it has the climate package, it does have heated front seats, as well as heated exterior mirrors. The rear seats fold flat (both the second and third row seats), and the passenger front seat also folds down for carrying very long cargo. The exterior of this V70 is in remarkably good condition for the year and miles, and is black stone in color. The outside of the car literally doesn't have a single door ding, and is very free of scratches. There are some scratches on the corners of the bumpers from parking, but they're not very deep, and don't stand out too much. There are also some light scratches on the rear bumper from loading things in and out of the cargo area. The car has had only one owner since it was new, this owner serviced the car exceptionally well. The timing belt service has been completed.
The tires are all in nice shape with excellent tread life remaining. The brakes are in good shape and the car stops as it should. The legendary 2.4 Liter low pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine runs flawlessly and is very smooth. The transmission also operates properly. It's very smooth, while still handling well. All of the car's accessories work including the power windows and moonroof. These cars rarely have mechanical problems. |
This car includes a 3 Month 3000 Mile powertrain warranty at no additional charge. The warranty can be used at any repair shop in the United States, no matter where you live. This warranty covers the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. This is in place in order to provide peace of mind when purchasing a car via the internet. Additionally, this warranty can be adjusted to cover nearly every component on the car, and can be extended up to four years and unlimited mileage. Contact us for details on this affordable upgrade in coverage. In many cases, it is more efficient and economical to have your car shipped to your home or office. There are various options. We have a shipping broker with whom we work that is one of the best in the business, and takes care of every aspect of the shipping process. Additionally, if you're looking for a more economical option, you can get a quote at www.uship.com. If you'd prefer to pick up your new car in person, we offer complimentary shuttle service from the Erie International Airport (ERI), as well as the Erie Pennsylvania Amtrak, Greyhound, and Megabus stations. Purchasing a car online can definitely allow you, our customer, to get a fantastic deal on exactly the car for which you've been looking. This method is one of the best things to happen in the history of the used car business, because you are no longer limited to the small selection of cars offered by your local car dealerships. With affordable shipping to anywhere in the world, it is now easier than ever to find exactly the car you want at a price you like. Since you're bidding, or making an offer, on a car which you may have not seen in person, it is important that a level of trust be established between you, our customer, and us, the dealership. This is why we post between 30 and 60 high-resolution images of every car we sell on eBay. We pride ourselves in having the most detailed, highest resolution images on eBay, and we use the finest photography equipment in order to catch even the smallest details of the cars that we sell. In addition, the description above provides a comprehensive walk-around of the car including the interior, exterior, and mechanical systems. We even will fill you in on any previous maintenance that we've performed. Regardless, all cars that we sell have been thoroughly checked for safety by our in-house master technician. In addition, we road-test every car we sell very extensively before offering it. If there are any issues with the car that are present, they will be mentioned in the auction. Because we road test the cars extensively, it is possible that the car may have more miles on it than when the auction was listed. We always encourage you to come check out the car in person before bidding or making an offer. If you are too far away to do this, there are several inspection services that can review the car, or we can take the car to a local garage of your choice for a pre-purchase inspection.
Please note that a $250 deposit within 24 hours of the end of the auction. This deposit can be made by contacting us directly and can be paid by credit or debit card over the phone. This allows us to speak with you person-to-person which allows us to fill you in on the process and fine details of the transaction, as well as lets you know that we are real people who are committed to making the process of purchasing your new car as easy and painless as possible. Buying a car should be fun and exciting, not a chore. The balance is due within 7 days via
Certified Check, Money Order, or bank wire transfer. We can also accept credit cards and personal checks for full payment with prior authorization. Simply contact us before bidding or making your offer to let us know that you plan on paying with one of these methods so that we can let you know about additional terms that apply.
Non-paying buyers will be reported to eBay. We charge a $255 dealer services fee for all transactions. This fee covers any additional paperwork service, overnighting of paperwork, and dealer prep. We can provide a temporary cardboard plate for out of state customers at no charge. Pennsylvania residents will need to pay sales tax between 6% and 7% depending upon your county of residence. There are also Pennsylvania fees for the registration, title, and license plate (unless you bring your own plate to transfer).
Inexpensive used cars are not at all the same as a brand new car, or certified pre-owned vehicle. They are in no way flawless, or perfect. As noted above, we try our absolute best to disclose any issues which may be present on the car, however a car's condition is somewhat subjective and opinion based. Where door ding may be considered perfectly acceptable on a 10 year old car, it would never be acceptable on a car which is brand new. Also, on higher-mileage used cars, it is important to remember that virtually any mechanical or non-mechanical component can fail at any time. We cannot predict what components will fail in the future, or when they will fail. This is simply the nature of older higher mileage used vehicles. The best that we can do is assure that the car is operating properly at the time of purchase. This car is sold as-is, and we cannot be held responsible for any mechanical or non-mechanical failure. Additionally, because we do not know the inspection requirements of other states, we cannot guarantee that this vehicle will pass any out-of-state inspections.

Just because the penetration of the American automotive market by Chinese brands hasn't quite happened yet doesn't mean that Chinese-built cars are far off. According to a new report, we could very soon see long-wheelbase Volvo S60s that were assembled in the People's Republic arriving on US shores. The report comes from Automotive News China, which cites an anonymous Volvo exec. An official Volvo spokesperson later corroborated ANC's report, although where the original source claimed that we could see the Chinese-built S60L in US dealers at some point in 2015, the company line was that a timeline hadn't been established to begin exports from the world's most populous nation. According to Volvo, the benefit to exporting from China to the United States rather than from Sweden is the relationship between the US dollar and the Chinese yuan. Overall, it's a less tumultuous issue than the dollar-to-euro situation. By moving vehicles from China to the US, the Chinese-owned company is limiting the degree of risk it's taking with sudden currency swings.

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

Two days ago, Volvo opened the order books on its completely new 2015 XC90 crossover, and just like that, all of the 1,927 First Edition models were reserved in a scant 47 hours. According to Volvo, most of the vehicles were reserved within one hour of the online ordering site launching, and at its peak, seven cars were being sold each minute. First Edition models wear a unique Onyx Black exterior, and ride on eight-spoke, 21-inch wheels. Inside, amber nappa leather covers the seats, the dashboard is lined in charcoal leather, and there are walnut inlays throughout the cabin. Under the hood, the XC90 First Edition can be had with either a four-cylinder Drive-E gasoline or diesel engine (if you live in markets outside the US, of course). The twin-charged T6 petrol model comes with 320 horsepower, and sends its power to the ground via all-wheel drive.
