1999 Volvo V70 XC AWD
| We are pleased to present this very nice 1999 Volvo V70 XC AWD. There are several things that make this car quite special, and I'll try to make sure that I list all of them for those that are not quite as familiar with these Volvos. These 98-00 V70s are developing quite a following among our customers, and we are constantly having people asking us to find nice examples of them (because of our reputation as a seller of volvos of this vintage). We scour the country looking for the finest examples of these cars. We often come across them, but rarely in the fantastic condition of this particular one. These cars were in production since the eary 90s (as the 850), and then from 1998-2000 they were lightly redesigned and made more luxurious and sold as the V70. These final versions of Volvo's first front wheel drive car are perhaps one of the most reliable Volvos ever made! In fact, the engine and transmission configuration in this car will have no problem eating all of the miles you throw at it. We have seen several of these with 300, 400, and even 500k miles! Now, on top of all of the things that make this 1999 V70 XC special, this is also very, very well optioned. It's stuffed with options like the Touring Packge, Leather, Moonroof, Stability and Traction Control, and of course, the very hard to find THIRD ROW SEAT! This is as highly optioned as a V70XC can be in the 1999 model year! Going anywhere in the winter is now something you'll never have to worry about. These V70 XCs feature the very first iteration of Haldex's All Wheel Drive. Hadex is a Swedish based company which does nothing but design and manufacture all wheel drive systems. Their systems have come to be used in makes and models in various car companies, and even in extremely high performance cars such as the new Volvo S60 Polestar. The first generation of this system is regarded as many Volvo enthusiasts as being the best for winter traction. It also has a winter mode for the transmission which starts the car out in second gear to prevent wheel spin. This car is a ONE OWNER vehicle. It has been owned by the same family since it was brand new in 1999. One owner cars are almost always very well cared for because the person who bought it paid well over $30,000 for this car, and they are protecting that investment. The other AWESOME thing about this car is, as I mentioned above is that it has the very rare third row seat. That seat makes this car a 7 Passenger vehicle, and allows you to have the seating capacity of an SUV while still having the handling, performance, and gas mileage of a car. The interior of this V70 is in very good condition. In fact, overall, this is one of the nicest interiors we've ever seen in one of these cars. The tan leather seats are in nearly perfect condition for the car's age with no tears. They're still quite soft, and feel great. Everything in the interior works including the air conditioning, which is ice cold. The car has the upgraded high-performance alpine/volvo sound system with 10 speakers and a CD/Cassette player. It's easy to use, and sounds excellent. It also has a power moonroof. The previous owner of this car was definitely a non-smoker. These cars don't even come with cigarette lighters, just power outlets. There is a cup holder that accommodates two beverages. This Volvo has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags. The side airbags are part of a system called SIPS which stands for "Side Impact Protection System." This is a combination of high-strength door beams, specially designed door openings, and side airbags, which keeps the passengers safe in the event of a side impact. The rear seats fold flat (both the second and third row seats), and the passenger front seat also folds down for carrying very long cargo. The exterior of this V70 is in remarkably good condition for the year and miles, and is Nautic Blue Metallic in color. This is one of the more popular colors for these cars, and the contrast between the dark blue exterior and the tan interior is very striking. The exterior of this car is just gorgeous, and the paint is in wonderful condition. It's obvious that this car was garaged for its life. The car has very nice 15" alloy wheels which are in great condition. The lug bolts are nice and shiny and not rusted at all. This V70 also has the roof bars which allow for heavier loads than the standard bars. They are also exactly of the proper shape and size to accept any THULE attachment (this is because they're made for Volvo by Thule). They are easily removable in less than 5 minutes, and can be stowed in the cargo area.
The tires are all in nice shape with excellent tread life remaining. The brakes are in good shape and the car stops as it should. The legendary 2.4 Liter low-pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine runs flawlessly and is very smooth. The transmission also operates properly. It's very smooth, while still shifting crisply. All of the car's accessories work including the power windows and moonroof. These cars rarely have mechanical problems. We are a Certified Bosch Car Service center, and our cars for sale go through a multi-step certification process whereby cars are tested and inspected for safety and reliability. The car will be inspected one final time prior to the new customer taking delivery, so when purchasing or making your offer, please consider that we will likely need 1-2 days before the car can be delivered or shipped. You're welcome to contact us to arrange to expedite this process. |

We pride ourselves in having the most detailed, highest resolution images on ebay, and we use the finest photography equipment in order to catch even the smallest details of the cars that we sell. In addition, the description above provides a comprehensive walk-around of the car including the interior, exterior, and mechanical systems. We even will fill you in on any previous maintenance that we've performed. Regardless, all cars that we sell have been thoroughly checked for safety by our in-house master technician. In addition, we road-test every car we sell very extensively before offering it. If there are any issues with the car that are present, they will be mentioned in the auction. Because we road test the cars extensively, it is possible that the car may have more miles on it than when the auction was listed. We always encourage you to come check out the car in person before bidding or making an offer. If you are too far away to do this, there are several inspection services that can review the car, or we can take the car to a local garage of your choice for a pre-purchase inspection.
Please note that a $250 deposit within 24 hours of the end of the auction. This deposit can be made by contacting us directly and can be paid by credit or debit card over the phone. This allows us to speak with you person-to-person which allows us to fill you in on the process and fine details of the transaction, as well as lets you know that we are real people who are committed to making the process of purchasing your new car as easy and painless as possible. Buying a car should be fun and exciting, not a chore. The balance is due within 7 days via Certified Check, Money Order, or bank wire transfer. We can also accept credit cards and personal checks for full payment with prior authorization. Simply contact us before bidding or making your offer to let us know that you plan on paying with one of these methods so that we can let you know about additional terms that apply. Non-paying buyers will be reported to ebay. We charge a $255 dealer services fee for all transactions. This fee covers any
additional paperwork service, overnighting of paperwork, and dealer prep. We can provide a temporary cardboard plate for out of state customers at no charge. Pennsylvania residents will need to pay sales tax between 6% and 7% depending upon your county of residence. There are also Pennsylvania fees for the registration, title, and license plate (unless you bring your own plate to transfer).
Inexpensive used cars are not at all the same as a brand new car, or certified pre-owned vehicle. They are in no way flawless, or perfect. As noted above, we try our absolute best to disclose any issues which may be present on the car, however a car's condition is somewhat subjective and opinion based. Where door ding may be considered perfectly acceptable on a 10 year old car, it would never be acceptible on a car which is brand new. Also, on higher-mileage used cars, it is important to remember that virtually any mechanical or non-mechanical component can fail at any time. We cannot predict what components will fail in the future, or when they will fail. This is simply the nature of older higher mileage used vehicles. The best that we can do is assure that the car is operating properly at the time of purchase. This car is sold as-is, and we cannot be held responsible for any mechanical or non-mechanical failure. Additionally, because we do not know the inspection requirements of other states, we cannot guarantee that this vehicle will pass any out-of-state inspections.

Out today is the news that Geely Holding will acquire controlling interest in British sports car maker Lotus Cars. While some 20 years ago the Chinese acquisition of a British automaker might have inspired grumbling from aggrieved Brits (and the handful of Lotus enthusiasts), the world has moved on. And so – thankfully – can Lotus. To suggest Lotus' business history has been checkered is to broaden the definition of "checkered." With its beginnings in the early '50s as a maker of component cars for competition, Lotus founder Colin Chapman – in a manner not unlike his postwar contemporary, Enzo Ferrari – was always hustling, living a hand-to-mouth existence in the production of road cars to support a racing program. Regrettably, Chapman never found a Fiat, as Ferrari did toward the end of the 1960s. Lotus had Ford in its corner for racing and as a resource for powertrains, and later benefited from the corporate support of both GM and Toyota for relatively short periods. Lotus Cars, however, never enjoyed the corporate buy-in that would have allowed Chapman to race and let someone else build the cars. Regardless of what Consumer Reports or Kelley Blue Book might have thought (if they had ...) about those early Lotus cars, a great many are now regarded as classics. My first knowledge of a production Lotus was when Tom McCahill, the 'dean' of automotive journalists in the US, tested an early Elan for Mechanix Illustrated. While we're still not sure, some 50 years later, how McCahill's XXL frame fit into the tiny roadster, he had nothing but praise for the Elan's athletic chassis and now-timeless design. In today's Lotus portfolio, the Elise and Exige continue that light, athletic tradition, while the larger Evora seems to strike wide – literally and figuratively – of the "less is more" ideal. With the Toyota-powered Evora, more is more. But in an eco-sensitive era demanding more of the original Chapman mantra – add lightness – there's little reason that Lotus can't regain relevance if given the financial resources. Geely's acquisition of Volvo, the fruits of which appear regularly not only in the news but on the streets, suggests the Chinese investment will provide strategic vision (along with money) while allowing Lotus talent to do what it does best: Create an exciting product. And while at various periods in its history the product has been worthy, Lotus in the US has been ill-served by a flailing dealer network.

The Volvo S60 Polestar may not seem like a natural fit for the V8 Supercars series that runs throughout Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. After all, the all-wheel-drive production-spec car isn't even available with a V8. But the rear-wheel-drive racing version has acquitted itself well in the early races of the season, even scoring an overall win at a race in Melbourne. Currently at seventh place in the championship, the S60 the most successful car that isn't a Holden or Ford. To celebrate its burgeoning success, Volvo sent its V8 Supercars drivers Robert Dahlgren and Scott McLaughlin to home base in Sweden to have some fun driving in the snow and to visit Polestar headquarters. The two of them do some big power slides on an icy lake and then taker a deeper look into the company's performance division. Scroll down to watch the video full of sliding Swedish sedans.

As a part of eliminating its dependence on Ford platforms and powertrains, Volvo has previously announced information about its Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) and Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), but now we're finally getting some details about what will power some of the Swedish automaker's next-generation products. The biggest key to VEA on the diesel engines is a new technology Volvo calls i-ART. This system uses unique injectors at each cylinder capable of monitoring fuel pressure and adjusting accordingly to maximize fuel economy and performance and reduce emissions. Looking ahead, Volvo says its four-cylinder engines will be able to offer the power of a six-cylinder and eventually, mixed with some sort of electrification, will be able to rival the performance of a V8 and "turn V8s into dinosaurs." More details about the new diesel injection technology is posted in the press release below.
