Immaculate, One Owner, California Volvo S70 With Window Sticker; Great Buy!!!! on 2040-cars
Long Beach, California, United States
Thanks for stopping by to take a closer look at this sterling Volvo S70 Four Door Sedan. I'm listing it for my friend and neighbor Greg who has treated it with the utmost care since he drove it new from the dealership 13 years ago. Metallic Nautical Blue Paint, an extra-cost color, still glistens and stands up to close inspection. No accidents, no rust, EVER! and not a '20-footer.' As result of his significant commute, Greg logged some 176 thousand - mostly freeway - miles. But because Greg was usually the only one in the smoke free car, the supple leather seats don't reflect its age. And if the mileage reading wasn't visible, the driver would think he was behind the wheel of a fairly new car. Even the Michelin tires have lots of wear remaining, and the care comes with its original window sticker showing the car's price of $31,575. I've been in and around cars as a hobby since I bought my first 1940 Chevrolet in 1952 and typically evaluate 'drivers' on a cost per mile basis. Considering you can buy this car for less than a lease vehicle's down payment, you can probably expect your next trouble-free 50,000 miles to cost about 5 cents a mile. Taking a look at other eBay offerings for similar Volvos will show good running ones approaching 250,000 miles. A new $35,000 car, for instance, will depreciate about $10,000 the first year. If you drive it 10,000 miles, cost is a dollar a mile. Makes 5 cents sound like a major transportation bargain. In addition to looking good, the car is currently registered and insured, has been regularly maintained by Signal Hill Foreign Auto Service (Signal Hill, CA) for the last three years and runs, shifts, rides and handles remarkably well, the latter assisted by its premium Michelin tires. Here's my overall assessment: For less than $3K, you get a very comfortable, safe, luxury-oriented vehicle that seats five with ease, is fuel efficient with its 5-speed adaptive transmission and presents extremely well. And there are three additional bonuses: a working electric sunroof to enjoy the evening air, a cold blowing air conditioning system for those hot days and cruise control for those long drives. So often I read eBay ads that say, "air condition blowing cool and was working, but 'just needs recharging'." What that typically means is that the compressor is shot and that a replacement will cost $1500 or more. Greg is offering this one with a low reserve (less than that lease car down payment). He's expecting the successful bidder to submit a $500 PayPal deposit within 48 hours of auction close and the remainder by cash or check, noting the car will be released when the check clears. If the buyer intends to ship the car, Greg will be happy to cooperate with the transportation company selected by the buyer. The car is located just east of Downtown Long Beach. This is a nice car and it's easy to get carried away describing it, so here's a caveat: To insure this car meets your expectations, personally inspect or have it inspected by a third party before you place a bid. Here's another: If you're new to eBay or outside the Continental US, contact me before bidding. Your questions and comments are encouraged and will be promply answered. After 13 years and 177K miles here are some additional things to consider about the car: 1)Two keys, no remote; 2) Gasoline access door closes but does not latch; 3) Radio on/off switch and gear-shift release sometimes require mild coaxing; 4) front passenger window works from pass side, but only goes up from driver's side; 5) left headlamp lens cracked years ago, but hasn't warranted replacing. Thanks for taking the time to read down this far. Rest assured we will appreciate your bids because this car is FOR SALE! |

Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k
Tue, 07 Oct 2014Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.
How Norway became a world leader in EV sales, and where it goes from here
Tue, Dec 25 2018OSLO, Norway — A silent revolution has transformed driving in Norway. Eerily quiet vehicles are ubiquitous on the fjord-side roads and mountain passes of this wealthy European nation of 5.3 million. Some 30 percent of all new cars sport plug-in cables rather than gasoline tanks, compared with 2 percent across Europe overall and 1-2 percent in the U.S. As countries around the world — including China, the world's biggest auto market — try to encourage more people to buy electric cars to fight climate change, Norway's success has one key driver: the government. It offered big subsidies and perks that it is now due to phase out, but only so long as electric cars remain attractive to buy compared with traditional ones. "It should always be cheaper to have a zero emissions car than a regular car," says Climate and Environment Minister Ola Elvestuen, who helped push through a commitment to have only zero-emissions cars sold in Norway by 2025. The plan supports Norway's CO2 reduction targets under the 2015 Paris climate accord. To help sales, the Norwegian government waived hefty vehicle import duties and registration and sales taxes for buyers of electric cars. Owners don't have to pay road tolls, and get free use of ferries and bus lanes in congested city centers. These perks are being phased out in 2021, though any road tolls and fees would be limited to half of what gasoline car owners must pay. Gradually, subsidies for electric cars will be replaced by higher taxes on traditional cars. Registration tax on new cars is paid on a sliding scale with a premium for the amount of emissions produced. Elvestuen pledges that the incentives for electric vehicles will be adjusted in such a way that it does not scupper the 2025 target. "What is important is that our aim is not just to give incentives," he says. "It is that we are taxing emissions from regular cars." Using taxes to encourage consumers to shift to cleaner energy can be tricky for a government — protests have erupted in France over a fuel tax that hurt the livelihood of poorer families, especially in rural areas where driving is often the only means of transportation. In the U.S, some would like to see the tax credit on EVs and hybrids eliminated while others would extend it. In this sense, Norway is an outlier. The country is very wealthy after exporting for decades the kind of fossil fuels the world is trying to wean itself off of. Incomes are higher than the rest of Europe, as are prices.
2016 Chevy Colorado grabs Motor Trend Truck of the Year award
Tue, Nov 17 2015It's not an easy feat to win Motor Trend Truck of the Year twice in a row, but the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado managed to do just that. Thanks to the introduction of the 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder diesel, the magazine decided to bring the pickup back to defend the title. In more good news for the Bowtie brand, the 2016 Camaro earned the magazine's Car of the Year award. The Colorado beat a tough group of finalists to earn the nod this year, including its GMC Canyon sibling. The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra also made this year's list. The Nissan Titan XD and latest Toyota Tacoma rounded out the challengers. A model had to shine in six criteria to earn the title: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function. Like it did with the Camaro, Motor Trend posted a story online that explained the rationale for picking the Colorado again. They praised the diesel profusely and lauded the whole platform as quite a capable hauler. This year's Motor Trend SUV of the Year honor went to the Volvo XC90. The Swedish 'ute had to win against an initial group of 16 candidates that the magazine eventually whittled down to finalists that consisted of the Honda Pilot, Lincoln MKX, the combined Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and GLE Coupe, and Nissan Murano. "Seven-passenger people movers aren't supposed to drive like this," senior features editor Jonny Lieberman said about the Volvo in the announcement of the champions. The Honda CR-V won last year. In the explanation online, the judges applauded the XC90's new modular platform, and they loved both the T6 twin-charged engine and T8 hybrid version. The SUV's key enamored the writers, too.
