1998 Volvo V70 Base Wagon 4-door 2.4l - No Reserve on 2040-cars
Darien, Connecticut, United States
Great car for your graduating college or high school student. Well maintained and nice looking, no dash lights on and never been in an accident. We have owned this car for 8 years and is a daily driver (we are the 3rd owner and we bought it from the 2nd owner because they were moving overseas). Selling it because we needed an all wheel drive vehicle to get to the mountains to ski. Paint job is in real nice shape with very minor dings and scrapes (chips and scrapes on bumpers -- look at picture 2 and 4). Inside is clean (some of the seams on the seat were re-stitched where separated -- see pictures 6-9). Everything works as it should but there are a few minor issues (rear wiper does not work (fuse?), power mirrors have to be manually moved (fuse?), needs tires, small chip in front windshield at bottom (professionally sealed), plastic molding along side in back is cracked and covered with tape -- size of 3" round, radio will switch channels sometime when you hit a bump (look at picture 5 to the left under side window), and after the car sits for a while you need to wait a few seconds with your foot on the brake to move the shifter out of park). I have tried to be as detailed as possible with the description and is available to come see for yourself or if you want a close up picture of anything on the car let me know and I will try to take more pictures and post them. I live along the New Haven Metro North and Amtrack line in lower Fairfield CT making it easy to come see and pick up the car. I have listed the car locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if sold. |

Last Volvo XC90 rolls off assembly line in Gothenburg
Mon, 14 Jul 2014It was back in 1998 when Volvo set about developing its first SUV. The brief was to build a seven-seater that wasn't "too large", and several design proposals were considered. Three and a half years later Volvo revealed the XC90 at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show and the rest, as they say, is history.
Volvo initially had an eye towards selling 50,000 units per year. It achieved that and then some, selling around 85,000 examples per year between 2004 and 2007. Now, after 12 years and 636,143 examples made - still over that initial target on average despite its lingering age that see it selling just 11,000 units these past few years - the last Volvo XC90 rolled off the assembly line in Gothenburg.
That final example is heading straight to the Volvo Museum adjacent to the factory. But it won't, strictly speaking, be the last XC90. It is the last of that model to be built in Sweden, but a new model is on its way. And the current model will continue to be built in Daqing, China, to be sold locally as the Volvo XC Classic. So if you want to get your hands on a seven-seat Volvo crossover, you'll have to move there. Otherwise you can wait until the end of January 2015 for the new model to begin production.
First production Volvo P1800 stolen
Mon, 26 Aug 2013Want further proof that car thieves are the scum of the Earth? Some crooks in Sweden made off with a prized Volvo - the very first production P1800. The P1800, a two-door coupe, is a classic that's been growing in popularity over the years, thanks in no small part to its gorgeous sheetmetal.
This particular example, wearing chassis number two, wears red paint with a white interior. It was swiped from a locked storage facility in Stockholm, according to Hemmings, between August 21 and 22. The P1800 was owned by Mats Eriksson, vice president of the Swedish P1800 Club, who had given it a thorough restoration. Features to look out for on this particular car include the unique wheel covers shown in the gallery, and two different registration plates - C28000 and ACZ 780.
Larmtjänst AB, a non-profit that fights vehicle crimes in Sweden, is accepting any and all information pertaining from the theft. If you, or anyone you know, was in Stockholm on the night of the days of the theft or has seen a red P1800 in the Scandinavian region, head over to the Larmtjänst AB website to submit a tip.
New Lotus SUV could be based on Volvo architecture
Tue, Mar 20 2018Last year, Chinese carmaker Geely upped its stake in Lotus to a majority, recently investing more money into the British brand. Now, talking with Automotive News, CEO Jean-Marc Gales says Geely has approved three new models: two sports cars and the third an SUV. The sports cars will be announced later this year, and they will reach production in 2020. The last time a properly new Lotus debuted was in 2009 with the Evora, so a decade later new products are certainly due. But what about that SUV? Autocar says that since Geely also owns Volvo, that makes it possible for Lotus to base the SUV onto the Volvo SPA platform, which is also used in the XC60 and XC90. The choice of platform would mean the SUV would have to be a four-cylinder model, but that's nothing new to Lotus. It could even use Volvo's "Twin Engine" hybrid setup, which would mean a power output of over 400 horsepower as stock, and that with Lotus' eagerness for lightness could be a potent combination. Autocar quotes Gales as saying, "It will go round bends like nothing else in its segment." The target weight for the approximately Porsche Macan-sized SUV is under 2,000 kilos (4,400 pounds), and the Macan weighs 4244 pounds in 400-hp Turbo guise. The Lotus SUV is projected to hit the market in "about four years," and it's very likely to be built in China instead of Britain, as the Chinese market is very enticing — especially for this class of vehicle. The vehicles will still be designed at Lotus' Hethel HQ. Related Video:
