1997 Volvo 850 Glt - Seized Engine on 2040-cars
Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, United States
Up for sale is my mother's 1997 Volvo 850 with approx. 167,000 miles. She is the second owner. Unfortunately her oil pan was punctured on a large pothole and all the oil leaked out and the engine has seized. She brought it to the mechanic who put in a new oil pan to find out that the engine was no good after $1100 in parts and labor. She has since gotten a new car, and I already have other Volvo projects and have realized that I won't get to this one for some time. It will be a great car for someone who could put a new engine into it and wants a reliable safe car, or for a mechanic to do and make a quick buck on.
The car is in great condition, aside from the fact that it will need a new engine to run. Everything else works as it should and it has been maintained meticulously. Has 4 fairly new tires (within the last year). The interior is in good shape and the exterior is pretty good aside for some chipping of the paint on the bumpers. The car has no major dents or dings. I have a clear title. Looking for $800 OBRO as is. Buyer responsible for full payment within 24 hours of auctions end. Payments accepted in the form of bank check, please email me for payment instructions. Vehicle is located on Martha's Vineyard. |

Volvo developing new three-cylinder engine family
Mon, 25 Aug 2014Pop the hood on a Volvo of recent vintage and you'll find four-, five-, six- and even eight-cylinder engines. But the Swedish automaker is downsizing its engines over the coming years. The new XC90, set to be revealed later this week, will use a new family of four-cylinder engines (like the one pictured above). But that's not even the end of it as emerging reports speak of a new three-cylinder engine family in the works.
The new 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine will, according to reports, help Volvo further cut its carbon emissions in line with constricting regulations in markets like Europe and Australia. There won't be quite as many versions as the four-cylinder range, which will include gasoline and diesel versions in varying states of tune, but the three-pot motor is tipped to be employed in vehicles as large as the S60 and its stablemates. Larger than that, however, and the three-cylinder engine apparently just doesn't have the necessary torque.
Expect the new three-cylinder engine to be introduced sometime later this decade, after the four-cylinder's introduction in 2016. The three-cylinder engine is also set to form the building block of an even more efficient hybrid propulsion system in the future, enabling this new engine family to stay relevant through 2025.
Recharge Wrap-up: 10-year sentence for biodiesel fraudsters, overhead fast charging EV buses in Luxembourg
Thu, Nov 10 2016Toyota will use addressable TV advertising to target potential Prius Prime customers. By choosing to advertise in households with specific attributes, Toyota hopes to grab the attention of buyers who "see their vehicle as an extension of their consumption of advanced technology," according to Toyota Motors Sales media manager Lisa McQueen. The ad depicts a person who is skeptical of various inventions throughout history until he finds himself inside the Prius Prime. Hyundai has also used addressable TV ads for its Genesis brand. Read more at Automotive News. Two Florida men have each been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for biodiesel credit fraud. Thomas Davanzo and Robert Fedyna of Gen-X Energy Group and its subsidiary Southern Resources and Commodities were convicted of buying fuel that had already been sold with Renewable Identification Numbers, then fraudulently claiming more credits on that fuel. The scheme raked in more than $46 million, mostly in selling the fraudulent credits. Critics of the Renewable Fuel Standard point to incidents like this as a reason to oppose the program. Read more from Reuters. Volvo electric buses in Luxembourg will use Heliox Fast Charge systems. Public transport operator Sales-Lentz has ordered three of the Heliox systems that will charge the buses using pantograph (overhead wire) contacts. The chargers will be placed at end-of-route stops for opportunistic charging of the transport agency's four Volvo 7900 electric buses. The 450-kW, Wi-Fi-enabled OppCharge system automatically connects the charger to contact plates on the roofs of the vehicles, charging them in three to six minutes. Read more at Green Car Congress.
