Up for sale is RARE 1996 Volvo 850 R When this vehicle was new, it was the fastest production car with an automatic transmission that you could buy. It was also one of the safest vehicles you could own. These vehicles are known to last a very long time and are capable of running for well over 300,000 miles. Over the last few years I have invested a lot of money into this car. The top half of the motor was rebuilt. The cylinder head has been machined and new valves were installed just last year (only about 5,000 miles ago). While doing that, I also replaced the water pump, all the timing components, timing belt, all the coolant hoses, vacuum lines, cap and rotor and plugs. Most of these were replaced with OEM Volvo parts. Also, I did some nice upgrades to the car. I replaced the upper engine mount with IPD polyurethane bushings (these don't wear out and break like the factory ones), IPD 8mm wires, and a 2006 V70R exhaust manifold (factory ones crack and the newer style manifold flows much better). I'm sure there are other things I am forgetting about. I have put over $3,000 in the car and have receipts to go with it. This car runs and drives great. If you have any questions or would like more pictures please feel free to contact me. Don't miss your chance to own this rare, collectible car!! |

Volvo recommits to Sweden with development of next-gen platform and engines
Tue, 04 Dec 2012Taking into account the facts that Volvo is now owned by China's Geely and how poorly the European automotive market has been recently, we would have definitely understood if Volvo moved production of its products out of its home market. And yet, the automaker has confirmed that it will be investing billions of dollars into new platforms and engines that will be made in Sweden. On a global scale, Volvo is making roughly $11 billion of investments, and close to half of that is being earmarked for Sweden for plant expansion and upgrades.
The new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform will be the used as the basis for most future Volvo products starting with the next-generation XC90 that will be debuting at the end of 2014. SPA will be used to make up two-thirds of Volvo's sales, and gives Volvo a quicker and easier break from Ford-derived platforms. As for the Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) family of engines, there are really no details about this mill except that it will be a four-cylinder that is more fuel efficient than current engines.

Volvo promises new direct-injected diesels, 8-speed auto
Tue, 09 Apr 2013As a part of eliminating its dependence on Ford platforms and powertrains, Volvo has previously announced information about its Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) and Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), but now we're finally getting some details about what will power some of the Swedish automaker's next-generation products.
The biggest key to VEA on the diesel engines is a new technology Volvo calls i-ART. This system uses unique injectors at each cylinder capable of monitoring fuel pressure and adjusting accordingly to maximize fuel economy and performance and reduce emissions. Looking ahead, Volvo says its four-cylinder engines will be able to offer the power of a six-cylinder and eventually, mixed with some sort of electrification, will be able to rival the performance of a V8 and "turn V8s into dinosaurs."
More details about the new diesel injection technology is posted in the press release below.
