1965 Volvo 122S Two-Door Rare Factory Black Paint Color All-Original In and Out VIN: 106717 I’m often asked where we find these unique cars. One of my best workers cruises parking lots of retirement homes, Elks clubs, the V.F.W halls and the back alleys of a well-known Scandinavian neighborhood here in Seattle. He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a car door a mile away… He always notices when a vehicle’s driving down the road with a turn signal left on just a little too long and he positively twitches with glee when passing by a car with metal bumpers. Over the years I’ve owned many vintage Volvos so you can imagine just how pleased I was when this all-original two door rolled into the warehouse a few weeks ago. The original owner purchased it in late 1964 from the first Volvo dealer here in western Washington and it has always been a local car.
I always take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also small things possibly needing attention: The pics clearly show how well the nearly fifty-year-old paint still holds a shine! There are a few thin spots and chips, but I’d just continue to baby it as long as possible - and that should easily be years assuming regular waxing. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Well, this classic cruiser HATES rust and you’ll be very hard pressed to find ANYTHING here to worry about. Yes, the Puget Sound region gets its share of drizzle, but rarely any snow so our winter roads are not salted. One snowflake and everyone stays home. Besides, this vehicle has not even seen a winter road in the more than a dozen years! All the factory glass is great. There are no cracks or chips on the windshield. All the original exterior chrome and trim is far above average. The factory wheels are wrapped with 165/R15 radials each with at least 80-90% remaining tread.
BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice vehicle from a respected Ebay Seller. My main goal is be sure you’re happy with your purchase - and your dealings with me! Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, I require that Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If we don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to inspect the Volvo, so make an appointment or send your representative early to be sure you don't miss this one. We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! Additionally I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later as you’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are many transport companies to choose from. I ship vehicles regularly and suggest that you get a bid from the service most of our buyer’s use (and that Ebay endorses): Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). Call my designated representative, Janice, at (469) 587-5096. Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up our location info for an accurate quote. Alternatively, you might also try the U-Ship website (www.U-ship.com). Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington) to get an instant on-line quote. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The car can be stored free of charge at my warehouse location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. I’ll begin charging storage at $20 per day thereafter. |

Junkyard Gem: 1969 Volvo 145 Wagon
Sun, Oct 24 2021Volvo managed to sell the 1940s-design PV544 and its 1950s-design Amazon descendant all the way into the mid-to-late 1960s in the United States, but those iconic machines were replaced here by one that began a line of even more iconic Volvos: the 140 Series. Starting with the 1968 model year, the 140 became available in the United States as a two-door sedan (the 142), a four-door sedan (the 144 and 164), and a station wagon (the 145). These rear-wheel-drive, brick-shaped cars later evolved into the 200 Series and its heirs, with the very last of the breed appearing here in the form of the 1998 S90/V90. That's a lot of history all wrapped up in one vehicle, and so I was pleased to find this 145 in a Denver-area car graveyard earlier this month. This car rolled out of Goteborg with a gleaming coat of Morkgron (dark green) paint and, according to this build tag, was built to California specifications. At some point, it made its way to Colorado. Very few US-market cars had six-digit odometers prior to the middle 1980s, but Volvo felt optimistic about their cars' longevity (at a time when reaching the magical 100,000-mile mark was something that rarely happened with non-Mercedes-Benz vehicles) and so now we can see that this car made it well past 200k miles. The 2.0-liter pushrod four-cylinder engine in this car can trace its ancestry back to the Amazons, P1800s, and PV544s of the early 1960s, and it was rated at 115 horsepower. A six-cylinder version of the 140 sedan, known as the 164, could be purchased here as well (though it had few American takers). But wait— what's that Detroit-looking two-barrel carburetor doing on an engine that's supposed to have a Stromberg 175? Yes, it's a GM-spec Rochester clone built at the ancient Bay City Plant (now known as GM Powertrain) in Michigan. Earlier Volvos came with a pair of British-made Skinner Union sidedrafts, which could be pretty painful to keep working right, but perhaps even the less-oddball Stromberg proved too much hassle for whoever installed this carb (which was meant to go on engines with much more displacement than a Volvo B20). Transmission choices in the 1969 140: a four-on-the-floor manual or a three-speed automatic. This car has the manual. The interior is pretty thrashed, as is usually the case with the 140s I find during my junkyard explorations.
Here's today's round of auto plant closures in response to coronavirus
Fri, Mar 20 2020More automakers have shuttered factories, as businesses everywhere work to slow the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus — and as the pandemic slows sales and disrupts parts supply chains. On Friday, the following closures were announced: • Volvo will close its factories in Sweden and the United States from March 26 to April 14. Volvo's U.S. facility, in Charleston, South Carolina, makes the S60 sedan. Its assembly plant in Torslanda, Sweden, turns out the XC90, SC60, and V90. Other Swedish facilities make engines and component parts. A Volvo factory in Ghent, Belgium, that builds the XC40 and V60 closed earlier this week and is expected to remain offline until April 6. Volvo's four factories in China have been reopened after a shutdown earlier this year. • Jaguar Land Rover announced that it will suspend production at its assembly plants in the UK over the coming week. The shutdown is expected to last until April 20. Elsewhere, production continues at the company's factories in India and Brazil, and JLR's joint-venture plant in China reopened at the end of February. • Bentley is closing its factory in Crewe, England, for four weeks, effective today. • Bugatti has put its atelier in Molsheim, France, on hiatus. No date was given for when assembly of its supercars might resume. • Mercedes-Benz on Monday will shut down its SUV factory in Alabama and its van assembly plant in South Carolina. Both will remain closed for a minimum of two weeks. Tesla yesterday revealed that it will suspend operations at its Fremont, California, vehicle assembly plant next week, on order from local officials there. Yesterday's factory closure announcements also included the U.S. assembly plants for Toyota (until April 6), Volkswagen (through March 29), Subaru (through March 29), and Hyundai (no time period specified). They join GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, and Harley-Davidson, which earlier this week announced the suspension of production at their facilities. Scratch that new crossover, Volvo teases ad campaign for XC60
Sun, 26 May 2013If we were to paraphrase the opening lines of Kenneth Graeme's Wind in the Willows for our own purposes, we'd write, "Have you heard about Volvo? They never planned a new crossover at all. It was all a horrid low trick of theirs...." To be fair, though, we can't blame them for our own presumption. When the Swedish car company created a site called LeaveTheWorldBehind.com and teased a couple of videos for some kind of collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, we thought the crossover in one of the teasers pointed to a new vehicle on the way.
Turns out that's not the case. It really is 'just' a collaboration with the band on a music video for Swedish artist Lune's cover of their 2009 song, Leave the World Behind.
But there are Volvos in it, and you can watch it below and hear original song alongside. We've also included the press release with more details on why it all came together, and a behind-the-scenes video on the collabo. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, "That's all we have to say about that."
