Volvo 240 Dl Wagon - Well-preserved, Great For The Volvo Enthusiast on 2040-cars
Bothell, Washington, United States
I'm selling to fellow Volvo enthusiasts a well-preserved but with patina 1985 Volvo 240 wagon. I bought this car from the original owner in Whidbey Island last year. My dad bought a similar brand new one back in 1983 and we kept in the family until it got sadly totaled two years ago. Amazingly, its original engine was still running well at close to 500,000 miles.
Back to this car, I found this car on a quest for another well-taken cared Volvo 240 and for a fun car project with my Dad. As you may see from photos, the car's original paint and interior has lasted very well especially for its mileage. The original owner always had the car garaged. The clock is clear but has stopped working; the original radio works. The AC also works well as a defroster with the infamously warm Volvo heater. I not only have receipts of all the work done since I bought it, but also receipts since it was brand new. I even have the original window sticker (purchased in Portland) for this car! My goal was to enjoy mechanically sorting this car with my dad. A vast majority of the work was done by Volvo mechanics, while we did source the parts from IPD and some eBay original parts sellers. I have the receipts for the work done, but here is a list: Timing belt and tensioner, etc. Water pump Distributor Coil wires Spark plugs Seals/gaskets All oil changes and filters - engine, transmission, differential Engine compression test Radiator flush and hose replacements Engine wire harness Header and complete cat back exhaust (properly welded) Ignition control unit Neutral safety switch Fuel rail Ball joints Steering rod IPD sway bars Bilstein heavy duty shocks and struts All new Michelin tires New brake lines and master cylinder Engine breather/flame trap Fuel pump relay New oil dipstick Minor dent removal Rust inhibitor application Headlights Extra parts but not installed (not needed at this time): Extra water pump Suspension bushings In-tank fuel pump kit Brake junction block As mentioned, I also have the receipts from the original owners including ECM replacement, regular oil changes, steering rack and boot work, timing belt replacements, tires, motor mounts. The list goes on; the best thing is to come take a look at the car and see for yourself. Anyway, I've been reliably daily driving the car for the last several weeks to/from Seattle and Eastside. I'm very happy with the way it drives and handles. Alas, it's time for another fun project with my retired Dad. This is the Volvo "brick" wagon for you if you're looking for: 1. A nicely preserved and reliable daily-driver 2. Depreciation-free (though more of these cars seem to be gaining price-wise) 3. Great provenance/history. Reserve is much lower than our expenses. Serious inquiries only please. I can be available for a live discussion: (425) seven 5 0 5 0 seven 5. Happy motoring! |

Volvo Recharge models get more power and electric range
Fri, Sep 10 2021Volvo Belgium announced a few big improvements for plug-in hybrid models on the automaker's Scalable Product Architecture, meaning the 60 and 90 series Recharge models — S60, V60, XC60, S90, V90 and XC90. First, the battery's been given another layer of cells, upping capacity from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh. At the moment, Volvo's UK site advertises two figures for all-electric range on the WLTP cycle for the XC60 and XC90, and says the S90 can already do 90 kilometers on a charge. The spec pages, however, say the XC60 can do 32 kilometers maximum, the XC90 able to go 30 kilometers. With the new battery, Volvo says all-electric range has improved to up to 90 kilometers (56 miles) on the WLTP cycle, but that will surely depend on model. Our U.S.-market XC90 PHEV is EPA-rated at 18 miles of battery-electric driving. A 62% increase would put that at about 30 miles. Just as good as the battery boost, the 87-horsepower e-motor that powers the rear axle on the Recharge trims is goosed to 145 hp. The T6 Recharge powertrain will make 350 combined horsepower, ten horses more than currently, and the T8 Recharge powertrain will make a combined 455 hp, a considerable 65 horses more than now. That makes the coming T8 the most powerful Volvo ever put into series production. The T8's 2.0-liter twin-charged engine has also been engineered for more efficiency as well as "higher engine power at low revs and at start-up," but Volvo hasn't offered specifics on that yet. Finally, drivers will be able to control all that go with just the accelerator pedal, Volvo adding single pedal drive on the XC60 Recharge, S90 Recharge, and V90 Recharge. There's no word on when we might see them; introduction sometime during the 2022 model year seems sensible. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. U.S. denies GM tariff relief request for China-made Buick SUV
Wed, Jun 5 2019WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has denied a General Motors Co request for an exemption to a 25 percent U.S. tariff on its Chinese-made Buick Envision sport utility vehicle. The denial of the nearly year-old petition came in a May 29 letter from the U.S. Trade Representative's office saying the request concerns "a product strategically important or related to 'Made in China 2025' or other Chinese industrial programs." The midsize SUV, priced starting at about $35,000, has become a target for critics of Chinese-made goods, including leaders of the United Auto Workers union and members in key political swing states such as Michigan and Ohio. GM said on Tuesday it was aware of the denial and has been paying the tariff since July. GM has not raised the sticker price to account for the tariff. Buick Envision sales fell in the United States by nearly 27% to 30,000 last year and fell another 21% in the first three months of 2019. Only a small number of vehicles are built in China and sold in the United States. Last month, the U.S. Trade Representative's Office also denied a request by Chinese-owned Volvo Cars for tariff exemptions for mid-size SUVs assembled in China after the automaker sought an exemption for the XC60, its top selling U.S. vehicle. GM, the largest U.S. automaker, argued in its request that Envision sales in China and the United States would generate funds "to invest in our U.S. manufacturing facilities and to develop the next generation of automotive technology in the United States." GM said last year the "vast majority" of Envisions, about 200,000 a year, are sold in China. Because of the lower U.S. sales volume, "assembly in our home market is not an option" for the Envision, which competes with such mid-size crossover vehicles as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Cadillac XT5. Ahead of the July 2018 start for higher import tariffs, GM shipped in a six-month supply of Envisions at the much lower 2.5 percent tariff rate, Reuters reported in August 2018.
Volvo aligning model range into three families
Thu, 28 Aug 2014Things have been slow in Gothenburg the past few years, but they're picking up speed. The only new model Volvo has released in the past four years since it was taken over by Geely - that being the V40 introduced in 2012 - started its development when the company was still under Ford's umbrella. But now the Swedish automaker is preparing to launch a volley of new models, and the new XC90 is only the starting point.
Volvo has set out to align its product portfolio into three model families - 40, 60 and 90 - each with three body-styles: sedan, wagon and crossover. (Volvo presented a tidy little table, which we've replicated below, to outline what it has in store.) That means a new S40 sedan and XC40 crossover as well as a replacement for the current V40 wagon, all to be based on a new platform shared with Geely. It also means replacements for the current S60, V60 and XC60 to be based on the modular SPA platform that underpins the new XC90, as well as a new S90 sedan to replace the S80 and a new V90 wagon to succeed the V70 and move it up-market above the V60.
All of these models are set to arrive within the next four years as Volvo moves to replace its entire lineup by 2019 and subsequently move to more competitive seven-to-eight-year product life-cycles. But as aggressively as Volvo is pursuing this renewal of its core models, they're not the only things Gothenburg has in store. Keep reading below to learn how Volvo's model line will flesh out over the coming years.
