This is a 1992 Volvo 240. It's a solid dependable car with good points and not so good points. Please allow me to detail everything I know:
Good points:
1. Engine seems to run very well
2. Transmission seems to shift smoothly and properly
3. No visible fluid leaks or smoke
4. Power windows and power locks all work; headlights and taillights are not cracked and they work.
5. This is a non-turbo 2.3cyl so it gets really great gas mileage.
Not so good points:
1. The blower motor for the heat and A/C does not come on. I do not know why. It could be a fuse or it could need a new blower motor; it has not been diagnosed by a technician yet.
2. The freon has leaked out of the A/C system. I do not know why.
3. The odometer stopped working at 152K miles so the actual mileage is unknown. My guess is that it is around 175K-200K but I can not say for sure. The other instrument cluster functions--such as the speedometer and fuel gauge--still work fine.
4. The tires are not great and should probably be replaced. In addition, the spare is currently mounted on the car because of a blowout of one of the tires.
5. The interior is is need of a thorough cleaning.
6. The paint or clear coat on the roof and the trunk lid has oxidized.
7. The radio antenna should be replaced. The radio does not work because it needs a code and I can't find the code.
8. The grill should probably be replaced since the bottom mounting tabs are broken off and the Volvo sticker is missing from the middle.
9. We haven't been driving it alot lately and the battery seems a little weak as a result. Also, I left the lights on the other day which made it go partially dead. I jump started it and drove it for a day and it seems basically fine but it seems a little weak when starting. It should probably be tested and/or replaced. I noticed that when I jumped it off it started super powerfully but when I went to start it today it started fine but it was a little weaker than when I started it with jumper cables attached. So I think the battery should be checked out. Once started it runs fine of course; it just seems a little weaker than maybe it should be when you go to start it.
10. There are two small rock chips in the windshield. Neither one is in the driver's view path and neither one has spread beyond a tiny starburst.
11. Many little trim pieces both inside and out are damaged or missing and there are various dents or damage to be found in various spots around the car. The car has at least average wear and tear for the year, possibly above average. I don't really feel like listing every dent, scratch and missing or damaged trim piece but you will find several throughout the car.
The bottom line is this: it's a solid dependable car that runs and drives well. The outstanding issues do not prevent the car from being driven across the country right now. The really important stuff is working fine. With a little bit of investment this could be a very nice car again.

Volvo Concept Recharge previews the future of Volvo design and technology
Wed, Jun 30 2021Volvo has announced a whole slew of information about where the company is headed, from battery technology to advanced driver aids. And it was all capped by the concept car you see above, the Volvo Concept Recharge. It all shows that Volvo's future is stylish, electrified and featuring the latest in safety technology. So, in a way, pretty much exactly what you'd hope and expect. Volvo didn't say much about the specifications of the Concept Recharge, but its design will clearly influence future Volvo models, including the company's upcoming flagship electric SUV that will be revealed next year. The front ditches even faux grilles for a sculpted fascia. The shape does echo some of the look of a grille, particularly with the Volvo slash and badge in the middle. The "Thor's Hammer" headlights remain, and in the case of the concept, they have wild running lights that slide up and out of the way inside the housing to make way for the actual projector headlights at night time. The whole shape of the car is based around the electric powertrain. It has a low floor and glass roof that means the whole body can be made lower and sleeker without compromising space. The wheels are pushed to the far edges, too. At the back, the car has slim vertical taillights, continuing a Volvo design tradition. On the roof, there is a lidar sensor placed at the top of the windshield. This is a significant piece of Volvo's future, as its next generation of vehicles, starting with that aforementioned SUV, will all come with one of these sensors as standard. It will be used in combination with cameras, radar, real-time data, machine learning and mapping data to provide advanced driver aids, including what Volvo describes as "unsupervised autonomous" driving in specific circumstances. Basically, it will be SAE Level 3 autonomy, a step beyond the hands-free, but still supervised Level 2 systems such as GM's Super Cruise. It will only be available on specific roads in specific circumstances, and so it won't be able to handle the entire driving task from driveway to driveway. The company expects to offer this level of autonomy on highways first, and it will only be in specific areas to begin. It didn't give an exact timeline for the roll-out and it will be a more gradual increase over time, rather than everything being launched all at once. The company also emphasized that it will only begin launching the features when they're well and truly ready.
Sunday Drive: Taking a gaze into the automotive crystal ball
Sun, Oct 22 2017Mankind has long been fascinated by the future. So it makes sense that this past week's top stories were all about cars, trucks, and SUVs that won't be hitting the market until the 2019 model year. And right at the top of the list is the Ram 1500. We've come to know Ram as the truck maker that styles its pickups with cues cribbed from big rigs, but that look has slowly evolved over time into something uniquely its own. The next Ram 1500 continues this trend, with a newly refined look that we can't wait to see in person. Up next is the 2019 Chevy Silverado. Pickup trucks have been, continue to be, and will remain the best-selling vehicles in America. And General Motors is a leader in the field, with two distinct offerings with which to entice buyers, one from the bread-and-butter Chevrolet brand and one wearing the slightly more upscale GMC badge. The Chevy looks to get LED lighting elements for 2019, which ought to keep the truck from looking dated when compared to the Ford F-150 and the previously mentioned Ram 1500. From there we move past pickup trucks and into SUVs and sedans. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee looks to get toned down a bit with its next refresh, and the '19 BMW 3 Series continues its slow evolutionary journey at the top of its aspirational sales pedestal. Finally, spy shots give way to official production reveals for the 2019 Audi A7 and Polestar 1. This pair of European luxury cars won't compete with one another – one is a rakish hatchback and the other a sports coupe – any further than for the eyeballs of our readers, but both proved popular enough to merit inclusion in our weekly roundup. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2019 Ram 1500 spotted without the classic crosshairs 2019 Chevy Silverado spied with new LED accents 2019 Jeep Cherokee reveals a much more normal face 2019 BMW 3 Series spy shots reveal production lights, new interior details 2019 Audi A7 revealed: More torque, refined styling Polestar 1 First Look | The 600 horsepower hybrid Scandinavian Green Audi BMW Chevrolet Jeep RAM Volvo Truck Hatchback SUV Future Vehicles Hybrid Luxury Performance Sedan sunday drive polestar 1
Volvo dealers pushing for V40 in America [w/poll]
Mon, 26 Aug 2013Not too long ago, Volvo effectively replaced three models with one. Those were the C30, S40 and V50, and their replacement came in the form of the V40. While its predecessors were available (at some point, anyway) in North America, the V40 isn't. And that's something that Volvo's players in the US would like to change.
According to Automotive News, both Volvo Cars of North America and its dealers are pressing the factory to reverse its decision and prepare the V40 for an American assault on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. It's a game they won before with the current V60, which hasn't been available here, but is set to make the transatlantic voyage come the start of the new year.
This time, though, Volvo Cars of North America may have a bigger fight on its hands, because the V40 wasn't designed to meet US regulations. Getting it up to spec, then, may be a bigger challenge than it's worth. But if the American importer and dealer network makes its voice heard, the V40's replacement could be designed with US regulations in mind.
