Up for sale is a great little Volkswagen "THING". It it white in color  with black interior and top. It has 23,453 miles and originally came from Georgia. We have owned this car since 2003 and we got it partially disassembled with a bunch of extra parts included. It is a complete car that is running and driving, and quite a barrel of fun to take out for a cruise. If not from just the pleasurable ride but all the looks and comments are great. Overall it is in good condition and has had a lot of work done to it but there is still a few things that should be done if you want to restore it,but as a driver its great.

Things it could use would be shocks, front ball joints, a fresh paint job if desired and a new top if you so desire. The roll bar and top are currently off of the car, but will be coming with the car as the top material is not in the best condition. A replacement top can be purchased for roughly $600 dollars but that may have changed since I last checked. The ball joints are not expensive and I believe you could get shocks for $100-150 for all four. It has a small oil leak somewhere around the engine transmission area as seen in the pictures, but we have not investigated that yet. However it does not use oil, just leaks a little, probably as seals will seep a little over time when they aren't used much.  What old car doesn't need tinkered with a little here and there?

This great little car has just been a pleasure car since we have owned it and has not seen bad weather which has been a benefit to its current condition. As I said before, we purchased this car with 22,181 miles on it and it was partially disassembled. The 1600cc engine had been removed but was complete and the engine was checked over before being re-installed to make sure it was ok and still usable. Over time it has had a bunch of other items taken care of on it so that it remained a safe and good driver. These items are as follows in no particular order: new windshield and rubber surround; brake shoes, master cylinder, one wheel cylinder and emergency brake cable; new battery and regulator; the engine got new plugs, wires, points, condenser, belt and oil pressure sending unit; its had a new exhaust system installed; its had the front wheel bearings replaced; new floor pans installed; new shifter assembly and boot; new front seat belts and a new ignition switch. So mechanically it is in good condition and has been well taken care of. The tires are in great condition and the body was undercoated at one point in time before we owned it. There are no major rust issues, just two minor spots and a tiny bit of surface rust. All of which could be easily repaired or as I said, just driven as a fun car. The pictures will show these.

Also it comes with an extra engine,(condition unknown), a couple of other boxes of miscellaneous parts, and a tow bar. The spare tire and wheel are missing though.

To buy one with all of these done restored or in excellent condition and with similar options your looking at anywhere from $8000-17000 according to what I see listed on Ebay. With what I have listed on here, you would have approximately $2500 in repairs and paint plus the cost of $3950 brings it to roughly $6500. That's a pretty good savings to have over those already done cars and you have a great looking fun car to enjoy. Keep in mind my prices are rough estimates upon prior knowledge and could fluctuate, but they are reasonably close. So think about it, check out your own figures if you like and let me know what you think.

VW Group to split brands under four holding companies

Tue, Jun 16 2015

The Volkswagen Group is planning a tremendous shift in its internal structure that will decentralize operations by splitting its 12 brands into four different holding companies. Here's the breakdown. Things will be split logically, considering the inter-sharing of parts, platforms, and engines. The Volkswagen brand, Seat, and Skoda make up a passenger vehicle division led by former BMW man Herbert Diess. Audi, which is tightly intertwined with Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, will be managed by current Audi exec Rupert Stadler. Porsche and Bentley, which are already quite close, will be joined by Bugatti and run by Matthias Mueller. Finally, a commercial vehicles division will include Volkswagen Commercial, Scania, and Man. Former Daimler exec Andreas Renschler will take care of the big vehicles. The massive move, according to Automotive News Europe, is part of an internal VAG effort to move away from the structure established by ousted Chairman Ferdinand Piech, who favored a compact, but highly centralized, management structure to oversee the independent actions of the company's brands. Criticism of Piech's arrangement stemmed from the company's slow responses to changes in the market, ANE reports. The new structure should make for a more efficient, streamlined company that's better able to make crucial decisions. What are your thoughts? Should VAG decentralize, or did Piech have the right idea? Have your say in Comments.

VW teams up with legendary electronic musicians Kraftwerk for 3D Autobahn concert

Fri, Jan 9 2015

Electronic music fans know Kraftwerk. To paraphrase a famous TV anchor, they're kind of a big deal. The band is in the midst of an eight-concert show at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie, which includes a full 3D accompaniment. Why, you ask, is this on Autoblog, then? Well, Volkswagen is sponsoring it, highlighting the role that its iconic Beetle played on the band's equally iconic fourth album, Autobahn. And besides, it's Friday afternoon, and who doesn't want to listen to the soothing synth notes of early EDM pioneers? Check out the featurette on the connection between VW and Kraftwerk, and then for giggles, scroll down and give the first track of Autobahn a listen. This content is hosted by a third party. Cost-cutting measures put VW Beetle in jeopardy

Tue, Mar 10 2015

Volkswagen is on a mission to cut costs. That means producing more models across its various brands based on the same platforms and powertrains, but the latest word from Germany has it that it will also mean cutting some of the VW brand's less successful models. First on the chopping block, according to German publication Der Spiegel, is the three-door version of the Polo, which will reportedly cede its place to the five-door version exclusively. The elimination of that model alone is said to save VW a good 200 million euros, putting it on its way towards reducing the brand's costs by a targeted five billion euros. The Polo isn't the only one in danger, though. The Eos, as we know, is not due to be replaced, but the future of the Beetle could be in jeopardy as well. The Beetle may be one of VW's most iconic models, but is hardly its most successful in terms of sales. With the 2014 annual report due to be released shortly, the last full-year sales figures had Volkswagen selling 109,517 Beetles in 2013. That may be more than four times the number of Scirocco models it sold, but hardly puts a dent in the 871,413 Jettas, 824,629 Golfs and 725,291 Polos it sold during the same year.
