You are
bidding on a 1984 VW Rabbit. It has the 1.6L NA diesel engine and gets amazing
fuel economy. My wife and I saw an average of 50 mpg with it. The interior is
about as flawless as a 1984 could be. It has the original interior including
OEM rubber mats. No dashboard crack, or tears in the seats. A non-smoker has
always driven the car. There is some exterior rust that is only surface.
The undercarriage and strut pillars are rust free and in excellent shape. The
suspension has also been replaced with raceland coilovers that are ride height
adjustable and only have around 300 miles on them. In October of 2012 the car
had an issue with the cylinder head and a valve broke and fell into the
combustion chamber. Since, the engine has been completely rebuilt to OEM
specifications from the bottom end up.
The engine rebuild includes: Rods, pistons, piston rings, windage tray, water pump, injection pump replaced, timing belt, accessory belts, and all radiator hoses replaced. The head was completely rebuilt and professionally put together. It was professionally timed and runs well. You need to know that I am selling it because my wife and I are having a baby and I need something with airbags and a bit safer. Also, there is a coolant leak from between the head and the block. This could be due to 2 things: a warped head, either from the machinist or from bolting it down; or a cracked block. I believe the leak to be caused by a possibly warped head and it should be checked for flatness upon receiving the vehicle. The AC was never recharged, so
it either needs an R-12 recharge or a retrofit to R134a and it should run
great. Overall the car is great, it just needs a little attention under the hood to become completely road worthy once again. Take a look at the Rabbit below and see if you don't agree that it is a clean example of a classic VW. *Not pictured are 2 Fram air filters and complete air box housing as well as original OEM hubcaps, new ball joints, steering rack bushings, and tie rod ends. All come with the car to be installed! Search Rebuilt Rabbit
Running on youtube for a video of the car running.

Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'
Tue, 02 Apr 2013From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?
Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]
Thu, 10 Jan 2013Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.
Audi CEO says brand's EVs are almost as profitable as its other cars
Mon, Oct 4 2021After, oh, a hundred years or so of building vehicles primarily powered by internal combustion engines, automakers around the world have been and still are pumping billions of dollars into the development of electric vehicle technology. Everything from platforms and batteries to motors and the software to control it all requires untold hours of development, and that takes time and money. Fortunately, it's not going to take long for that massive investment to start paying off, at least according to Audi CEO Markus Duesmann, who told Reuters in an interview that "The point where we earn as much money with electric cars as with combustion engine cars is now, or ... next year, 2023. They are very even now, the prices." As a brand, Audi contributed more than a quarter of overall profit for the massive Volkswagen Group, which has such powerhouse brands as Volkswagen and Porsche among others. Under the Audi umbrella are Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati, and it seems those high-end branches aren't going anywhere, at least for now. "These brands ... are very valuable very profitable brands, where we can even expand the synergy level in the future," Duesmann said in the interview. "There are no plans whatsoever to get rid of them." Despite the overall profitability of the brand, the ongoing global chip crisis is causing headaches. "We had a very strong first half in 2021. We do expect a much weaker second half," said Duesmann, who added, "We really have trouble." In fact, so serious is the trouble that the brand is forced into "a day-to-day troubleshooting process" to limit the chip-shortage damage. The good news for the automaker is that Audi has been able to boost its profit margin from 8% prior to the pandemic in 2019 to 10.7% in the first half of 2021. The bad news is that various chip shortages aren't expected to get a whole lot better over the rest of the year. Related video:
