1980 Vw Rabbit Caddy Pickup Truck 1.8l Gasoline Automatic on 2040-cars
Clarksville, Tennessee, United States
1980 VW Rabbit Pick-up (Caddy) 1.8L 3 Speed Automatic This is being re-listed as the winning bidder had a family emergency (Verified), so was let off the hook after fixing me up with my eBay fees. The camper top is no longer for sale with the auction. I am keeping it for my other truck. This is a pretty solid truck. I came to own it through various trades. The strut towers, underside, are not rusted. The bed is solid and has been coated. The windshield is cracked. The paint is an amateur job and there are dings and some minor surface rust here and there. (See pictures). The 1.8 L engine runs good. The truck originally came with a 1.5 L engine that was physically the same on the outside as the 1.8L that is in there now. The transmission shifts like it is suppose to with the only problem being that the plastic speedo drive gear spins freely on the shaft. There is an access plate that can be removed to repair this issue without removing the transmission. Long story short the speedometer does not work. The front brake pads and rear shoes have been replaced. The front wheel bearings and tie rod assemblies have been replaced, and the rear wheel bearings have been cleaned and serviced as well. The tires are pretty good. Might need balancing. The truck has factory A/C and it works. Sort of. I pulled a vacuum on it, then serviced it with R134A refrigerant, and ran it for a while and it gets cold. High side pressure was and 275-300 psi, and low side was around 30 psi. I then removed the refrigerant to replace the receiver drier and never got around to it. I will throw in the new drier with the sale and gas the refrigerant back up for the winning bidder if that person wants. Over all this is a pretty nice little truck for it's age. I have owned several of these and currently have one that I drive which is a turbo diesel. This one is the only automatic I have ever seen, and we use to work on a lot of them. Please ask any additional questions you may have prior to bidding. The winning bidder is responsible for pick up and I will help load either for the winning bidder or any shipper the winning bidder hires to pick it up. Will not ship. Local pick up is fine. I wouldn't be afraid to drive just about anywhere.
This truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction early bids or not. Well, Thanks for looking, and good luck.

Feds allege widespread Volkswagen cheating on clean-air rules
Fri, Sep 18 2015Volkswagen intentionally installed software in nearly a half-million diesel vehicles that helped the cars evade substandard results on emissions tests, the federal government charged Friday. The Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice of violation to the German automaker, saying the company's software broke the law by violating two provisions in the Clean Air Act. Circumventing the standards meant affected cars emitted as much as 40 times the allowable level of certain pollutants. Both the EPA and California Air Resources Board have launched investigations. In its notice of violations, the EPA said Volkswagen officials admitted to installing and concealing what they call a "defeat device," which was designed to detect when the cars were undergoing official emissions tests – and only turn on emissions controls during that time. "Our goal now is to ensure that the affected cars are brought into compliance, to dig more deeply into the extent and implications of Volkswagen's efforts to cheat on clean air rules, and to take appropriate further action," said Richard Corey, executive officer of CARB. The allegations cover approximately 482,000 vehicles sold in the United States over the past seven years. Cars involved include diesel versions of the Jetta, Beetle, Audi A3 and Golf manufactured between the 2009 and 2015 model years. Passats manufactured for the 2014 and 2015 model years are also included. Federal officials note there is no safety danger to motorists, but the cars will be recalled for repairs. If true, Volkswagen faces a fine that could run in the hundreds of millions of dollars -- likely higher than the $300 million charge the EPA levied last November at Hyundai and Kia for exaggerating the fuel-economy in several models. The charges also put a tremendous dent into the company's plans to increase sales of its "Clean Diesel" vehicles in North America. In a written statement, Volkswagen Group of America acknowledged it had received the notices from the EPA and CARB. "VW is cooperating with the investigation; we are unable to comment further at this time," it said. Federal officials said the defeat-device software was uncovered during an independent analysis by researchers at West Virginia University, who in working with the International Council on Clean Transportation, a non-governmental organization, raised questions about emissions levels.
VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation
Tue, 11 Nov 2014After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.
VW brands excluded from Wards 10 Best Engines for 2016
Tue, Oct 6 2015You definitely won't be seeing a powerplant from Volkswagen or Audi on the 2016 Ward's 10 Best Engines list. In a serious rebuke against them, WardsAuto is excluding all VW/Audi powertrains for at least this year after the German automakers' ongoing emissions regulations evasions. There's no guarantee of the companies returning for 2017, either. In a story on its website, WardsAuto executive editor Tom Murphy writes that the ban lasts "until we are convinced the culture of deceit has been purged, fines have been paid and regulators are satisfied." That could be a while, the way things are looking. The exclusion knocks three powertrains out of the running for this year's list. As a winner last year, WardsAuto would usually test VW's 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder again for 2016. Plus, it planned to check out the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the Audi A6 and the plug-in hybrid from the A3 Sportback E-Tron. In the story, Murphy finds VW's actions particularly despicable because of what they could be doing to the popularity of diesel passenger cars in this country. "BMW, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, and Fiat Chrysler also sell light-duty diesel engines in the US, but their sales outlook suddenly has grown murky, thanks to VW's shenanigans," he writes. So far, Jaguar Land Rover is remaining confident of US consumers continuing to buy diesel models, though. We'll be able to see the real effects of VW and Audi's ban in a few months because the 2016 Ward's 10 Best Engines will be published December 10. With two major automakers out of the running, their rivals will likely greet this as a better chance to make the grade.
