this is a 1979 vw rabbit, it is a good car i have been driving it 2 years. i would drive 400 miles a week and all was good. since it has no heater or ac it would be parked in the winter and even though the windows have to be rolled down with pliers they still work well.It is hard to start the longer it sets, it gets air in the fuel line and i am not sure if the glow plugs even work but even when its cold it still starts but you may have to start it 3 or 4 times before it will stay running. runs and drives good a little noisey from the exhaust pipe and road noise.the dash is cracked all up from the sun. the widshield has some chips and it leaks a little bit when it rains. the tires are not to bad but they could use a rotation the one on the back have more tread than the ons on the front. it probaly could use some brake pads i have drove it about 50000 miles and havent done anything with them. it smokes on start up but stops quickly also smokes if you floor it at high rpm (all black smoke).its got rust under the back and inside the trunk i tried to seal it with rubber coating but i can still see some coming through.it has a dent in the back passenger side and several dings in other places. it has a primer spot on the hood the guy i bought it off of said the battery shorted out and caught the insulation on fire so some of the stuff under the hood got melted, but it has not seemed to effect the way it performes. i put a lower cost cold air intake on in and it seem to have helped the mpg, i have been getting 40-50 it just depends on hard the wind is blowing. the fan is set up on a switch in the dash it will stay cool with no fan most the time but at temps in the summer i just leave it on all the time never had any temp trouble out of it.i have changed the oil every 5000 miles and used lucus each time.the odometer works when it wants to, so, scents i knew how far it was to school thats what i used for mileage.the hatchback window don't stay up on its own so the lucky winner gets the board that i been using at no extra cost. there is a spare tire but there is no rim inside that tire(glad i never had a flat). the window tint maybe illegal where you live it's dark and mirrored and old, or custom depending on how you look at it.the paint is is faded. the back window heater don't work.the radio and CB work and all the guages and clock. the seats are in good shape.this car is old and i am not a mechanic (especally diesel mech.) i have rigged stuff to work and put up with other stuff i could'nt rig. the car would probbly make a cross county trip but i sure don't know if i could handle driving it cross the country. this is an as is car. would be a good wvo car if somone wanted to try it.if you have any questions just ask and i will get with you as soon as i can.

VW may move production because of Russia's cutoff of natural gas

Sun, Sep 25 2022

Volkswagen AG is exploring ways to counter a shortage in natural gas, including shifting production around its network of global facilities, signaling how the energy crisis unleashed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine threatens to upend EuropeÂ’s industrial landscape. Volkswagen, EuropeÂ’s biggest carmaker, said Thursday that reallocating some of its production was one of the options available in the medium term if gas shortages last much beyond this winter. The company has major factories in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which are among European countries most reliant on Russian gas, as well as facilities in southern Europe that source energy from elsewhere. “As mid-term alternatives, we are focusing on greater localization, relocation of manufacturing capacity, or technical alternatives, similar to what is already common practice in the context of challenges related to semiconductor shortages and other recent supply chain disruptions,” Geng Wu, VolkswagenÂ’s head of purchasing, said in a statement.  RussiaÂ’s decision to throttle gas supplies to Europe has raised concerns that Germany might be forced to ration its fuel. Recent news that gas storage levels hit 90% ahead of schedule has soothed fears of acute shortages this winter, but Germany faces a challenge in replenishing depleted reserves next summer without contributions from Russia. Southwestern Europe or coastal zones of northern Europe, both of which have better access to seaborne liquefied natural gas cargoes, could be the beneficiaries of any production shift, a Volkswagen spokesman said by phone. The Volkswagen group already operates car factories in Portugal, Spain and Belgium, countries that host LNG terminals. Labor hurdles To be sure, any major production shift away from EuropeÂ’s biggest economy would face significant hurdles. VW has some 295,000 employees in Germany and worker representatives account for around half the companyÂ’s 20-member supervisory board. Any shift in production would likely involve a limited number of vehicles rather than wholesale factory shutdowns. While gas supplies for VWÂ’s plants are currently secured, the company has identified potential savings at its European sites to cut gas consumption by a “mid-double-digit percentage,” said Michael Heinemann, managing director of VWÂ’s power-plant unit. Still, the carmaker said it was concerned about the effect high gas prices could have on its suppliers.

Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Sun, Jul 9 2023

The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric.  Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands.  If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla.  Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor.  Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have:  Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.
