This 2005 TDI wagon needs absolutely no repairs or conditioning and has had oil and filter changes every 10,000 miles using only genuine Total Quartz 504/507 5/30w oil and German made Mann filters. If you are a TDI lover you know what I'm talking about. If not, it just means that with this maintenance these engines easily go 300,000 miles. 
The car has 139,998 miles on it.
All of the following maintenance have been serviced recently: New constant velocity joints, rubber boots, front wheel bearings, brake pads, fluid and rotors, alignment, new tension pulley, all new belts, glow plugs, and all new under cowlings, and a new hood liner. 
The timing belt and water pump were all replaced at 90,000 miles. The  battery and  tires are 75% new (Les Schwab, 80,000 mile all-season radials). This car has always run perfectly, and has a completely straight body with no dings, no accidents, excellent paint (some rock chips on the hood) with still bright clear coat, good clean upholstery, new full-size spare tire, CD and cassette/FM high fidelity sound. The hazy headlight assembles were replaced new 2 years ago to give the headlights that crystal clear "showroom" glow. Nothing needs to be done to this car. I have always used a MightyVac pump to change the oil and filter from the top without getting dirty and without having to go under the car or remove the cowlings, and I can describe how you can DIY and save lots of money. The only reason I had the cowlings replaced is because the one time I had Jiffy Lube do the job they did not put them back on correctly and they fell off on the highway!!!
We average 34 mpg to and from work, with 42 mpg on trips to the coast (62 mph speed limit) and 38 mpg on summer trips to the Columbia Gorge (70 mph speed limit). We just bought a new SUV diesel and it is time to sell the Passat after enjoying it for the last 80,000 miles. Remember,  it's in great condition but it is a used car and has minor blemishes accumulated over the last 139000 miles. Thanks for looking.

Volkswagen has presented a list of near-term technologies to improve fuel economy and decrease emissions. The list includes an addition to a coasting function in its stop-start system, a 10-speed DSG transmission and a more power-dense four-cylinder TDI engine. Volkswagen aims to be the world's most sustainable automaker by 2018 through electric mobility, improved design and increased environmental performance from internal combustion vehicles. Commence Pence is a system that allows subway riders in London to donate their unused transit money to charity. People visiting the city often load up enough on their subway card (called Oyster Card) to get them through their trip and end up with unused funds leftover. Zander Whitehurst, a British designer, has created a device that can use the card's RFID to accept leftover funds, which then get diverted to charity rather than reverting back to the agency in charge of running the subway fare system. See the video below or read more at Wired. Mike Jackson, CEO of AutoNation has called Michigan's efforts to ban Tesla's direct sales in the state "unnecessary protectionism." The statement comes as a bit of a surprise, as it dissents from the majority of auto dealers who support a franchise model, as well as laws that forbid automakers selling directly to the consumer. "If Elon Musk wants to make a mistake and go with an inefficient distribution system, that's his right as an American," says Jackson, showing he feels he has little to fear from the electric automaker. How VW's hyper-efficient XL1 will influence the next Golf

In 2007, the European Union mandated fleet average CO2 emissions of 158.7 g/km. For 2015, that figure will drop to 130 g/km, and the target for 2020 is an ambitions 95 g/km. Thanks to some German politicking, that target will be phased in from 2020 to 2024, but it will still apply to 80 percent of passenger cars in that first year. In US miles per gallon, that's the equivalent of going from about 35 mpg to 42 mpg to 57 mpg. The current Volkswagen Golf is rated from 85 g/km of CO2 to 190 g/km depending on model - and zero for the e-Golf, so for the next-generation MkVIII hatch due in 2019, to meet the goal, Volkswagen engineers will need to introduce a bunch of new tricks. According to a report in Autocar, VW be mining its hyper-efficient XL1 for some of them.
Predictions for the next Golf include a variable-compression engine, an electric flywheel and an electric turbo, along with taking greater advantage of coasting. Volkswagen could be getting help from Audi with the electric turbo and variable-compression engine and electric turbo, with Audi already having shown off the former and brand technical boss Ulrich Hackenberg confirming the VW Group is working on the latter. It's possible the flywheel system could also have the mark of The Four Rings: Autocar mentions a British system that Volvo is testing, but the R18 e-tron Quattro racer has been using one for years.
The need for such features is because the company won't be able to net enough future gains from just aerodynamic improvements and advanced materials. As price will be a factor (the regulations are expected to "add hundreds of euros to the cost of building a car"), adding much more aluminum or carbon fiber is an unlikely option. We're told the next generation won't be longer or wider than the current car, and being Europe's most popular model, VW doesn't want to make a big bet on futuristic aero, but the report says the MkVIII will "likely" have "the most aerodynamic treatment yet seen on a production vehicle," the area where lessons learned from the XL1 will truly be seen.
