1998 Volkswagen Passat GLS Station Wagon TDI SWAPPED Manual 5 speed transmission.

This 1998 Passat started life as a 1.8t gas / 5 speed car.   It was converted to a TDI ( turbo diesel ) by a professional shop on the east coast.  I did NOT do the swap. I am pretty knowledgeable about this car, but please do not message me asking technical questions about swapping your car.   Specific questions about this car are of course welcome and if there is something i do not know, i might be able to consult the shop that built the car 2 years ago.

1998 Volkswagen Passat TDI
AHU Turbo-diesel engine

This car has been excellently maintained and has had the following recent maintenance:
-Timing belt, water pump, etc.
-Lifters
-ALL engine seals, fresh oil change
-Sachs Clutch kit
-Brake hoses (common B5 wear item)
-Fuel & Air filter
-Gear oil
-New Cat converter, downpipe, flex joint
-Rear struts
-Front control arms
-Rebuilt Alternator ( 120 AMP )
-New Battery
-New Fuel sending unit
-Tires are less than a year old

Car has functional and COLD Ac , cruise control works as it should , no CEL ( check engine light ) , all the power windows work , central locking works ( automatic door locks )  Comes with 2 factory Keys.  I have installed an Alpine CD player that has a USB cord going into the glove box to hook up iphone / ipod or other music device.

I just did an 18 hour road trip last month -  and a 4 hour road trip this last monday.   Get in and GO -     This car has got 44-46 MPG's highway / interstate around 37 city / mixed.

I listed quite a few things in the " WHATS WRONG " section above.    I hope that does not deter someone as this is a great looking car that runs awesome and probably forever. This Passat is my daily driver for hauling kids to school , me to work and the spontaneous road family road trip.

As I was confirming this listing I realized that I have installed a small car Rockford Amp that is hooked up to a small removable 10" Subwoofer you can see in the back.  The Amp is mounted under the front dash and speaker wire is ran to the back so it can be easily be removed.  I was going to keep this AMP / SUB - but at BUY IT NOW price it can stay or new owner can talk to me about it.

There is a spare tire , the jack and tools are all present.  All the storage compartments in the rear open / close as they should.   I did a quick " CLEAN " of the interior but did not Vacuum it out - it will be vacuumed before new owner picks up the car.

Rims and tires are in great shape - the tires are 205-55-16's on factory newer Passat wheels.

SOLD AS IS WHERE IS - which is in LINCOLN NEBRASKA - 68516 -
Car is titled , licensed and insured in my name.
If you require shipping - buyer must arrange and pay for the shipping - I can work with a shipping company as long as they are reasonable with my busy work / family schedule.  Car must be paid for in FULL before picked up or driven away.

If you have additional questions - the ebay message system is great way to get ahold of me -  if you want to call - 402-953-2671 - NO TEXT message and you have to leave a VOICEMAIL and i will call you back.

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.

2020 Virtual Geneva Motor Show Editors' Picks

Fri, Mar 6 2020

There may not have been an actual Geneva Motor Show this year, but there were still loads of car reveals that happened the week that the show would have happened. So we still wanted to highlight what our favorites of the would-be show. Our list of cars seemed to match the theme of the reveals, too, highlighting over-the-top supercars and forward thinking electric vehicles. Scroll down to see our favorites. Fifth Place: Aston Martin V12 Speedster - 21 points Managing Editor, Greg Rasa: Astons are works of art, and this one's ready for the Louvre. The design nods to Aston history are nifty. It looks like a jet fighter, except those have canopies. Not sure what 186 mph would be like in this, but don't try it in summer when there are bugs. Contributing Editor, Joe Lorio: Admittedly, this one is a little silly. A $950,000 sports car with no roof? A 700-hp two-seater with no windshield? But the offerings at the Geneva auto show have always tilted toward absurdity, and Aston’s V12 Speedster is endearingly outrageous as a fighter plane for the street. Third Place (Tie): Volkswagen ID.4 - 26 points Senior Producer, Chris McGraw: I don't have much to say about this other than I am a huge fan of more EVs coming to the market, which is why two-thirds of my picks are electric, including the ID.4. Producer, Alex Malberg: Any new fully-electric crossover is a vote for me. The fact it doesn't look terrible and VW will be including AWD later are bonuses.  Third Place (Tie): Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA - 26 points Road Test Editor, Zac Palmer: Hard to argue with the logic of this one. The Giulia Quadrifoglio is already the best driver in this class of hot sedans, so why not extend the lead with a special model. That wing is Type R levels of high, and I completely approve. Associate Editor, Byron Hurd: Love this car. Love it, love it, love it. It's beautiful, aggressive and fast. I'd take it over an M3 or C63 any day. As cool as the GTAm is, though, I'd rather stick to the four-seat GTA. Something about a four-door car with two seats just doesn't really work for me. I haven't alienated ALL of my friends quite yet. Second Place: Hyundai Prophecy - 35 points Senior Editor, Green, John Snyder: I get whiffs of the Genesis Coupe from this sleek concept. I like the focus on form, with interesting details to discover if you look for them. West Coast Editor, James Riswick: Does it look like a Porsche? Sure, but Porsches look neat.

The mood at this year’s Paris Motor Show: Quiet

Tue, Oct 2 2018

The Paris Motor Show, held every other year in the early fall, typically kicks off the annual cavalcade of automotive conclaves, one that traverses the globe between autumn and spring, introducing projective, conceptual and production-ready vehicle models to the international automotive press, automotive aficionados and a public hungry for news of our increasingly futuristic mobility enterprise. But this year, at the press preview days for the show, the grounds of the Porte de Versailles convention center felt a bit more sparsely populated than usual. This was not simply a subjective sensation, or one influenced by the center's atypically dispersed assemblage of seven discrete buildings, which tends to spread out the cars and the crowds. There were not only fewer new vehicles being premiered in Paris this year, there were fewer manufacturers there to display them. Major mainstream European OEM stalwarts such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Nissan and Volkswagen chose to sit out Paris this year, as did boutique manufacturers like Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is not simply based in some antipathy on the part of the German, British and Italian manufacturers toward the French market — though for a variety of historical and societal reasons that market may be more dominated by vehicles produced domestically than others. Rather, it is part of a larger trend in the industry. Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would not be participating in the flagship North American International Auto Show in 2019 — and that it might not return. Other brands including Jaguar/Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mazda and nearly every exotic carmaker have also departed the Detroit show. Some of these brands will still appear in the city in which the show is taking place, and host an event offsite, to capitalize on the presence of a large number of reporters in attendance. And even brands that do have a presence at the show have shifted their vehicle introductions to the days before the official press opening in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. In many ways, this makes sense. With an expanding number of automakers, with diversification and niche-ification of models and with wholesale shifts that necessitate the introduction of EV or autonomous sub-brands, there is a growing sense that, with everyone shouting at the same time, no one can be heard.
