You've found an 2005 Volkswagen Passat TDI GLS Station Wagon that has lived it's one owner life in south Florida. The original owner is a VW guy, previous cars and the replacements to this were VW's. He was lucky enough to have lived near a dealership that is quite familiar with not only TDI's but Passat TDI's. When the engine started to show signs of a worn balance shaft chain they new just what to do. They replaced it with the factory fix for the weak link of these cars, a gear driven drive system. For those who don't know bad things can happen if this isn't done, don't buy a 04-05 Passat that has not had this addressed without budgeting around $3000.00 for repairs. Now that this has been done it is ready to be driven. These are one of VW's best driving cars in my opinion and the only years (04 & 05) you can get a TDI wagon without going back to a 96 or 97. These are actually a German built VW unlike most and yes, it does make a difference in quality and workmanship. The timing belt, water pump service and gear'ed balance shaft were all done at 83k miles so that should give you roughly 40k to 50k before needed. The reflex silver paint shows nicely and the body is in very good condition and looks to be all original, I would say it is well above average condition for an 2005. Inside the gray interior is clean and looks very presentable although the previous owner used his wagon as it was designed to be used. By this I mean he did haul things in it so the rear compartment does have minor scuff marks from sliding cargo in and out. The drivers compartment does show minor wear but nothing more than anyone would expect on a used car. The only flaw I would think to mention would be there is the smell of what I believe to be hay if the car sits for a couple of days with the windows up and then you turn on the A/C when starting. To me it's much less noticeable than a smokers car and the smell does go away shortly after driving. These cars are hard to find partly because they only imported so few of them and partly because they are Bio diesel friendly. The reason I enjoy the B5.5 series Passat's is that they are actually fun to drive, the 2.0l turbo diesel makes great power and is actually quick which in turn makes them great on the open road. There is no comparison to a jetta due to the larger size and much better ride. Many people report low 40MPG on the road and high 20's to low 30's in town. Bottom line, these are great cars and this is a nice example although not perfect it's priced right.

Volkswagen officially grants access to UAW in Tennessee
Tue, Dec 9 2014An audit at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN has revealed that at least 45 percent of the facility's workers support unionization, leading the German company to grant access rights to the United Auto Workers. This is a tremendous step in the UAW's long-running and at times contentious pursuit of the workforce at Chattanooga. With this latest move, "local leadership is ready to move forward with additional conversations with the company," the union said in a statement obtained by The Detroit News. "As a starting point, UAW Local 42 will take advantage of the company's offer to establish bi-weekly meetings with Volkswagen Human Resources and the Volkswagen Chattanooga Executive Committee." The News reports that UAW Secretary-Treasurer Gary Casteel, shown above speaking at the Chattanooga plant last summer, claimed these meetings "will remind Human Resources and the Chattanooga Executive Committee of the mutually agreed-upon commitments that were made by Volkswagen and the UAW last spring in Germany. Among those commitments: Volkswagen will recognize the UAW as the representative of our members. We believe Volkswagen made this commitment in good faith and we believe the company will honor this commitment." It's important to note that despite Casteel's remarks, this is not a collective-bargaining agreement, Harley Shaiken, a labor professor at University of California, Berkeley, told The News. "But it is a step in the direction of recognition, which ultimately could lead to collective bargaining. This is not the end point," Shaiken said. "We don't know what's next. We're in unchartered territory."
