For sale we have a rare 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible. We acquired this car in New Hampshire where it was stored in a barn then traded in for a newer vehicle. The car runs and drives. I personally drove it few miles myself over the weekend and loved the car as it is fun to drive. It has the 4-Speed manual transmission. Tranny shifts good thru all the gears, clutch grabs strong with no slippages. Top goes up and down manually. The paint is not original. The body looks in OK shape for the year, the floors are solid, interior shows wear and tear for the age, this would be a perfect car to restore or just drive it the way it is if you don't want to spend the money. I apologize for the low quality photos- the weather hasn't been the greatest. Motor sounds healthy, transmission is perfect, the car runs and drives good but as you can see due to its age it's starting to show wear and tear.

Inspection fees if any are Buyers responsibility. 6) Representations and Warranties made by seller: This vehicle is being sold "as is". Contact us for any questions No representations or warranties are made by seller, nor are any representations or warranties relied upon by bidders in making bids. 7) Taxes and Registration fees: Out of state buyers are responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title service fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. All taxes and fees must be paid in full in order for vehicle to be titled and registered. We do charge a processing fee $300.00 for all title documents in order to cover charges we pay to the state as well as other fees incurred during the process. For Out of State (Non-CT Resident)that fee is $300 for all vehicles. These fees are non-negotiable. CT Residents are also required to pay 6.35% Sales Tax at our location at the time of sale. Non-Residents are not subject to the CT Sales Tax. 8) Title Information: Vehicles titles may be held by banks or lenders as collateral for loans. In many cases there is a delay in receiving the original instruments up to 21 days from the time we pay a vehicle off. While we usually have all titles in our possession at closing, there are occasions where we may be waiting for them to arrive. If payment is made by cashier's or personal checks we will hold all titles for 10 days or until funds have cleared. 9) Shipping & Delivery: All shipping charges are buyer's responsibility, we will help with shipping arrangements but will not be responsible in any way for claims arising from shipping damage! All shipping arrangements are made via 3rd Party Liscensed Broker. Licensed Carriers are generally insured for $3,000,000.00. We assume no responsibility for damages incurred after the vehicle leaves our showroom or any delays in shipping for any reason. We are not affiliated with any carrier. Any claims or other communication regarding shipment of vehicles will be between you and the shipper. The amount of time it takes for delivery is dependent on the carrier, but is generally 5-21 days from the date the vehicle is picked up from our facility until it is delivered to your destination. Verify with the shipper for an Estimate Time of Arrival to be sure. 10) Finalizing your Purchase: We will contact the successful high bidder by e-mail after the auction closes. Successful high bidder MUST communicate with us by e-mail or phone to make arrangements to complete their transaction and leave a deposit. This deposit is needed to secure your purchase and must be done within 24 hours of the auctions close. We reserve the right to relist this vehicle or sell to any other qualified buyer before purchase is secured. We will use all available recourse to recover lost fees. Deposit will be in the amount of $500.00 by major credit card, cash in person, or bank certified funds (no refunds on deposit unless the car is found to be not as advertised). Failure to leave a deposit within the specified time frame will result in relisting of the vehicle and the bidder being charged Ebays final value fee and any fees associated with relisting the vehicle. Within 72 hours of bid closing, Buyer must send balance of funds by bank wire transfer, cash in person, bank certified funds to Seller. If Deposit is made but payment is not finalized in time allowed in these terms then the car may be relisted and your deposit will be forfeited to us unless other arrangements have been made with us. If Buyer changes mind at any point after deposit is made for any reason the deposit will be forfeit. At time of sending initial deposit, Buyer is to fax copy of their State issued valid Driver License. Furthermore, before said vehicle is released for shipment to Buyer, all other Sale related and title related paperwork must be signed and documented Seller. 11) All vehicles are sold as-is through. Please also note that a storage fee of $25 per day will be charged starting one week from conclusion of auction unless arrangements are made either in writing or via email that state otherwise. No title will be released until this bill is paid in full. If your travel arrangements prevent you from getting the vehicle within that time frame contact us FIRST. Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?
Thu, 26 Jul 2012Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.
BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept previews new midsize CUV... again
Sun, Jan 11 2015Volkswagen has taken a big step towards the long-awaited second model to be built at its Chattanooga, TN factory, introducing the two-row Cross Coupe GTE Concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The relatively handsome two-row crossover borrows its basic styling language from the CrossBlue Concept that launched at the 2013 Detroit show (that we later had a brief chance to drive), and the CrossBlue Coupe from that year's Shanghai Motor Show. To be entirely frank, it just looks like a much more production-ready version of the Shanghai concept. The more aggressive elements of that model, like its rear taillights, rounded wheel arches, and aggressive front and rear fascias, have been toned down considerably. In other words, this concept almost wouldn't look out of place on the average road. Changes in the cabin are similarly minor, with the same basic design as the CrossBlue, complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. While it's still quite clearly a concept car interior, it's not hard to imagine VW transitioning this cockpit into a production model. Riding atop the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture – making it a relative, albeit distant, of cars like the VW Golf, Audi TT and the Euro-market Passat – the Cross Coupe GTE is motivated by a 3.6-liter VR6 that's been mated to not one, but two electric motors (one on each axle). The gas engine offers up 276 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the front axle's electric motor generates 54 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, and the rear can deliver a more robust 114 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. That cacophony can be easily boiled down to this: the Cross Coupe GTE has a total system output of 355 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough to get the five-seater to 60 miles per hour in six seconds, on to a top speed of 130 miles per hour. As a plug-in hybrid, though, there's more to the Cross Coupe GTE then just its power output. Range plays a big role, and in that regard, this concept is fairly average. It can cover 20 miles when its 14.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery is charged up. Beyond that, the drivetrain can be set to a number of modes to optimize the behavior of plug-in-hybrid powertrain. In E-Mode, which can be locked in via a battery hold/battery charge mode, all 20 miles of range are available, although the Cross Coupe's driver will only have the 114-hp rear axle electric motor to work with.
