Stunning 1968 Karmann Ghia Convertible Hot Vws Cover Car 1904 Engine Fuchs on 2040-cars
Sparks, Nevada, United States
1968 Volkswagen VW Karmann Ghia Convertible (Vert) May 2004 Hot VWs Cover Car http://www.hotvws.com/backIssues3.php?bID=438 Stunning, head turning, unique, 60s car. Car has REAL Porsche Fuchs wheels with cookie cutters on the front. 1904 High Performance Engine, with Dual Carburetors, Weber 44 IDFs. (The car previously had 51 IDAs on it). Hydraulic clutch. Over 80 hours of custom porting and head machine work. Car has a low race car "growl" when you drive it. Aluminum high performance exhaust (1 5/8") Has brand new gray top, top boot, and headliner. Take an opportunity to own a real classic car. Downright awesome. Runs great, with all electrical working. Has grant racing steering wheel and JVC stereo system (but no speakers in the car). Custom colored upholstery in red, orange, and gray. Gene Berg shifter. A great opportunity to own an awesome car. Great car to cruise in (Hot August Nights or Bugorama) or go out and play with the rice burners. Make those VW bug, thing, beetle, and van drivers gawk at you. Condition Car is somewhere between a 9.5 and 9.6 out of 10. Car was a full frame off restoration (at over $60,000) as documented in the May 2004, hot VWs article. The attached pictures document the condition. Obviously, for a 1968 car, this is an astounding specimen. It is great to feel the wind in your hair and to get the looks like you are driving a Ferrari. Paint is popping red and makes the car look breathtaking. Background I inherited a '67 Karmann Ghia when I got married. The car was "rough" with rusted pans and an engine that ran poorly. As a result, I moved 7 times and the car never ran. It became the collection point for our Christmas decorations and was just the "junker" in the garage. After cleaning out the mouse nest out of the car, I was put at the crossroads of fixing the car or junking it. While looking at my options (and just attending Hot August Nights), I was able to find this restored 1968 car. After a soccer game with the kids in 2011, I had the valet bring around this beauty to give to my wife. After the joy died down, she reminded me that I had to still restore the 1967 junker anyway. With it being 2014, I have two more teenage drivers and two more cars, and a really tough Homeowners Association that doesn't allow me to park on the street. Accordingly, I have to sell this awesome car. The previous owner, used to drag race this car. The car didn't run very well in Reno and I invested $1500 and put more streetable IDF carburetor set up on it beyond the original 51 IDAs. However, the engine would take the 51 IDAs. The car has a tach and a wide footprint in the back. I had my VW mechanic raise the car, given that it was too low previously. The stiff hydraulic clutch is still there and is a reminder that this is not a normal VW. I have another ghia (as mentioned) that has a 2276 that dyno-ed out at 155 HP and this car is much faster than that one. I have driven this car very little (less than 100 miles) since I owned it. I have clean title. It is ready to go for the season. My biggest reservation about this car is having someone steal it. I love this car, and you will too. Will throw in some extra copies of the May 2004 Hot VWs magazine for you. I appreciate that buying some things on ebay is tough. I have fully disclosed all I know about the car. Please no crazy low offers and no flakes. Don't bid unless you plan on buying. I will coordinate with your shipper. If you decide to buy it now, I will cover US domestic shipping to your door.

Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]
Fri, 14 Dec 2012Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.
VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives
Tue, Dec 23 2014Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli
Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover
Sat, Jan 18 2014It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party.
