1971 VW Karmann Ghia Project Car

This California car was found at an estate sale in Palm Springs. It has keys and does not have a title, it will be sold on a bill of sale only. The engine turns over, it is not seized. We have not tried starting it.

The previous owner was in the car business all of his life and this was one of his last project cars. The Karmann Ghia is exceptionally straight and having been under it I believe it to be a no hit car. The car has had one repaint in its original yellow. It wasn't the greatest job, but it certainly is passable.

The Karmann Ghia comes with a lot of hard to find and expensive parts. I believe that almost all of the parts to finish the project are there. The engine looks to have been recently done, but I have no way of proving that other than by the looks of it.

The odometer shows 67,XXX miles. From the looks of things, I believe that to be accurate. The car has been sitting for a long while. But it rolls freely. You will have to tow it home.

As you can see from the pictures this is a chrome bumper car. They could use a shine but are decent. There is minimal surface rust but no rust issues.

The glass is all original. The body panels are all original. If you're looking for an easy project and for a car that will do nothing but appreciate this is your car.

Dyno run hints VW GTI power might be significantly underrated

Are you one of the lucky owners of the 2015 Volkswagen GTI? If yes, you should be happy, because your 210- or 220-horsepower hot hatchback might actually have more like 260 ponies under its hood. That's according to a dyno test from a vendor on, of all places, a Ford Focus ST enthusiast forum. The company is estimating a 15-percent drivetrain loss with the GTI's best result a whopping 263 horsepower and 314 pound-feet of torque at the crank. That's a tremendous difference from the 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque that Volkswagen claims. Of course, this is merely one dyno session on one car. We'll have to wait until more 2015 GTI owners get on the rolling road to see if Volkswagen really was as conservative about its hot hatch's output as FocusST.org claims. VW debuts Get Happy Super Bowl ad

Brace yourself for another tidal wave of Super Bowl commercials. Volkswagen has released its spot for this year's big game. Set to air during the second quarter, the Get Happy spot follows one jubilant office worker as he makes his way through the day, spreading joy wherever he goes. The source of his happiness? A Volkswagen Beetle, of course. Now, if you're wondering why a gaggle of white guys are running around on your screen with Jamaican accents, it will help to know the spot is part of a larger Get Happy campaign featuring Jimmy Cliff.
The first ad in the series featured the artist singing his rendition of "C'Mon, Get Happy," complete with a little help from some notorious unhappy YouTube stars. You can take a look at the new ad before it airs below, along with the complete press release for a little more background.

Lamborghini and Bentley may hold off on SUVs so VW can conserve cash

After surveying the European economic scene, Volkswagen may have decided now is not the time to launch utility vehicles with Bentley and Lamborghini badges. Bentley officials say they will continue to push for support for the EXP 9 F and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman has said planning for the Urus will continue until VW tells it to stop.
That decision could come on November 23, when VW's board will vote on the company's budget for equipment, factories and vehicles. With VW's sales slowing and the Euro economy slumping further, some industry watchers say the company is more likely to build its cash reserves than to introduce super-expensive luxury SUVs or crossovers.
"Such vehicles are anything but obligatory during a crisis," says Frankfurt-based Equinet AG analyst Tim Schuldt in a new Automotive News Europe story. "Delaying their launch would be no drama but help save costs."
