Here is a great example of the rare Volkswagen Karmann Ghia! You don't see these cruising around very often. This 1973 model is perfect for the VW enthusiast who has been searching for a good specimen, or somebody who just wants a car that you don't see everyday. Maybe you need the perfect vehicle to cruise the boulevard with you and your friends, or you might be looking for something that is good on gas, but is not a boring, dime-a-dozen econo-box. This is the car for you!
This Ghia is powered by a 1914cc air-cooled boxer four motor that gets great gas mileage while still providing ample power to get you down the highway at brisk speeds. The engine is fed by dual Delardo carbs, and starts up to a smooth idle. The Ghia is a rear-wheel drive vehicle that is controlled by an Empi shifter that goes smoothly into all 4 gears. The car sounds great with the Bugpack exhaust installed on it.
This VW turns a lot of heads! Not just because of the unique styling of the Ghia, but also because of the nice paint job. It is a deep, fire engine red that really stands out. The imperfections on the paint and body are a fraction of what you would expect of a car that is 40 years old. The black VW wheels compliment the look of the Ghia, and the tires are in great shape. Rust is a minor issue on this vehicle due to it being a California car. All of the chrome is in good shape, and it does retain all of its emblems. The exterior is a 9 out of 10.
Inside, this VW is pretty much stock except for the CD player that provides your cruising tunes. The front seats provide plenty of support while also being very comfortable, but do have some minor wear as seen in the pictures. The carpet, door paneling, dash, and gauges all look good, but would require some attention if you wanted to completely restore it. The odometer shows 33,633 but has probably flipped since it is only 5 digits. All the glass is good, but the headliner is original and does show wear. Overall, I would rate the interior a 7.5 out of 10.
So don't let your chance to drive a truly rare car at a low price pass you by! Be confident that this car is as described. But please remember, even though this VW is in good shape both mechanically and cosmetically, it is 40 years old and is not perfect. The new owner will be happy with his or her new car. I will answer all questions as quickly as possible. The car is currently registered here in California. Thanks for your consideration!

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept
Mon, 14 Jan 2013As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.
VW outsells GM in China for first time in 8 years
Fri, 26 Oct 2012In case you didn't know, Volkswagen is hell-bent on becoming the largest automaker in the world. The German carmaker has inched closer to that goal, having outsold General Motors in China last quarter for the first time in eight years.
Volkswagen's sales in China, its largest marker, increased by 21 percent last quarter to 704,991 units. Those numbers almost tripled GM's third-quarter growth, and were enough to beat out the American automaker's 664,765 sales. GM, however, still leads in year-to-date sales in China by a slim margin of around 77,000 units. The Asian nation also happens to be GM's largest market, and according to the report in Automotive News, China's car market may grow to be larger than the US, Japan and Germany combined in three years' time.
About the news his company was bested in China by VW last quarter, GM CEO Dan Akerson is quoted saying, "It's not whether you're the biggest car manufacturer. It's whether you want to be the most profitable." It should be noted of these figures that GM includes truck figures, yet excludes Hong Kong and Macau from its Chinese sales numbers, while VW does just the opposite. Through September of this year, Volkswagen had 5 of the 10 best selling vehicles in China. GM boasted three of the cars on that list.
Top 10 small cars with the longest total driving range
Thu, Mar 19 2015Editor's Note: Since this article was originally posted in the spring of 2015, much has changed in the automotive landscape, especially among those shopping for small car economy. With thanks to Volkswagen for their blatant cheating – and subsequent cover-up – on diesel emissions, the largest player in the diesel passenger car segment isn't playing – they're paying; billions are going for both car buybacks and federally-imposed penalties. And for a few VW execs there exists the very real possibility of jail. With the absence of a big player and the abrupt entrance – via Chevy's new Bolt – of an affordable EV with 200+ miles of range, we've limited the diesel listings to Jaguar's new XE. And for those wanting an updated look at efficiency and range, Autoblog has it – or the EPA has it. Long before electric vehicles were part of the mainstream conversation, car lovers and skinflints alike would boast about the total range of their vehicles. There's something about getting farther down the road on one tank of gas that inflames the competitive spirit, almost as much as horsepower output or top speed. Of course, the vehicles with the very best range on today's market are almost all big trucks and SUVs; virtually all have the ability to carry massive reserves of fuel. Top up a standard Chevy Suburban and you can expect to travel almost 700 miles (you'll need to stop before the Suburban stops...), while a diesel-fed Jeep Grand Cherokee manages almost as many. But what about vehicles that are smaller? The EPA has, essentially, three classifications for 'small' vehicles: Minicompact, Subcompact and Compact. All three are measured based on interior volume, meaning that some cars with rather large exterior dimensions and engines slot in next to traditional small cars. But even though impressive GT coupes from Porsche, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz may have much larger gas tanks to feed their powerful engines, that capacity is offset by higher rates of consumption... in most cases. We used the EPA's Fuel Economy Guide for model year 2017 cars as a start, calculating the official highway miles per gallon rating with each vehicle's tank capacity. The resulting numbers aren't necessarily real world, but they do offer a spectrum for total theoretical range. The eventual top ten surprised me on a few occasions, and comprised quite a varied list of vehicles. 10.
