1973 Karmann Ghia Convertible 356 Porsche Engine on 2040-cars
Chula Vista, California, United States
For sale is my much loved 1973 Karmann Ghia Convertible. This is a drop dead beautiful driver that draws a small crowd whenever I drive it. It is best considered a resto/custom, in that although it looks close to stock it is not. The engine is from a Porsche 356B, engine number P607670. This is a good running engine with a value of about 8.5k. The restoration was finished in about 1995 and the car has been garaged stored since. I have put less than 300 miles on it. It was purchased as a incomplete project along with a Ghia coupe which served as a parts donor. The prior owner had rebuilt the floor pan with thicker more stiff metal. The body was put on a rotisserie and donor parts from the coupe were used to replace any rust. Any suspension/brake parts that were not in excellent condition were replaced. The chassis has been slightly lowered and decambered front and rear for better handling and looks. The interior is finished with leather Porsche Sport seats and custom made carpet. Notice the custom speaker pods in the kick panels. The dash, top, top boot cover, seats and other interior parts have been dyed with Sem so that all colors match. The wheels are VW chrome. The exterior paint is Merlot (PPG). The headliner is new. About a week after painting 4-5 small blisters (smaller than dime size) appeared (rf &,lr) which are believed to be reactions with the paint/primer. They have never gotten any worse. Although the paint looks fantastic, it is not perfect. The leather in the seats also looks fantastic, but not perfect. The chrome wheels have some pitting but also look great. The Porsche engine runs very strong and it is pretty loud with the extractor. The tires have OK tread but the rubber is old and they should be replaced for safety. The Zenith carbs have the Porsche pop when cold which may be improved with jetting. This car has clean California Title in hand and is ready for its new owner, hopefully one that will drive it more. A $500 Pay Pal is due at auction close with the balance in cash or cashier's check at delivery. The car can be picked up in Chula Vista (San Diego) CA or I will work with a shipper of the buyer's choice. Any questions can be answered in writing or with a phone call, and if you are in the Southern California area and are so inclined, I am willing to show it to serious eBayers. Selling this is going to break my heart, but we are getting ready to retire and are downsizing everything but the dog!!! This little Ghia is the prettiest girl at the party!! Good luck with your bids!!!!

VW consumer site finally gets configurator tool back
Tue, Mar 10 2015The traditional vehicle configurator is back on the Volkswagen US consumer website, and it works very well. The company now lets visitors create a virtual model to their own specs and then search for a match among dealer inventories, as is the norm from most automakers. Last summer, Volkswagen tried to break the mold with its thoroughly redesigned consumer website in the US. It sported a slick design but made the highly controversial change of removing the configurator. Instead, visitors were narrowing their selection from a searchable database of models already at dealers. While the streamlined approach immediately told users if their desired car was available, the system also largely hid the prices for options and packages. The newly tweaked design retains the previous tablet-oriented layout, but after clicking a model, the site immediately offers "Build Yours." From there, visitors select a trim, and then the vehicle pops up with options to choose things like colors and packages. The whole layout is clean, features large buttons and works quickly. At the summary page, there's still the opportunity to search for the user's choice in dealer inventories. This is definitely a major improvement.
VW confirms new TDI for second half of 2014 in Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle
Tue, 18 Mar 2014Diesel lovers rejoice. Volkswagen is bringing the latest iteration of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine - dubbed the EA288 - to the 2015 model year Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle (2013 model pictured above) and Beetle Convertible, and the cars will be on sale in the second half of 2014.
While it shares its moniker with the old diesel, the new engine produces 150 horsepower, a 10-hp boost, and 236 pound-feet of torque. VW promises improved fuel economy as well, but it hasn't announced specifically what amount yet. The company claims that despite the same displacement, only the bore spacing is shared with the previous version. The mill includes new features like exhaust gas recirculation, an intercooler integrated into the intake manifold and low-friction camshaft bearings.
VW Group of America has had great success with diesels in the US recently. Vee-Dub and Audi sold 105,899 diesel-equipped models in 2013. It was the first time the group ever sold over 100,000 diesels in a year, and they accounted for 24 percent of sales. Scroll down to read the full press release about the announcement.
Volkswagen names Piech's nieces to supervisory board
Thu, Apr 30 2015Volkswagen was left with two vacancies on its supervisory board after Ferdinand Piech and his wife Ursula were forced out a few days ago, and now it's filled them. Intriguingly, however, both of the new directors are Piech's nieces. The most obvious connection is Julia Kuhn-Piech, a real-estate professional who has sat on the board of VW's Man truck subsidiary since last year. Kuhn-Piech, 34, is the daughter of Ferdinand's younger brother Hans-Michel Piech (and by extension, niece of the ousted chairman). The other seat is being filled by Dr. Louise Kiesling, 57, a designer and daughter of Ferdinand's late older sister Louise Daxer-Piech. Keeping track of the lineage of the Porsche-Piech clan can be confusing, particularly with so many Ferdinands and Louises, but it breaks down essentially as follows: All are descended from Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the eponymous automaker and credited as the designer of the original Volkswagen Beetle. Porsche had a son and a daughter, the latter being Louise Porsche, who married Anton Piech and had four children: Ernst, Louise (mother of incoming board member Louise Kiesling), Ferdinand (the ousted chairman) and Hans Michel, father of the other incoming board member Julia Kuhn-Piech and a board member of both the Volkswagen Group and Porsche SE as well. The Piech and Porsche families control Porsche SE, which holds 50.7 percent of shares in the Volkswagen Group, which in turn owns Porsche the automaker. With all that in mind, appointing other members of the Piech-Porsche clan to the board follows logically enough - particularly since other members of the family helped oust Ferdinand from the chairmanship in the first place. The nominations, incidentally, also help VW increase its proportion of female board members. The two incoming Piechs will join Annika Falkengren of Swedish bank SEB and Babette Frohlich of the same IG Metall union as the board's interim chairman Berthold Huber. Wolfsburg, 30 April 2015 Dr. Louise Kiesling and Ms. Julia Kuhn-Piech appointed new members of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG Upon application by the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Dr. Louise Kiesling and Ms. Julia Kuhn-Piech were today appointed members of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG by Braunschweig Local Court with immediate effect. The appointments were made pursuant to Section 104 of the Aktiengesetz (German Stock Corporation Act) and were occasioned by the recent resignations of Prof. Ferdinand K.
