Volkswagen Jetta 2006 1.9l Tdi Diesel -package 2 - Spice Red on 2040-cars
Huntsville, Alabama, United States
The 2006 VW Jetta 1.9L TDI Engine was the last of the "dirty diesels". I have burned only Highway diesel in this car, but since the Government was so nice to remove the Sulfer from Diesel Fuel, which was used as a lubricant by the engine, I have had to add a supplement with my purchased diesel fuel. I have used FPPF many times, but on a regular basis, I use good ole Marvel Mystery Oil that can be purchased at your local Walmart.
This is a very unusual 2006 Jetta. I am the second owner and I purchased it from a nice couple from Alaska that had moved to near Waco, TX, which is where I took title to this car. This car is actually a 2007 Body and the manual is a 2007 Manual, except for the fact it had to be Titled as a 2006 because of emissions problems with this specific engine. The frame of the car, I am told by my mechanic, is a 2005 VW Passat frame. This became important when I replaced the clutch around 110K miles and we both found out this fact. Again, the car has been meticulously maintained. All fluids were completely changed out at 135K miles and this was done at the 70K point also. Yes, you will be riding around in a freshly changed timing belt also. The Oil and Fuel Filters were changed as recently as 165K. This car has the Wolf's Burg suspension under the car, which is according to my mechanic is the racing type suspension. It was completely replaced around 135K also. I forget how many miles are on the tires, but they have plenty of tread life left in them. The car is equipped with a Manual (5 Speed) Transmission, is a Package 2 Car which means it has every available option for this model year with exception of Navigation. It is Spice Red and I have had many compliments on this car and the color; it draws a lot of attention. Your mileage will vary with how you drive the car. I have gotten as high as 48.2 miles per gallon, and as low as 42. There have been no major modifications to this car; there is some aftermarket stuff that will improve the mileage, but I will leave that up to you. I believed in the German Engineering that this was the best that VW could do at the time. This is a great car that gets better than average diesel mileage. It has a driving range of 650+ miles, so you will be passing a lot of gas stations on your way to wherever. Why as I selling this fine car? I have purchased a larger car, 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid, that will beat the statistics in this ad. 50 City and 45 Highway with a 700 mile range is hard to beat in a mid-sized car. I just do not need two cars! I live in the Huntsville, AL area. Local pick-ups encouraged. I would be happy to met the winning bidder half-way of the journey, as long as they have cash or certified funds in hand to purchase the car. I always enjoy an adventure! |

VW invests in QuantumScape for potentially fireproof, long-range EV batteries
Mon, Dec 8 2014VW might be getting ready to push its plug-in technology in a big way thanks to an investment in the battery startup QuantumScape. Key point: the solid-state battery is said to be fireproof and will offer tremendous range advantages. Details are not abundant yet, but according to Bloomberg, VW of America bought a five-percent stake in QuantumScape (and has an option to raise its holding). The tech could "more than triple" the EV range of VW, Porsche and Audi plug-in vehicles as soon as the middle of 2015, according to unnamed sources that Bloomberg talked to. Former Stanford University researchers started QuantumScape in 2010. The bare-bones QuantumScape website (there's nothing there other than some contact information) doesn't offer many hints about what's happening at the company, but GigaOM's Katie Fehrenbacher notes that QuantumScape is licensing tech from the "All Electron Battery" project at Stanford a few years ago. It certainly sounds amazing: [It's] a completely new class of electrical energy storage devices for electric vehicles that has the potential to provide ultra-high energy and power densities, while enabling extremely high cycle life. The All-Electron Battery stores energy by moving electrons, rather than ions, and uses electron/hole redox instead of capacitive polarization of a double-layer. ... If successful, this project will develop a completely new paradigm in energy storage for electrified vehicles that could revolutionize the electric vehicle industry. If that's what's coming in a future e-Golf or E-Tron, sign us up.
United States drivers buying fewer Mexican-made cars
Tue, May 10 2016Crossovers and pickup trucks are not only growing in market share, they're also more profitable than cars. A crossover on the same platform as a sedan retails for thousands more, despite similar components. It's one of the reasons we've seen automakers rapidly shifting production of their sedans and hatchbacks to Mexico, where cheap labor preserves the thin profit margins on these inexpensive vehicles. But as the market continues to shift in the United States, Mexico is getting burned by its lack of product diversity. The country's auto exports, which are heavy on cars, suffered a 16-percent drop last month, Automotive News reports. In total, year-over-year exports fell from 233,515 to 197,020 last month, while year-to-date exports are down by 7.4 percent, from 922,029 to 854,118. The number one culprit? America – which usually accounts for 75 percent of Mexico's exports – and its appetite for crossovers and pickup trucks bolstered by cheap gas prices. While Mexico does build some light truck models – AN specifically calls out the Ram 2500, Honda HR-V, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tacoma as export leaders – the vast majority of vehicles rolling out of its factories are sedans and hatchbacks. In fact, the three biggest drops in Mexican exports came from companies whose south of the border factories only build cars – Ford (Fusion/Lincoln MKZ and Fiesta), Mazda (Mazda3), and Volkswagen (Golf and Jetta). Mexican Automotive Industry Association President Eduardo Solis told AN the export shortfall will likely be sorted out sooner rather than later, thanks to a pair of new factories – a Kia car factory and an Audi SUV plant – that are coming online by year's end. The two facilities will add around 100,000 vehicles to the country's export totals, which Solis said should leave the industry on the verge of breaking another export record in 2016. But how sustainable will these record-breaking years be? Slapping an "Hecho en Mexico" sticker on a new German SUV won't be enough to change the fact that Mexico's product mix is tilted too heavily towards body styles that are not growing in volume. Mexico's record-breaking export years probably aren't at an end, but we'd argue they're certainly under threat. VW recalling 2.64M vehicles worldwide over engine, light issues
Thu, 14 Nov 2013Volkswagen is staging a massive, worldwide recall that's already grown from 1.68 million to 2.64 million vehicles and covers three different issues across a number of vehicles. We already reported on 61,000 Tiguans getting recalled over lighting issues - that was just in the US. Globally, however, VW will be recalling 800,000 Tiguans, according to Automotive News, with the focus on CUVs built between 2008 and 2011. The issue with the Tiguan relates to a simple fuse swap, so this is rather unremarkable, aside from the sheer number of vehicles being fixed. The real, troubling issues relate to gearboxes and pickups.
239,000 Amarok pickups (pictured right) are being recalled over fuel leaks, while 1.6 million vehicles are being recalled to swap the synthetic oil in dual-clutch transmissions with mineral oil. Now, the transmission issue is one for the global Volkswagen Group to address, not just the VW brand - vehicles from Audi, Škoda and Seat use the same seven-speed DSG and are covered under the recall, as well.
Why the switch from synthetic to mineral oil? Apparently, using the synthetic oil in a DSG and then subjecting it to stop-and-go conditions or heavy loads in a hot and humid climate can lead to electronic malfunctions, according to a Volkswagen press release. The switch, from the sounds of it, is largely a preventative measure.
