After 3+ years in the family we are selling our 2002 ALH Jetta. This car is not a "normal" used car. The body and interior are the nicest you will find for a 2002 with 146k miles. Not one door ding or dent. No curb rash on any of the rims. The previous owner modified it significantly, in some respects he made it into a show car. Since buying it I raised the suspension back towards normal, put on less aggressive rims, replaced the alternator, battery and injection (fuel) pump all in the past year. I have personally changed the oil with Rotella T6 every 5k miles since buying the car at 110k miles. A partial list of modifications is as follows:
1. Complete GLI interior, no rips/tears in any of the seats front or rear.
2. Injectors, DG race pipe, Omni downpipe, Upsolute chip, VR6 clutch, KYB adjustable Shocks/Struts, Eibachs, Drilled/slotted rotors front and rear, 0.681 5th gear, Ventectomy.
3. Shiny bits including trunk plate, trunk struts, hood strut, dead pedal, other pedals, shifter.
4. Windows have mild tint, I have never been pulled over for a tint issue or had it mentioned in 35k miles of driving.
5. This car is making about 145hp/270tq, vs. stock of 90hp/155tq. It will lay rubber in 1st and 2nd if you floor it.
Other recent maintenance includes:
1. Clutch at 113k
2. Brakes (pads and rotors) at 110k
3. Rear bumper repainted due to backing into my wife's car in the driveway one day at 140k
4. Front air dam replaced due to car being too low before at 135k
5. Radio antennae replaced due to age and cracking rubber
6. Transmission oil replaced at 130k
And then of course there is the bad news. It does have 146k miles, it is 11 years old. 3rd and 4th gears are kind of notchy, but all gears work with no grinding. The suspension squeaks a bit. If the state where you live aggressively tests/checks 2002 diesels for emissions, it will fail due to EGR system being removed. It passed inspection and had a sticker the whole time we were in Tennessee and Louisiana. It has a constant check engine light because of all the modifications.
Ultimately this is a car for VW lovers or lover's of modified cars. My wife drove it as a commuter car for a year and eventually decided that it was too intense for her liking. Now she's driving a bone stock Acura TL and is happy as a clam. It really does get 50mpg at 70mph and better than that at 50-60mph. Around town we generally got about 44mpg. My personal record was 821 miles on 16.4 gallons of gas. I do respond to questions, so please ask. I will not end the auction early for a lowball offer.

Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies
Thu, 28 Mar 2013America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.
Matthias Muller officially named VW Group CEO
Fri, Sep 25 2015While the vast number of rumors made it seem like a foregone conclusion, Porsche boss Matthias Muller has officially been named Volkswagen Group CEO to replace the recently resigned Martin Winterkorn. His contract runs through the end of February 2020, and until a replacement is found, Muller also gets to hang onto his old job as chairman of Porsche. At the same time, the VW Group Supervisory Board is announcing a massive structural reorganization across the entire company, with the new management model in place by the beginning of 2016. Contrary to previous rumors, Michael Horn remains as President and CEO of VW Group of America. The board wants a greater emphasis on brands and regions going forward, and the scale of this shift can be seen in the US. On November 1, VW Group business in the US, Mexico, and Canada is being combined under the leadership of current Skoda chairman Winfried Vahland. However contrary to previous rumors, Michael Horn remains as President and CEO of VW Group of America. Other brands are also seeing some significant changes mechanically. Porsche, Bentley, and Bugatti now fall under the Group's "sportscar and mid-engine toolkit." This means that the brands will start sharing standardized technical parts. A Chief Technical Officer across all of the company's brands will also start working toward future innovations. The new brand-centric view means the end of a group-wide production department. "Going forward, the brands and regions will also have greater independence with regard to production. So it follows that they should also hold the responsibility for these activities," Berthold Huber, interim Chairman of the Supervisory Board, said in the announcement. In a statement with the press release about his promotion, Muller promised to turn the company around after such an international crisis. He said: "My most urgent task is to win back trust for the Volkswagen Group – by leaving no stone unturned and with maximum transparency, as well as drawing the right conclusions from the current situation. Under my leadership, Volkswagen will do everything it can to develop and implement the most stringent compliance and governance standards in our industry." Matthias Muller appointed CEO of the Volkswagen Group Muller remains Chairman of Porsche AG until a successor has been found Matthias Muller (62) has been appointed CEO of Volkswagen AG with immediate effect.
Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy
Wed, 24 Jul 2013J.D. Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.
