VW may make Bentley a subsidiary of Audi
Sun, Oct 25 2020FRANKFURT — Volkswagen plans to make British luxury carmaker Bentley a subsidiary of its Audi division as it seeks economies of scale among its top-end brands, German trade publication Automobilwoche reported. Bentley, for now overseen by the head of VW's Porsche business, Oliver Blume, will from next year be part of Audi, where VW group Chief Executive Herbert Diess believes it has more potential, Automobilwoche cited company sources as saying. Synergies could include using Audi technology for a new Bentley SUV, it added. Volkswagen, which declined to comment on the report, is reviewing the future of its high-performance brands Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati motorcycles as part of broader quest for more economies of scale as it shifts to mass producing electric cars. Volkswagen throws a Polo-palooza with four new or upgraded models
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen unveiled a parade of new and upgraded Polo models at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo (pictured above). While they will likely never make an appearance this side of the pond, it is fun to see what European subcompact drivers will be driving later this year.
The new BlueMotion models represent the most efficient petrol and diesel options in their class, according to VW. The BlueMotion TDI offers just 73 horsepower from its diesel engine but gives the equivalent of 76 miles per gallon (US) in the EU test. The BlueMotion TSI brings a little more power with its 88-hp petrol engine and has a combined rating of 57 mpg (US) in the EU cycle.
The Polo BlueGT provides a balance of performance and economy, and for the 2014 model, it gains a 9-horsepower boost to its 1.4-liter turbocharged to give drivers 147 hp at the press of the accelerator. This year's car also has an optional Sport Select suspension with electronically controlled dampers to improve handling a bit. It's still fitted with active cylinder management to use as little gas as possible when cruising.

Sun, Jan 11 2015Not long after Thanksgiving, surveillance cameras caught four boys in Arizona throwing rocks through the windows of a 1969 Volkswagen bus belonging to an elderly woman called Ann. A few nights later they returned to the scene of the first crime and repeated it, smashing windows they missed before. Ann had no other car and no way to make a living, but when Jesus Aguilera – a member of the Arizona Bus Club – came across the incident on a Facebook page, he got to work. When he was finished, the AZ Bus Club and the Tucson Mob Squad had donated thousands of dollars to pay for new glass and get it installed, and now Ann has a magic bus she can drive again.
