2004 Volkswagen Jetta - Manual Transmission - Good Deal! on 2040-cars

Lansing, Michigan, United States

I bought this car when I was in grad school out in Tucson, so it's got pretty heavy tint in the windows.  It already had an aftermarket CD player installed with an auxiliary jack that's pretty nice for playing music through your phone.  The sun/moon roof is also in good shape and is great for Michigan days where it's not quite hot out, but you just want a little fresh air and sunshine in your car!

As I mentioned, this car does have some issues.  I got a new job and have had this car for a while, so I'm looking for something new.  It also doesn't hurt that I don't like the VW dealership here and refuse to give them any more of my business.  The timing belt and turbo have been replaced, as well as the water pump (they usually tell you to replace it at the same time as the timing belt).  Lately the power steering has been a little bit growly.  It smooths right out when you add some power steering fluid, but like I said, I'm not giving my dealership another dime to fix whatever leak there might be.  If I was planning to keep the car for another year, I'd probably get it fixed.  The ABS has been out for a while.  The brakes still work fine, and I honestly haven't really noticed any difference.  I've been using this car as my daily driver since I bought it, and it's been a lot of fun.  That being said, it has a number of little scrapes and scuffs around the body.  There's damage to the rear passenger wheel well.

It's tough to find a stick shift these days, so this would be a great car if you want to learn!  It shifts very easily, and the turbo offers some nice pick up when you really want to move.  I don't know what else I'm supposed to say...happy bidding!  Keep in mind that the car probably needs some repairs.  Seems to run fine for me, though.  There's a low reserve in case the auction doesn't meet what I was offered for a trade-in on a new vehicle.  Good Luck!  Bid Early!  Bid Often!

This vehicle is being relisted because the previous winning bidder had issues with the terms of the auction.  Please review the item condition, description, and payment terms.  If you have any questions or concerns, I would be more than happy to address them before the end of the auction.  Finally, bid what you feel the car is worth - this is an auction, not a classified ad!

Weekly Recap: Volkswagen moves forward under Muller

Sat, Sep 26 2015

Most stunning was the speed of it all. On the morning of September 18, Volkswagen AG stood atop the automotive world. It was profitable and sold more cars than Toyota and General Motors, its two main rivals for global supremacy. By nightfall, the company would be embroiled in scandal. Revelations the German auto giant cheated on diesel emissions testing in the United States reverberated from Washington to Wolfsburg, Germany. What started out as a problem with 482,000 VWs and Audis in the US exploded into an international scandal. Millions of vehicles have the rigged software, meaning VW broke environmental rules as its cars spewed pollutants all over the world. The fallout began immediately. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn – one of the most respected and capable executives in the business – apologized on Sunday and Tuesday. On Wednesday he resigned. As the week progressed, the company's stock took a beating and credit agencies threatened to drop their ratings. VW dealers and owners said they felt betrayed. The automaker hired a law firm that defended BP after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The EPA is already extending its testing procedures to look for "defeat devices" like the ones used by Volkswagen. On Friday the company announced a major restructuring. Matthias Muller, Porsche's chief for the last five years, took over as CEO of Volkswagen and is charged with picking up the pieces of a shattered company facing regulatory action and lawsuits. With GM, Toyota, and Takata scandals still fresh, Volkswagen will likely experience unprecedented levels of scrutiny. Additionally, VW's markets in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be combined into a North American region under the leadership of former Skoda boss Winfried Vahland, though US chief executive Michael Horn will stay on. The company is also realigning its brands by specialty and streamlining its board. Firings, government action, restructurings, and international outrage – things that usually build up over months or years – all occurred in about a week. With dizzying speed, Volkswagen's future has changed dramatically. It all happened, it's still happening, so fast. 2014 VW Golf brings storied hatchback's seventh generation to US

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf in US-specification officially debuts at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The new model is the first VW in the States to ride on the company's MQB architecture, and as such, it makes use of plenty of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel to keep weight down. All told, the new shell is 51 pounds lighter than the outgoing generation, despite the fact that the finished car is a full 2.2 inches longer and .5 inches wider than the 2013 model.
Buyers can expect to find a base model powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (blue car above) with 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That means the powerplant delivers the same horsepower as the old naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder while weighing less and producing seven extra pound-feet of torque. TDI (silver car above) buyers, meanwhile, will enjoy a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder mill. VW says the engine yields 10 more horsepower than the old lump, which means the Golf TDI now boasts 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.
GTI (red car above) buyers will now get their hands on a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with approximately 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque - Volkswagen hasn't finalized power numbers for that machine. We're happy to see that the GTI still features its trademark plaid seats. Volkswagen says the new Golf and GTI will go on sale as a 2015 model, but doesn't say when the car will actually hit dealerships.
