2003 Vw Volkswagen Jetta Gls 1.8t Tiptronic Automatic on 2040-cars
Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, United States
Upgraded to a newer car, so the old daily driver is for sale.
Car is a 2003 Jetta GLS 1.8T with Sport Package -135,000 miles -Platinum Gray -5 Speed Automatic with Tiptronic -Heated Seats -Black Cloth Interior -Sunroof/Moonroof -Monsoon Stereo -Owners Manual as well as all 3 keys in hand -Monster Mats (rubber) as well as cloth mats included I have installed a couple of cosmetic items which include: -Smoked GLI tail lamps -Smoked front side markers and turn signals -GTI 3 spoke steering wheel -Steering column mounted boost gauge (see pictures) Timing belt was done at 113,000 miles. At that time, water pump, cam seals, crank seal, valve cover gasket, and cam adjuster seals were all replaced. The engine does not leak a drop of oil. Car will come with stock 17 inch wheels with summer tires on them, as well as a set of 15 inch snow tires on separate wheels, obviously. The snows are currently on the car, have very few miles on them, and are virtually brand new. (See pictures) Summer tires are Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric (225/45/17) with about 60-70% tread remaining. Snows are General Altimax Arctic (195/65/15). Car has GIAC software which was done locally by AWE tuning. Software has only been in the car for a few months. Receipt is in the car, as well as the hand held program switcher. You can switch it back to the stock tune if you want to for some reason. Car will come with a fresh PA state inspection, good til 12/2014 Some other items worth noting: -Burns a minimal amount of oil. Been using Mobil 1 0w/40 and Mann filters and car only uses about 1/2 quart between 5000 oil changes. High oil consumption is common with neglected 1.8T's, but this is not one of them. -All transmission solenoids were replaced about a year ago. This is a common 5 speed automatic 09A issue. Can cause delayed engagement of drive and or reverse, as well as a number of no or harsh shift issues while you are driving. All solenoids were replaced (I think there are 9 total) and the fluid was changed at the same time using factory VW fluid. Transmission works great, with no issues. -I replaced the driver's seat bottom foam and upholstery (which includes the seat heater element) a few years ago. That means the upholstery on the driver's seat is in excellent condition with no rips, tears or other damage, which is also common with these cars. Seat heater also works great. The only issues with the car are a minor leak from the passenger side axle seal, and some cosmetic damage to the car. The worst of the damage is a minor scrape on the right rear wheel arch area, and some deeper scratches on the rear bumper. Take a look at the pictures, nothing major here. Car has been well cared for and hopefully will find a great new home. Again, only reason for selling is that I purchased a newer Jetta Sportwagen because I needed the additional room for hauling stuff. Not trying to hide anything. If you have any questions, just ask. If you want to make arrangements to come and take a look at the car, please don't wait until the last minute before doing to. I will do what I can to help. I am also willing to help with pickup of the car if you need it, as in picking you up as long as it is a reasonable distance. I will not deliver the car to your doorstep. Ask me and we can figure something out. Buyer is responsible for fees associated with transfer of the car into your name, which includes anything like title and registration fees. |

Volkswagen Golf Variant Concept R-Line puts the sport in SportWagen
Wed, 06 Mar 2013With the introduction of the newest Volkswagen Golf Variant, we get an early look at what will most likely be the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here in the US. To further wet our appetities, VW is now teasing something a little sportier with the Concept R-Line. Looking the part of a GTI wagon (or a stretched Golf R), the Golf Variant Concept R-Line has a production-ready appearance that has us hoping we'll see this sporty wagon sooner rather than later.
The R-Line starts off with a new fascia that isn't quite as aggressive as the recently introduced GTI, but it gives the new styling some extra punch. Below the fascia is a lower splitter that visually carries back into the rocker panel extensions, and the rear of the car gets some bright exhaust tips and a rear diffuser. The Lapis Blue Metallic paint job probably does enough on its own to add a sporty flair to the Golf wagon, and it's all finished off with 18-inch split-spoke wheels. Inside, the Concept R-Line shows off sport seats wrapped in carbon leather featuring blue nappa inserts in the middle.
Rightfully so, VW brought the Concept R-Line to Geneva with its TDI and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. A sporty, all-wheel-drive diesel wagon? Yes, please. Scroll down for the full press blast with all the details.
Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva
Thu, 21 Feb 2013After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
Automakers face reality of EVs' cost — to jobs, and their bottom line
Tue, Sep 12 2017Related: We obsessively covered the Frankfurt Motor Show — here's our complete coverage FRANKFURT, Germany — European car bosses gathering for the Frankfurt auto show are beginning to address the realities of mass vehicle electrification, and its consequences for jobs and profit, their minds focused by government pledges to outlaw the combustion engine. As the latest such announcement by China added momentum to a push for zero-emissions motoring, Daimler, Volkswagen and PSA Group gave details about their electric programs that could give policymakers some pause. Planned electric Mercedes models will initially be just half as profitable as conventional alternatives, Daimler warned — forcing the group to find savings by outsourcing more component manufacturing, which may in turn threaten German jobs. "In-house production is almost irrelevant to the consumer," Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche told reporters on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show, in the midst of a German election campaign in which automotive jobs have loomed large. The company set a target of saving 4 billion euros ($4.8 billion) by 2025 to help fund the cost of its electric cars. "Daimler is the first company to state explicitly how much electric vehicles are going to hurt margins," said Bernstein analyst Max Warburton. "It was brave to go first — but of course it won't be the last." Volkswagen, for its part, said it was seeking new global supplier contracts to source 50 billion euros ($60 billion) of electric car content including batteries, which are not yet manufactured competitively in Europe. "A company like Volkswagen must lead, not follow," Chief Executive Matthias Mueller told reporters. VW diesel emissions-cheating exposed by U.S. regulators in 2015 triggered global public outrage, dozens more investigations into test-rigging by the wider industry and a push by some lawmakers to ban diesel and eventually all engines. TIGHTENING NOOSE Tesla shares jumped nearly 6 percent on Monday after a Chinese minister said it was a question of when, not if, Beijing bans fossil-fuel cars, tightening the noose around the combustion engine. France and Britain have promised its outright abolition by 2040. But PSA, the maker of Peugeots and Citroens, said it was concerned about the risks if consumers were left behind in the rush, and a new generation of battery cars does not sell.
