::  1999 Volkswagen Jetta GL (new body style) ::

Over 30 pictures for you to review below

Purchased new in 1999. Driven almost exclusively by my wife in NY and NJ.  Has been stored outside over the last 12 months with a battery tender to keep it charged.  Run it once a week for a half hour or so to keep things working. Drives and runs, has good pep!

The check engine light just came on when I took it out to take these images.  No idea what it indicates.

Please review the photos carefully.  As you can see, the clear coat is peeling in several places, roof, trunk, hood, etc.  The car will likely need new tires soon and possibly a battery.  There's a spider crack in the windshield on the passenger side (pictured).

The cup holder is broken and missing ( a common problem on these Jettas). The hinge on the right side of the glove box is also broken.  There are dents and dings and metal creases on many of the body panels: See photos below. Photos are part of the description so please review them all.

The vehicle has never been wrecked or been in a fender bender.

A/C blows strong and cold.

The remote trunk release will sometimes open when the car is started, but the trunk does not open as a result, just unlocks. Headlights probably should be replaced due to hazing. Regular oil changes were made.

This car has over 173,000 miles and as such, it has the expected wear and tear of a vehicle with this kind of mileage.

I am not a mechanic, and I'm doing my best to disclose issues with this vehicle, but I would urge any buyer or potential buyer to have their mechanic go through this vehicle. Pre-inspections are welcome but are the responsibility of any potential buyer. It did pass its most recent NJ state inspection, about a year ago.

Vehicle is sold "as-is" and without warranty. Car comes with one master key.

I've made every effort to present information that is accurate. However, it is based on data provided by the vehicle VIN decoding and/or other sources and therefore exact configuration, color, specifications & accessories should be used as a guide only and are not guaranteed. Price does not include taxes, registration fees, finance and/or documentation charges, transportation or shipping fees. To ensure your complete satisfaction, please verify accuracy prior to purchase.  Buyer is responsible for arranging shipping and/or pickup.  I can coordinate with your chosen shipper.  Vehicle must be picked up within 10 days of sale closing.  No exceptions.  A non-refundable $500 deposit is due within 72 hours of winning bid.  This to be paid via Paypal.  Balance in certified funds prior to pickup.

Successful "winning" bidder must contact me within 24 hours after the auction has ended to verify purchase and make arrangements to complete the transaction. Within (3) business days of the end of auction, full payment must be received either by cashiers-check, approved bank draft, or certified funds. If funds are not received, and an alternate arrangement has not been made, the vehicle can and will be made available to other potential buyers on a first-come, first-serve basis

We reserve the right to cancel bids and/or our auction at anytime for any reason.  Car is also listed locally and may be removed from ebay at any time.

Please carefully review the pictures below and feel free to use the contact buyer link to ask any questions. Good luck and best wishes!

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover

Sat, Jan 18 2014

It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party. Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe is a green fun-machine we want to drive

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Think back to January's Detroit Auto Show. Those of you that are fans of the Volkswagen brand, impressed with green technology or simply fall into the "diesel geek" category, will almost certainly remember VW's CrossBlue concept with its diesel/electric hybrid powertrain, seating for seven, and somewhat awkward crossover styling. It was an impressive piece of future tech, to be sure, though it left something to be desired in the, well, desirability department.
Here in Shanghai, VW has brought along a CrossBlue Coupe concept that would seem to include most of the goodness of the original, but flavored with more sport and style this time around.
The CrossBlue Coupe makes use of the same electric drive components as the larger three-row concept: two electric motors (front and rear) powered by a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. However, where the original concept made use of a TDI four-cylinder, the Coupe substitutes a 295-horsepower, direct-injection, gasoline-burning V6.

Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes also under diesel emissions scrutiny

Sat, Oct 10 2015

The controversy over Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal isn't limited to the US. In Europe, where diesel engines are far more popular, the issue is shining a harsh light on the NEDC emissions test. As already known, the evaluation does a poor job of reflecting real-world production of NOx, and it appears a significant number of automakers are affected. The Guardian in the UK has been reporting on real-world test results from a company called Emissions Analytics. After the latest round of checks, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi were found to generate far more NOx than they should. The newspaper also published similar results for Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Citroen, VW, and Audi. On average, the figures are about four times over the limit of producing the pollutant. Unlike VW and its defeat device, these automakers aren't actually breaking the rules. The vehicles perform up to the NEDC lab test for emissions, but those results simply aren't translated to the street. "The VW issue in the US was purely the trigger which threw light on a slightly different problem in the EU - widespread legal over-emissions," Nick Molden from Emissions Analytics said to The Guardian. A big fight to decide the future of this issue appears to be on the horizon. Automakers claim that they can't meet the next round of tightening emissions regulations and are asking for compromises. Although, spokespeople for Mercedes and Honda told The Guardian that the brands would be in favor of the stricter rules. Meanwhile, some European governments began backtracking their support of diesels well before this scandal came to light. The added scrutiny certain hasn't helped the future of the oil-burner.
