What i have for sale is my 1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. This thing is the definition of a work car.  It does run and drive, but there is alot wrong with it, I will leave a honest description on it, to keep the suprises to a minimal.  I did some trading in march and obtained this vehicle for a job i knew was coming up , which happenned to be 90 miles away from home one way.  I made the trade, changed the oil in the car, changed the fuel filter, put some new tie rod ends on, new front brake rotors and pads.  I drove it 4 to 5 days a week , 180 mile round trip a day  for 3 months . It only let me down one time.  The pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold and goes to the EGR Cooler broke clean off, flooding the cab with smoke when i accelerated.  So i had it towed home. I ended up removing the EGR cooler, and plug welding the two flanges , the one right off of the exhaust manifold, and the one that the EGR cooler went to on the intake side.  It didnt seem to affect anything as far as mpg or performance goes. I averaged anywhere between 38 and 42 miles a gallon, running about 75 ish on the highway.  The car shifts through all 5 gears, doesnt pop out or anything, clutch doesnt slip, it actually cruises very well at 70 plus.  Anyway, now for the bad....

First off, when you fire the car up, you get a big ole plume of black smoke, pretty cool, my old cummins truck did the same thing.  Its not as noticeable, but it will continue to blow diesel smoke through the rest of the trip. In the pictures the car is just recently washed, but a couple thousand miles from now, the whole back end will be covered in diesel soot.  I always thought it was pretty cool.  The thing leaks oil pretty good, not enough were you have to add any between oil changes, but it does mark its territory everywhere it goes.  There is not a single gauge on the dash that works. No speedo, no odometer, temp, nothing.  So that means that the mileage I stated above is innacurate.  I dont know how long before i got it that the guages went out, so I have absolutely no idea on the mileage.  I figure i probably put 12 to 15000 miles on it since i've had it.  The A/C blows hot air, the drivers door latch on the inside is non existant, so you have to roll the window down and use the outside handle.  I got so used to doing this , that I actually open my door from the outside in my truck now.  The glove box is in the same shape, it does not open.  The previous owner used the trunk to haul transmissions, so it is pretty nasty. But on the good side, there are no signs of rust in the trunk.  The rest of the car however, is getting pretty rusty.  The rockers are gone, theres some small spots here and there, but there is a real nasty spot that you will see in the pictures on the rear passenger door jamb.  Looks like someone tried to repair it a couple years ago, and did not have a clue what they were doing. Honestly I am suprised that the door even stays shut, but it does, and for this reason i keep it locked so i dont have to put any more wear or tear on it. The cruise control does not work . The CD player that is in it , doesnt really fit, i never did put a install kit in it, so its just sitting there, very easy to steal, its nothing special anywhere, but it does have a remote. I am sure I am missing something, but there ya have it.  She runs, she drives, cant guarantee for how much longer, but it saved me a ton of money this summer.  I have since moved on to a different job closer to home, and am looking to get into something a little bigger because i wont be driving so much.  Its kind of hard to get a couple bicycles and fishing poles in the old girl. It is what it is, sold as is where is, you are more than welcome to drive it around the block a couple times.  One thing i would definately recommend, and if you are looking at this, more than likely you are into these things anyway, but i would definately recommend a Timing belt change ASAP, from what I read, they are only good for 60,000 ish miles, and when they go, its game over, I have no idea when the last time it was done.

*** Since I've had it, i've been running Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40 in it (performed 3 oil changes), and I have also been running stanadyne fuel additive at every fill up***
*** Tires are decent for awhile, I have a full size spare, as well as a donut, I also have 4 unmounted Studded snow tires that will be included *****

Shoot me a text or give me a call at 419 707 2971 if you have anymore questions, or you can contact me through ebay or email at mycat8urskidoo@gmail.com

*** With all this fuel money your going to save with this beast, you can definately afford to buy that snowmobile you've always wanted, just happens to be i've got one for sale,. check out my other auctions to see my 01 zr440 sno pro for sale!***
Thanks

Anti-UAW VW workers move to form own union

Sat, 30 Aug 2014

The struggle over unionization at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, continues to get more complicated. There's now a second union fighting to organize at the plant; although this one is staunchly against the actions of the United Auto Workers. At the same time, the UAW is still signing up voluntary members to its recently created Local 42 at the facility and is reportedly near having a majority of the hourly employees on its side.
The new, anti-UAW union campaign is being spearheaded by employee Mike Burton, according to Reuters, and he calls his group the American Council of Employees. He claims to already have 108 signatures in support of his organization. Burton believes that the UAW is harmful to businesses, and his goal is to force another vote to determine a preferred union among workers.
The UAW was initially defeated (712 to 626) when it attempted a union vote at the Tennessee plant in February. However, UAW secretary-treasurer Gary Casteel told Reuters that Local 42 has already signed up over 700 members. If it can reach a majority of the roughly 1,500 employees, the group hopes VW might consider recognizing it as the factory's union.

10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions

Thu, Aug 27 2015

Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.

Regulators consider adding more carmakers to Takata recall

Tue, Sep 29 2015

Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has been getting a lot of press recently, but the Takata airbag inflator affair could be grabbing headlines again soon. According to Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is contemplating an expansion to the campaign that could add seven automakers to the 12 already affected. They are Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and VW Group. To be clear, there's no recall for any of these automakers, yet. The government is simply asking for a full list of vehicles that each of them have with Takata-supplied inflators containing ammonium nitrate propellant. The agency is concerned this substance could play a roll in the ruptures. "NHTSA is considering not only whether to issue an administrative order that would coordinate the remedy programs associated with the current Takata recalls, but also whether such an order should include expansion of the current recalls," the letters say. All seven can be viewed, here. From a report supplied by Takata, the government already knows that the company supplied 887,055 inflators with ammonium-nitrate propellant to VW and 184,926 of them to Tesla. In an incident during the summer, a side airbag allegedly burst in a 2015 VW Tiguan. In early September, NHTSA put out a revised report that there were 23.4 million inflators to be replaced in 19.2 million vehicles in the US. An earlier accounting from the agency had about 34 million of the parts in 30 million cars. High humidity is still believed to be among the biggest risk factors for the ruptures. Although, if ammonium nitrate also gets the blame, some already recalled models might need to be repaired again. Related Video:
